Chapter 105 – Current Status

“It’s raining~.”

“It’s raining, isn’t it~”

I think I’ll go to church today.

Or maybe I’ll stop by May-chan’s house to see if I can replenish the pills and see when Zink-kun and the others plan to go hunting.

I was thinking about such things, but unfortunately, it’s raining today.

And it’s pouring down pretty hard.

“What are you going to do today, Loki?”

Felin, who had been in my room since this morning, asked me.

I’m in the city, so that doesn’t bother me too much as long as I’m not busy hunting.

“Well, if it’s hunting, I don’t mind moving around. But when it’s not hunting, I don’t like to get wet. I don’t have an umbrella.”

I say to myself, and then I realize what I’ve said.

I think I should also tell Yagov-san about the existence of umbrellas, so I quietly write it down in my notebook.

If civilization continues to develop in this world, it will be easier for me to live.

I’d rather go hunting than be involved in development, but I’d be happy to help out with ideas.

If things go well, I’ll probably get some incentive as well.

“Oh, I see. So we won’t go out to eat then.”

“I’ve been meaning to get my things in order somewhere, so I’ll just relax in my room today. I’m going to have dinner at the inn, but do you want to have lunch with me on the first floor? I think they’ll be able to prepare something for you if you ask them.”

“Yeah, I’ll do that!”

“Okay, I’ll tell the innkeeper to prepare food for both of us. What will you do today, Felin?”

“I’m going to Palmera! The place where Loki arrived was about 6 or 7 days from here, right?”

“It’s not like I knew the way out and went in a straight line. If it was a straight line, it would have been about four days or so. Well, that’s just a guess.”

“Then I’ll drop off the split entity where I went yesterday, and today I’ll try to go further in! I’m fast on my feet, so I think I can get that far today!”

“I see. But if you start in the middle, you’ll be without shoes…”

That’s so sad.

If she walks through the forest barefoot and it’s raining, she’ll definitely get muddy.

“There is nothing I can do about it! I went barefoot yesterday, too, because I thought I wouldn’t be able to come back with shoes on, and anyway, when I withdraw the split entity, it will be clean, so don’t worry, don’t worry!”

“Haha, it really is a convenient skill. But be careful, okay? You can leave this room without the Oracle today.”

“Okay, I’ll go then!”

After watching Felin disappear into the mist, I finished my business on the first floor and opened my status screen with a pen in my hand.

“(Wow, I don’t understand all these bonus stats and stuff…)”

It was a clear mistake.

I should have at least brought my notebook and a pen with me to the Lulub Forest.

Thanks to the fact that I’ve been away for almost half a month, I’ve learned several new skills, and my status has improved, which is good.

But I’m not sure what bonus abilities each skill corresponds to.

I was starting to lose track.

If I flip through my notebook, the last stat record is from when I was level 11, before I went to Lulub Forest.

Since then, the additional skills I’ve acquired and the level increases are all mixed up, so I’ve lost track of what’s what.

What’s more, some of the skills seem to mess with the numbers, so even the superficial level increase values are off.

“(No matter how you look at it, the level increase for each skill is not 3. I understand that, but what’s the reason?)”

While thinking this, I tapped on the calculator to do the calculations.

My hands naturally made a rustling sound on the desk.

Without realizing it, I found myself looking for a cigarette, and then I thought, “Oops!” and pulled my hand back.

If I were on Earth, I would be in the habit of smoking at times like this, but now I can’t because the battery is dead, and even if I did smoke, it would taste like crap in this body.

Instead, I’ll distract my mouth with some strong fruit juice, and for now, I’ll check the details of the new skills I’ve acquired.

Conversation Lv.1: Slightly improved dialog ability. Always active. Magic Power Consumption: 0

Hmm. This might be useful for me, who has trouble communicating, but it’s not essential.

Next,

Cooking Lv.1: Slightly improved cooking ability. Always active. Magic Power Consumption: 0

It would be nice to have this but to be honest, it’s not that important right now.

Next,

Herculean Strength Lv1: Increases Strength by 5. Always active. Magic Power Consumption: 0

Is this the culprit?

It seems that this 5 point increase is not a bonus stat, but is applied to the main stat.

