Chapter 182 – Royal Capital Falmenta

“Wow, look at all the people lining up!”

Below me was a huge stone wall that seemed taller than Malta and wide enough for people to walk on.

At first glance, it seemed to have four layers, and some of the outer wall had long, thin lines running along it, like earthworms.

Looking closer, I could see that these were people, horses, carriages――

I could tell immediately that they were in a queue to enter the royal capital.

I guess it’s a service for the people in line.

There were many huts on the outside wall that looked like they might blow over in the wind.

With this scene behind me,

“Sorry for cheating!”

I went over the outer wall from above and looked for a big roof that looked like it would be a good landing place.

If you had to say whether it was good or bad, I guess it was bad.

Except for the village, every town has some kind of identity check to prevent undesirables from entering.

However, I had already spoken to the Gorilla Mayor about taxes and such in preparation for this situation.

Is there any kind of tax or entrance fee that you have to pay when you enter a city?

The answer is no.

At least, there are no cities in Lagreath or the surrounding countries that collect such taxes.

Merchants have their cargo inspected, so it seems to take a while, but as a hunter, I can basically come and go as I please as long as I have my guild card.

I knew this from the towns I’d visited so far, so I didn’t hesitate to jump over the outer wall.

Well, if I get caught and scolded, I’m willing to get down on my knees.

I wrapped myself in the big cloak I bought to protect myself from the cold and made a sharp dive, keeping my eyes on the target.

Now that I’m getting used to it, I don’t have to move my arms as much, so I make a few small adjustments inside my cloak and land on the roof I’m aiming for.

“Hmm, it took quite a while…”

It’s been about eight days since I left Lipsum.

After a few detours here and there, I’ve finally arrived at the capital of the Kingdom of Lagreath, a huge city that I can’t see the end of even if I look down from a reasonable height.

I’ve arrived in the capital of the Kingdom of Lagreath, “Falmenta.”

It’s only when I land somewhere close to the ground that I can really appreciate the hustle and bustle of the city and its chaotic atmosphere.

If I were still a shut-in, I’d probably feel dizzy and nauseous, but now I’m actually kind of excited by this atmosphere.

I heard that the countries in the middle of the continent are suffering because of the reincarnated people, but I wonder if they still have the energy to do something about it?

While I was thinking about such things, I jumped down from the roof and took a quick look around.

The Hunters’ Guild is important, but what I’m really hoping for in a city this big is an inn with a bath!

I can’t help but feel the bag of gold coins in my hand, and I think the best inns are in the center of the city, not on the outskirts.

While I’m hoping for an inn as good as the Hanfarest, I start walking towards the next inner wall and look around the shops on the street.

“I’ll pay in advance. Please.”

I showed the old man, who looked like he was having trouble making up his mind, the leather bag, which intentionally made a jingling sound.

I was now at the end of the second wall, counting from the outer wall.

I had entered what the townspeople called the “Third District,” an area with a slightly wider street and a more orderly atmosphere.

The quality of the construction was clearly different from that of the Fourth District, which had many narrow, winding paths and was, in places, like a maze.

The Third District clearly shows that it was planned and built with care.

The Fourth District, on the other hand, gives the impression that it was built in a hurry, with only the main road being extended.

Moving on from here to the second district, it seems to be an area for the nobility and other wealthy people, and I was told that there are several inns with baths that I would like to visit.

However, for someone like me who has only experienced the lives of ordinary people, such an upscale area would only cause me unnecessary stress.

I had my sights set on the third district, which seemed to have a good balance, but…

It seems that my appearance is still a problem here as well.

Just like in Hanfarest before, or rather because this time they showed their worries on their faces, I decided to take advantage of it and hint at what I was looking for.

“Hmm… as long as you can pay in advance.”

“Then for two days.”

If the price is not much different than when I stayed in Hanfarest, then this is probably the going rate for inns with baths.

After paying quickly and putting my things in my room, I immediately set off to explore the Hunters’ Guild.

I had heard that because the city was so large, there were two guilds in the south and northeast of the fourth district, so I started jogging toward the guild in the south, which was closer to where I was.

That night.

“Well, this is a bit tricky…”

After a refreshing bath, I thought about my future plans in this city while using my magic to dry my hair with a wind spell.

It’s a fun city to explore.

It would take about 2 or 3 hours to walk from the entrance gate south of Falmenta, where there was a long line, to this inn in the third district.

The main street was so wide that it was common for the townspeople to use the shared horse-drawn carriages. It was busy, with many shops lining the street.

The length of the street and the number of shops were such that one could easily spend a couple of days just looking around.

This continued all the way to the third district, where the common people came and went.

It seems that you don’t need a permit to enter and exit the second district either, so if you have the money, you could probably walk around and look at the shops that sell high-quality clothes and furniture.

But for a hunter like me…

Or, to be more precise, for a monster junkie hunter like me, this town is extremely boring.

There are only two F-rank hunting grounds around the capital, and they’re not even close.

Even so, the hunter’s guild in the south that I stopped by today was quite busy, and when I looked at the request board, I saw that most of the requests were for escorting carriages in various directions.

Given the location of the capital, the surrounding area is plain with very little difference in elevation, so it’s probably inevitable that there are few monsters in this area.

Still, the request was a bit too one-sided.

(None of them were new monsters. The only new monsters I encountered on my way to the capital were monkeys called Slow Monkeys in the F-rank hunting grounds, and after passing through Lipsum, it suddenly became much harder to find new monsters…)

I successfully acquired a new skill called Throwing Technique from the monkeys that kept throwing things at me.

So it was worth stopping by, but it’s also true that it’s getting a little hard to tell if it’s efficient or not.

Well, I also have a secondary goal of completing the map.

There’s a chance that the monster composition will change completely even within the same rank, depending on the area and environment, so for now, I guess I’ll just have to keep an eye on things and take my time until I’ve completed the map of the Kingdom of Lagreath.

Having come to this conclusion, I glance at my watch to confirm my schedule for the next day and then say the name of a skill.

Mmm!

Divine Communication.

“Well… I’ve arrived in the capital of the country I’m in today, so is there anyone who wants to go sightseeing for a day in disguise? I’ll treat you to dinner if you want to go shopping as well~.”

((((((…..))))))

It might not be a good idea for me to do this.

However, during the kidnapping incident, there was even a little fight about who would come down.

In other words, everyone wants to come down if they have the chance.

It seems that those girls who are trapped in the divine realm are not wrong.

So sometimes.

I can’t create such opportunities very often, but I want to help them relax, at least when I have something to do in town.

I also want to give someone some of the food I found today because it seems like something that everyone in Japan would know.

That was the idea behind my suggestion…

(Speaking of Loki’s bodyguard, that’s my role!)

(In the city, there’s no need for a bodyguard, right?)

(I think it’s about time I got my turn!)

(The battle to descend to the lower world begins again!)

(What am I supposed to do when I don’t even have the right to begin with!)

(At least… wait another half month…)

――I can’t help but laugh at the same old reaction.

(You really don’t seem like a god…)

It seems that my thoughts were immediately revealed, and there was a commotion in my brain again, but――

I tried to block out the voices and explained the points to watch out for when descending this time.

I thought that they would not come to a conclusion in time while trying not to repeat the same mistake.

I thought about when to go to see the chief court magician.
