What Do You Mean I'm The Captain Of A Yandere Mercenary Company?

Chapter 931: Look At Me... My Dogs Now

Chapter 931: Look At Me... My Dogs Now

The girl was standing at the entrance of the cargo bay and staring at the sight of me being surrounded by the dogs with a face full of fear.

Well... The dogs being dogs paid no attention to her and continued running around me and jumping all around while licking my face from time to time to demand attention.

The woman panicked and rushed towards me while shouting, "No! All of you! Stop! Sit!! Get back to your cages!!"

At this point, I guess the dogs finally decided to pay attention to her as she was running towards us.

But instead of obeying, they arranged themselves to form a protective wall and started growling at her with their fangs bared.

She immediately slid to a stop, her eyes looking at the dogs in front of her with fear.

Also... I just want to say that all the dogs here seemed to be breeds of Shepherd dogs including German Shepherds, Collies, Belgian Malinois and even a few Welsh Corgis.

If I had to guess... Her family must be able to control dogs belonging to that category.

I’m also guessing this was the first time that the dogs here have outright turned hostile to her and gave her threatening growls.

She hesitated, taking a step back from them and her body quivered in obvious fear.

"No. Down, girls. Sit," I commanded.

The dogs immediately reacted and sat themselves down, all of them turning their heads to start panting at me with their tongues rolled out.

The girl looked down at the dogs that had sat down obediently, then up at me, then back down at the dogs again before slowly lifting up her gaze once more until she was looking at me again.

"Wha... Wha... What?" Were all the words she could muster from her mouth after witnessing the sight in front of her.

I simply gave her a grin, "Surprise~"

She jerked back and jumped a little as if she actually got startled by something unexpected appearing in front of her.

She needed a moment to recover before she finally managed to speak again.

"What is going on?"

"I freed the dogs."

She blinked, "You... Freed them? From what?"

"From their cages of course. Those things look really uncomfortable so I thought I might as well just let them out for the duration of this trip and let them run around the cargo hold instead of being cooped up in that metal box."

Now she switched to looking at the metal containers, then to me and then alternated between the two for a few times before she stopped and stared at me again.

"You... Wanted them to be comfortable?"

"Yeah. It’s better to let them out than have them sit in that small container."

She looked at me like I had just told her I make love to eldritch beings on a daily basis. Which I do, just saying.

She then turned back to the dogs, her mind finally catching up to what was happening.

"Why... Why are they not mauling you?" She asked, her brows furrowing.

I reached out and gave one of them a pat on the head, which made a few of the dogs move closer and look up at me with an expectant gaze, clearly also hoping to get a headpat of their own as well.

Seeing that, I had no choice but to start patting each of their heads while I continued my conversation with the woman.

"Well... Would you believe me if I told you I am a very talented Biotamer?"

Hey, I’m not technically lying here in a sense.

She looked up at me, "You... Come from a family of Biotamers too? I... I didn’t see a family name on your profile... And I don’t know any family that can control these things to this degree of proficiency..."

I gave her a conspiratory smile, "Let’s just say... I’m on the run and my ability is supposed to be a secret. You understand, right?"

Obviously, I was just bullshitting here but what I did not expect was for her to stare at me before tears started welling up in her eyes and she actually started to cry.

Eh? Ehhhh?! Wait, wait... Are you ok?! Hello?! Why are you crying?!

She sobbed, "You’re... You’re just like me... Aren’t you?"

What? Just like you? Woman I barely even know you?! What are you talking about?

She sobbed, "I... Forgive me... I... I got a little emotional... Please let me start over."

I felt a little bad for her at this point seeing that my little joke made her this emotional so I waited patiently for her to speak.

She gestured at herself, "I’m not sure how familiar you are but... I am Nerissa Eventgarde of the Eventgarde Biotamer family... Are you... Aware of my situation?"

I shook my head slowly, keeping a careful eye on her.

She sniffed, "It’s... Expected I suppose... They wouldn’t want this to be public... My father wanted me to marry someone... Someone I did not want... Just to increase the prestige of our house by trying to make an heir that can control even more different types of those dogs... And he wasn’t happy that I did not want to do that..."

Oh gods... Is this another family drama thing? Why do the nobles always have all this family drama stuff? Can’t you guys just have normal problems like not knowing what to eat for dinner instead?

Like you guys always go one and on about family this and family that and then in reality, all the nobles I meet have absolutely terrible relationships with their own families.

Aside from Vier I guess... Though I think hers is more of just a neutral business relationship kind of thing and there’s not really much familial love in there.

I mean... She literally just decided to up and follow me, someone she quite literally met for less than a few days, to go off flying into space without hesitation.

Pretty sure someone with a good, loving family that they are close to wouldn’t do that.

I let out a sigh and nod at her, "So let me guess... Your father punished you by sending you on this job where you are forced to command dogs out in the Outer Colonies on a hostile planet?"

She nodded, "He thinks that this will make me ’see reason’ and then come back and obey him unquestioningly afterwards..."

"Right... Are you, though?"

She looked up at me with gritted teeth, "Of course not! I’ll do this stupid job, clear out the entire planet of those bugs... Then I’ll live there and start a new life by myself! I don’t need my family to live!"

I thought she would say something like that...

She then took a step towards me, "You’re... You’re the same, aren’t you? You have a family who wanted you to do something you didn’t want... So you ran away... And now you’re here acting as a Mercenary Captain to make ends meet... I understand... I completely understand... You... To think I was looking down on you... When you did what I could not do... How shameful of me..."

She sniffed again and at this point, I wondered whether it would be a better idea to affirm her delusions or just tell her she had been completely mistaken.

I let out a sigh, "Umm... Sorry... I’m afraid that my case isn’t as... Well... Complicated as yours..."

She looked up at me, "What?"

"Err... I’m just... Like I said, apparently I’m just a really talented Biotamer. I’m a commoner and not from any noble families or Biotamer families or whatever. I’m just... Born with this... Although I only figured this out recently myself so... Yeah..."

She blinked at me for a full minute before frowning, "So... You’re not... From any of the Biotamer families?"

I shook my head, "I’m afraid not..."

"So... Why did I tell you my story like I was sharing it to someone who could understand me?"

"Oh, I understand you perfectly. I have friends who have also gone through the same thing as well so I know perfectly well what you’re going through. And... You did just make all the assumptions on your own and decided to spill out everything without me asking you about it..."

She stared at me and her face slowly turned red with embarrassment, which I noted was almost the same shade as her hair which was a little more brownish red.

She looked down at the dogs near me, "Bite her!!"

The dogs just turned to look at her and growled, reminding her that she was not in charge here.

Wait... Ok... Did you really just... That was attempted murder wasn’t it? Because if she had been in control of the dogs, a bite from them wouldn’t just be something that a normal person can walk away from without losing a limb or even their life.

Ok, this changes things. Nerissa, was it? You just earned yourself a ticket for a bad time on board my ship.