It would be nice to have this. A very welcome skill.

Next,

Physical Attack Resistance Lv1: Increases resistance to physical attacks. Always active. Magic Power Consumption: 0

I’d love to have this, but like Poison Resistance, there’s no specific increase listed.

This could be a rule for resistance skills.

Next,

Steel Heart Lv1: Slightly increases resistance to mental attacks. Also effective against Intimidation. Always active. Magic Power Consumption: 0

Hmm… This is an interesting skill.

It’s the kind of thing you’re quietly happy to have. Besides, it’s always active and doesn’t require any magic power.

Next,

Magic Control Lv1: Improves control of magic, making it easier to use magic. Also reduces the time needed to cast magic by 5%. Always active. Magic Power Consumption: 0

It’s an abstract description, but it seems like a skill that would have a subtle benefit if you had it.

Does the “magic activation time” in the second half of the description refer to the delay until the spell is reactivated or the delay from chanting to activation?

Either way, I don’t think I’d notice a 5% difference, so I’ll have to check it out when I level up a bit more.

Next,

Swift Wind Lv1: Increases Agility by 5. Always active. Magic Power Consumption: 0

This is the same type as the Herculean Strength skill I checked earlier, and judging from the description, it seems to be the agility version of it.

I’m also thrilled to have this skill.

However, the increase in value is a bit subtle, and it doesn’t seem like it’s worth raising the skill level for.

Then…

I tapped on the calculator, wrote down the values, and compared them.

“(Hmm? If the increase of each skill value switches to 4 at level 11, then the values should match… It looks like Magic Power also increases by 8.)”

What I discovered was that there was a change in the increased values.

From level 1 to 10, each ability increased by 3 with each level increase, and Magic Power increased by 6.

From level 11 to 17, each ability increased by 4 for each level up, and only Magic Power increased by 8.

If this is the case, when I reach level 20 and 30, there is a possibility that the increase in value will increase even more.

“(Still, I can’t say anything without knowing the specific status values of strong people…)”

I don’t know how my stats compare to others.

If I don’t know that, I can’t say whether I’m strong or weak or how much I need to increase my stats to be considered strong, but maybe I’ll find out eventually.

I think this kind of work is important for this time.

…I’m not the one who slacked off after being so absorbed in hunting.

Anyway, here are the new skills that were unconfirmed in Lulub.

As expected, the skills possessed by the monsters in Lulub have greatly increased in level, and there are also a few skills that have increased through natural growth!

And there is no way to check the target bonuses.

I’ll just have to give up and check them next time I level up.

I’ve also acquired some skills in the Rocker Plains, but I’ve never looked at the details before, so I think I’ll check them all out now.

Swordsmanship Lv3: As long as you have a sword-shaped weapon, your attack and defense actions get a bonus (Magic Power consumption: 0). You can optionally increase certain actions by 190% for 1 second. Magic Power Consumption: 9

Dagger Technique Lv. 2: As long as you have a dagger-shaped weapon, your attack and defense actions get a bonus (Magic Power consumption: 0). You can optionally increase certain actions by 160% for 1 second. Magic Power Consumption: 7

Hmm.

When the level of Stick Art was 1, the specific action had an ability value of 130%, and the magic power consumption was 5, so the contents were the same regardless of the type of weapon.

And the increased value is 30% per level, and the magic power consumption is 2.

However…

Stick Art Lv5: As long as you have a stick-shaped weapon, your attack and defense actions get a bonus (Magic Power Consumption: 0). You can optionally increase certain actions by 250% for 2 seconds. Magic Power Consumption: 13

Looking at the Stick Art Lv5, which I have no plans to use, the way the boosts and magic power consumption increase remains the same, but the optional number of seconds has changed to 2 seconds.

So, it seems like the number of seconds increases when the level is either 4 or 5.

Well, even though I have Swordsmanship, I never used any of the skill attacks in the end…

If I can use magic, I’ll end up using it for that, so I don’t plan on using it against swarming enemies.

Maybe I’ll use it for the first time when I’m in a one-on-one fight with a strong monster.

And what about the ones related to magic power?

