Chapter 110 – Date
Although I use the word “date,” we’re in a small rural town, Bezart.
There are no movie theaters, karaoke rooms, or video arcades.
In this world, even the royal capital probably doesn’t have all that, but there’s nothing like a place where a man and a woman would go together.
So in the end, we just walked around the usual main street.
But still, the atmosphere of the city looks different when you call it a date.
I guess it is the same for Felin.
We’ve walked around the city together for dinner many times before, but today we’re both so nervous, so it’s a big deal for both of us.
“(If only Felin’s looks were a little more ordinary…)”
I know it’s extravagant to think like that.
At 32 years old, I have at least some dating experience, but the girl next to me is so out of the ordinary in her appearance that my communication problems explode, and I can’t get a good conversation going.
“Shall we have a drink first?”
“Uh-huh!”
“Do you want something to drink?”
“Hmm… A-alcohol?”
“Eh? At this hour?”
“Oh, no! No, no, no, no! I’m just kidding!”
I thought to myself, “Why are you drinking in the middle of the day?” But when I think about it, it’s not that rare on Earth, or rather for me.
In this world, there are hunters who drink in the morning for some reason, and even on Earth, there are people who drink during the day…
And when I said drinking, Felin had a strong reaction to alcohol for some reason.
“(Hmm, is that possible? I guess drinking would help ease the strange nervousness…)”
I scurried around.
I saw an old man at a stall buying some drinks, so I asked him for some information about alcohol.
“Uncle! Do you know of any stalls around here that serve alcohol?”
“Oh, boy. What’s the matter, have you started drinking?”
“I had my first experience with alcohol the other day…”
“Most places that serve food have alcohol, but…”
As he said this, he looked at Felin, who was behind me.
“Hmm. Go a little north from here and turn right at the clothing store. You’ll see a square in front of you, and the place across the square is quite nice.”
“Oh, thank you!”
From what I heard, I don’t know what kind of store it is.
But I felt a strange sense of trust from the uncle, who seemed to have guessed what was going on.
It’s like I hear a phantom voice saying, “Good luck, boy…”
Then I guess I’ll have to go.
I bought two yakitori as a thank-you, and as I walked around eating with Felin, I headed toward the place I was told to go, and sure enough, a plaza came into view.
And across from it was…
“Oh! An open terrace!”
A building with a cozy atmosphere stands on the street with only a roof, and several tables and chairs are set up so that people can eat outside the restaurant.
I am used to seeing such a place in modern times, but in Bezart, I had to choose between going inside the building or eating at a food stall, so I was very impressed by the nice atmosphere of the restaurant I saw for the first time.
Here, I could relax and have a drink at my own pace while looking at the square, and if I got hungry, I could eat there as well.
Thank you, Uncle!
“This place has an atmosphere I’ve never seen before!”
“I guess so. I think we can relax here! It’s still deserted at this time!”
Two well-dressed, wealthy ladies were enjoying their tea on the open patio, so it was unlikely that the place was still closed.
I immediately entered the restaurant and asked for the open terrace.
As we took our seats, we were handed a menu on a wooden board with lots of writing all the way to the back.
“Have you ever had a drink, Felin?”
“No, I have not! I knew the race… humans drank it often, so I wanted to try it!”
“I see. Then you might want to try a variety of drinks, so why don’t you start with something with a low alcohol content? I’m not a big fan of ale here, so I’ll leave that out.”
As we talked, we chose a fruit wine to start with.
This was a beginner’s level of alcohol, so even a beginner would have no problem with it.
Unlike the food, the alcohol was served immediately, so I told Felin about the Japanese custom and said, “Cheers,” as I tapped my glass against hers.
Then I watched as Felin, looking at me curiously, put her glass back in her mouth.
“This is delicious!”
I was relieved to hear Felin make such a comment, and when I tried a glass myself, I found it to be just as I had expected.
It is quite easy to drink, and I feel it is a good drink for me, as I was crushed by wine the last time I drank it.
However… it is still unfortunate that it is not chilled.
I’m not against drinking wine at room temperature, but I’d like this kind of drink to be chilled if at all possible.
Especially on a sunny summer day like today.
“Loki-kun, did it not suit your palate?”
I wonder if Felin saw me pondering after taking a sip of the drink.
I quickly cleared up the misunderstanding when she looked worried.
“No, it’s probably even easier to drink than wine. But on Earth, all these drinks are chilled. Even the glasses.”
“Huh? Even the glasses are chilled?”
“That makes it taste even colder, doesn’t it? Especially on a hot day like today.”
“I see… it sounds like it would taste better if it were chilled!”
“In this world, cold food would have to be made with magic tools or magic, so it would not be easy to make it cold.”
“Hmm, hmm… Then wait a minute!”
I stared blankly at Felin as she ran off somewhere, and after disappearing for a moment, she quickly returned.
C-could it be――
“Hehehe. I brought Ice Magic!”
“Oh!”
As expected from a goddess.
She’s so competent that I want to say I love her with all my might.
Felin immediately covered the glass with both hands, tilted her head a little, and muttered a cute phrase into the glass, “Glass~ get cold~. The drink too~ be cold~.”
Creak, creak…
Then, the glass turns a little white while making a slightly suspicious sound.
Even from a distance, you can tell that the glass is cold.
“Don’t freeze it completely, okay? It’s just to cool it down, you know?”
“Then this is about right?”
She stopped what she was doing and brought the glass to me.
“How about this? Loki-kun, please tell me what you think!”
If you say so, I have no choice but to be the subject of the experiment.
Isn’t this Felin’s glass? I couldn’t say things like a middle schooler.
I nervously grabbed the glass and felt the pleasant coldness in my hand.
And when I sipped the fruit wine…
“Delicious――――!”
This is it!
It’s the best in the summer because it’s so cold and you gulp it down!
Ah… It reminds me of the beer garden I used to go to in the summer with the guys from the company.
I remember the cold alcohol we drank in the open air with no air conditioning…
It seeps into the core of my body.
“Felin, this is amazing. It’s so effective because the weather is so hot!”
“Yay! Then I’ll do this too!”
With that, Felin begins to work on my glass as well.
Once she got the hang of it, it seemed like a magic trick that only took about five seconds, and she slurped the glass down in one gulp.
“Phew! It’s cold and delicious!”
“I know, right? That’s what makes adults on Earth addicted to it!”
Perhaps because of the alcohol, the strange atmosphere that existed at the beginning was lost.
As we talked about Earth’s alcoholic beverages and my past drinking mistakes, I began to drink some chilled wine while eating some cheese and some fruit wine while eating some rich meat.
We try not to get too drunk, but the time passes slowly and pleasantly.
Felin seems to be… a strong drinker.
Her face is red, but she talks clearly, or rather I have the feeling she talks a lot…
Drinking with a girl like that is fun…
I bet she’s the type who gets brighter the more she drinks…
Before I know it, it’s getting dark outside…
Whew… I’m sleepy…
I hate my body for not being able to handle alcohol…
