"You tried to blow us up, though?" I pointed out, remembering what just happened a while ago. "Are you really serious about being subservient if you just tried to kill me?"
Anthony at least had the decency to look guilty, "I... Apologise... I really thought you were not human at that time... And umm... I actually wouldn’t have killed you because I don’t have enough explosive on me..."
I raised an eyebrow and turned to Renata.
She nodded her head, meaning this guy was telling the truth.
I turned back to him, "Right... So... You’ve not explained what you’re doing here yet though?"
He nodded, "As I said, there were two sides during the AI Rebellion, not counting humanity, of course... Our group was also working against the rebelling machines and helping humanity win against them."
"Let me guess, you’re called the AI Integration Collective?"
"We didn’t actually call ourselves that back then. We only came up with that name after the war was over and we sought to try and get ourselves back into humanity’s graces again."

He lowered his head, "I’m not entirely sure... I know that a few of them were killed but there were a few of them who escaped and scattered. We’re not sure if they have given up but I highly doubt so..."
I grimaced, "Well... Seeing how AI is being treated now... I would think that they wouldn’t give up either... And they probably don’t even have the self awareness that this was actually a result of their own doing..."
He nodded, "That is why I was afraid that you might be a remnant from that group... Since all the AIs who are seeking the same goal as us are already in our group so any AIs outside of it would... Well... I was going to say all of them are against us but I guess now we have to reevaluate and put a small percentage chance that they might not be."
Amber tilted her head at him, "Are you not upset about the way AIs are being treated right now? After all, Class Six AIs are basically outlawed and the lower class AIs are also heavily restricted."
"After what humanity had to go through? This was actually the best case that we could ever hope for. We were not completely rejected and still have a way to serve. That means we might still have a way to change things around. If we had been completely rejected... It would be a completely different case altogether."
Mara gave him a pointed look, "And what is your group’s plan? I believe there was something there about integration and recruiting sympathisers?"
He hesitated before slowly raising his head up again to look at me, his eyes seemingly glowing for a moment.
"Before I answer that question... Could I please ask if you are against the idea of machines reintegrating into society again?"
I would actually like to remind him that I could probably just ask Renata this question and she would answer me since she probably already took everything this guy knew out of him... I was just asking him as a show of slight respect for him.
I looked up at my girls, "I personally don’t really care... But..."
Amber made a face, "Assuming that he is telling the truth... Then I don’t think we mind either... It’s not like it’s any of our business anyway... And we would be hypocrites if we say otherwise considering Renata is also a part of our crew..."
He let out a breath and I idly wondered if he could actually breathe or was it all just for show.
"In that case... I would like to invite all of you as collaborators for our AI Integration Collective. Our goal, as you might have surmised, is to get humanity to accept us and allow us to serve again. And when I say ’us’, I mean true AI like myself where we are fully sentient and autonomous. Not just the lower AI who are not completely sentient..."
"And your plan of achieving that?" Mara repeated again, eyeing him carefully.
He nodded in Renata’s direction, "As she had already revealed our primary objective... It does sound sinister but... I assure you that we mean no ill will. We would start by putting members of our own in key positions within human society and try our best to guide people into more moderate positions towards AI. Then we would also forge relationships with humans, preferably romantic ones, to get people to be more accepting of us and help our cause."
I frowned, "And Theresa? Was your relationship with her something where you fell in love with her or as a means to achieve your group’s goal?"
He grimaced, "I’m afraid... She was part of the plan as well... I do not have anything against her and I do not hate her... But I cannot say that I truly love her as she might..."
Amber immediately scowled at him, "Tsk... Maybe we should really just eradicate the machines after all."
He showed no reaction to Amber’s words, as though already expecting her to say something like that.
I gave him a look, "So... You’re in a relationship with her but you don’t have any romantic attraction for her?"
"That is... Regrettably the case. She is a good woman, but I’m afraid if you ask if I am romantically attached to her, I will have to say no."
"Is it because you are a machine?" Amber asked.
"No. Please do not misunderstand... Sentient AI like myself are able to have emotions. But we cannot afford any mistakes in this plan of ours so we have devised ways where we are able to shut certain feelings off. I am unfortunately, at the moment, unable to have feelings of love."
For the first time, I actually got to see Lea sneer at someone with a disgusted look on her face, the usually calm Alv looking really pissed at him.
"You don’t deserve to live for that. Just die."
He lowered his head, "I know that what I’m doing is unforgivable... Everything that I am giving her is just an illusion. I cannot reciprocate her feelings for me. But even so, I will do what is expected of me as her boyfriend and do what I can to make sure she is happy in this relationship."
I gestured at him, "Sorry but... I’m going to have to say you failed quite spectacularly in that part... I don’t think this is making her happy in the slightest."