Increased Automatic Magic Recovery Lv2: Increases automatic magic power recovery by 10%. Always active. Magic Power Consumption: 0

Increased Maximum Magic Power Lv2: Increases maximum magic power by 20. Always active. Magic Power Consumption: 0

Hmm, I really let my guard down!

The price I paid for not paying attention to the details of the Rocker Plains has come back to haunt me.

The increased automatic magic recovery is 10% at level 2.

What was it at level 1?

…Well, never mind.

It’s fine because I’ll know the increase at level 3, but the important thing is that it’s not a fixed amount.

The stronger you get, the more useless a fixed amount becomes, but if it’s a percentage, it seems to be a considerable benefit whether the final amount is 20% or 30%.

Plus, you can stack it with Bestowal.

On the other hand, Increased Maximum Magic Power is a fixed amount, so it’s easy to see that it becomes a dead skill in the later stages.

So, if I’m going to put Bestowal on the new weapon I’m making, it looks like I should go with Increased Automatic Magic Recovery, assuming I’m going to be using it for a long time.

As an additional surprise, looking at these values, I can also predict that Paisa-san’s Increased Maximum Magic Power is at an estimated skill level of 5.

Even though he’s retired, he’s still a former C-rank hunter.

As expected.

The rest are all skills with strong bonus elements.

Swiftness Lv2: Movement is slightly faster due to a speed boost. Always active. Magic Power Consumption: 0

Well, it’s better to have it than not to have it.

Vision Enlargement Lv2: Increases your field of vision slightly in all directions. Always active. Magic Power Consumption: 0

Looks like a bug. I thought it was a lewd skill, but even at level 2, I can’t really feel any difference, so it looks like it’s impossible to see directly behind you, no matter how high your skill is.

Or rather, if this kind of view was always active, it would drive you crazy.

Farsightedness Lv2: Allows you to see slightly farther. Always active. Magic Power Consumption: 0

This is quite a nice skill if you think of it as an enhanced eyesight skill. No need for glasses?

Provocation Lv2: Makes it easier to get someone’s attention. Range: 20 meters. Activates creatures within a 2-meter radius of the target. Magic Power Consumption: 7

When I used this in the Lulub, I was surprised when the monsters came all at once, but if you look at the details, it’s a skill that makes sense.

If you accidentally use it in a higher-level hunt, it’s a skill that will trigger a death flag.

On the other hand, if you’re in a lower-level hunting ground, it might be a useful skill if you’re trying to save someone.

The fact that the target is a living thing is also interesting.

In other words, it also works on humans… I don’t want to lure anyone in, though.

Phew~…

For now, I’ve got a general idea of my current skills.

I’ll gather information about the parts I don’t understand and compare and verify them in the future, but I think I’ve figured out the <New> now.

The <New> will continue until I check the status screen to see if I’ve acquired the appropriate skill or increased my skill level.

There doesn’t seem to be a time or date limit here, so as long as I just open the status screen, I can assume that the <New> won’t disappear.

The last time I checked the skills screen was… when there was a bathing event in Lulub.

I hunted for about a week after that, and it’s been a few days since I’ve been back in the city.

However, the skills gained in Lulub still had the <New> attached to them until just now.

And during that time, I kept opening the status screen to see how much I had left to level up.

I didn’t look at the skill screen, so I think that’s probably the final specification for the <New> status.

At the end of each day’s hunting, I now have more fun looking for skills with a <New> status.

I guess I should thank Acorn for that.

“(It is useful in a subtle way. So it would be great if the amount of money I have and the skills I have could be divided into categories like ‘active,’ ‘semi-active,’ and ‘passive.’ It would also be good if the skills I’ve already acquired could be divided into categories like “combat,” “magic,” and “job,” so they’re easier to see. Please take care of it. Please take care of it.)”

As I prayed to the dark rain clouds, I felt a strong magical presence, as if Felin had just returned.

It feels a little early, but after lunch, I’ll start thinking about what to spend my 128 skill points on.

I have time today.

Let’s take it easy and think about it while looking at the skill screen.

Of course, my face starts to smile.

This is the kind of time I enjoy.

With that in mind, I called out to Felin as she appeared.

“Welcome back! Are you hungry already?”
