What Do You Mean I'm The Captain Of A Yandere Mercenary Company?

Chapter 964: Another Nest Cleared

Chapter 964: Another Nest Cleared

I lifted another one of those centipedes to throw them against the wall, smashing it and the bugs that had been unfortunate enough to be there.

I will admit that the fight down to the bottom of the cavern was pretty gruelling with just how many of the bugs there were even though they weren’t really much of a threat.

But because of how the cavern was designed, there were bugs pouring out from the other tunnels around the sides of the cavern and also trying to swarm us even as we descended to the lower levels.

It seems like the entire spiral housed incubation chambers where those bugs were being hatched. And once they do, they would then immediately crawl out of those tunnels to start swarming towards us.

Which meant that we were constantly surrounded at all sides and we had to fight them off the entire time as we advanced.

It wasn’t a problem of course, since we quite literally had the firepower to just crush all the bugs that were coming at us. It was just a pain to deal with, that’s all.

The very bottom of the cavern tapered out to a cave half hidden behind several pieces of loose rocks that looked like they had been intentionally moved there by a third party.

No doubt it was the bugs who had moved them there in order to block it off or something. Though why they would want to block off that entrance was rather weird to me since that would mean they had some kind of predator they had to hide from...

Could they have done that after we landed here? But I don’t think we’ve encountered this particular nest even when humans first tried to colonise this planet...

Does that mean the bug queens have a network in between themselves that they are using to communicate with each other?

That means these bugs were actually learning how to build... Either from watching us or consuming us...

Ok... We really cannot let these bugs live for longer than they already have... Otherwise they might even start figuring out how to build themselves a spaceship and fly themselves out of space.

Heck, they might not even need to learn how to build one... They could just take over one of our ships and fly off to start breeding on another planet...

I believe this is a case where we cannot even let a single one of their species survive as they would become some kind of evolving contamination that will consume worlds if left unchecked.

And since we were the ones who had the first contact with them... We have to make sure they don’t get out as well...

My only hope is that the bugs would still continue to explode after their queen dies instead of just running off and starting a new nest or something.

I flicked my hand and sent the rocks flying away, smashing into even more bugs as I flew over to the entrance of the cave.

Two more of those centipedes were stationed at the mouth of the cave and one of them immediately lashed out towards me, trying to bite me in half with its mandibles.

I held out my hand and stopped it in its tracks, prompting the other centipede to lunge forward as well.

It most likely thought that I wouldn’t be able to hold back two centipedes at once and was hoping to get me while using the first centipede as a sacrifice in order to get to me.

Well... I could just raise my hand and stop the centipede as well but Freyja immediately leapt off my shoulders and rushed towards the other centipede, smashing herself on top of the centipede’s head with enough force to send it reeling back.

With a clench of my fists, both of the centipedes’ heads were crushed with a sickening crunch, neither of them even being remotely close to reaching me.

I led the way into the cave, using my telekinesis to shove the corpses of the centipedes aside to reveal a large chamber that was filled with Prisma outcroppings and a very distinct bug queen nesting on top of the largest outcropping.

It slowly turned its head and it watched me with its compound eyes as I floated into the chamber with my girls behind me.

Surprisingly, as though it already knew that its time had come, it did not struggle and the bugs that had been trying to swarm us from the outside suddenly stopped moving and laid themselves down, as though they were preparing themselves for the inevitable.

Well... I suppose they have at least fought valiantly despite the fact that they did not stand a chance... So I will grant the bug queen some honour in that fact even though I’m not even sure if it even has a code of honour or not.

I pulled out my halberd and assembled it in my hand, opting to wield it to finish the queen off instead of just crushing it.

Then again, I do need to present the head of the queen to the military to get my reward anyway so this worked in my favour.

The queen lowered its head while gazing at me with its eyes.

Somehow, I could sense that it was definitely pissed at me but it also had a sort of grudging respect for being able to beat its entire defense to reach the heart of the nest.

I then raised my halberd and lined up the blade at its neck, preparing to swing it down to separate its head cleanly.

I then saw a flicker of movement from the side and I focused my senses to form a Psionic shield, right as something resembling a spear thrust itself in the direction of my head.

It stopped just a few inches away from my face, revealing itself to be something like a tail that was attached to the queen, no doubt its last ditch effort in trying to kill me by getting me to lower my guard in order to pierce me with this.

I huffed at it and shifted my gaze down to its compound eyes again, finding the queen finally resigning itself before my halberd came swinging down.

The head dropped onto the ground with a soft thud and the Prisma crystals around us started pulsing like a light show before the bugs at the cave entrance had their heads explode.

The explosion continued out throughout the rest of the cavern, filling the entire space up with the sounds of their heads blowing up one after the other.

I was going to grab at the bug queen’s head but Freyja beat me to it as she bounded forward and picked it up in her mouth, her tail wagging up a storm behind her as she carried the decapitated head back to me.

So cute~

I gave her the headpat she obviously wanted before turning back to my girls who looked to be quite satisfied with the outcome.

"Welp, that’s our payday," I gestured towards the head. "And another nest cleared too. Think there’s any other nest that got cleared during this time?"

Amber scoffed, "I doubt it. The military would definitely be dragging their feet as they need to get through the ton of bureaucracy needed to even launch another assault after the landing. The good Mercs would still be waiting for more information about the nests before they move and the bad Mercs would already be dead."

I hummed before gesturing at the crystals, "So... You want to mine them, Ries?"

My catgirl lover gasped, "Ohhh!! Yes, yes, yes!!! There’s so much!! Look, look!!"

She projected a screen in front of her Power Armour and I realised she was calling Vier as the dragon girl appeared on the projection.

"What is it? I’m still going through the final edits for the last video," Vier asked, looking a little miffed that she got interrupted.

Ries pointed the camera towards the cavern to show off the Prisma outcroppings that dotted around the cavern.

There was a pause from Vier before she hummed, "I’ll tag the outcroppings that are worth mining. Don’t take all of them or they might demand us to make an inventory of what we took and that would make it harder for us to sell some of them to the black market. Leave me on the call and I’ll point out any other outcroppings that are also worth mining for."

Ries seemed to jump from joy after hearing that and started running around the cave, letting Vier tag all the crystals that we should mine.

I let the girls deal with that while I decided to bring Freyja back towards the ship waiting outside so that we could drop off the head of the Queen instead of just leaving it here.

Good thing that the military doesn’t exactly need the head in pristine condition for us to claim the nest clear reward for turning it in.

That’s another billion credits added to our net worth~
