Chapter 242 – Long-Cherised Wish
“I see. So, those two are now your companions?”
“What exactly do companions do?”
“Hmm, now that you mention it, I’m not really sure. It’s kind of vague, but I guess it means hunting together, helping each other out, and working toward a common goal. I have to give my blood to Zeo-san, and those two ancient people don’t seem to have anywhere to go.”
“That means someone has appeared in the lower world to protect Loki-kun!” Said Feeril.
“Rigal will be a little jealous, but it’s still good news for everyone.” Riste added.
“Haha, for now, I’ll take care of setting up a life for the two of them. Now that things have turned out like this, though, we have to figure out what to do about our original plan.”
“You mean the base?”
“Oh, you get it?”
“Yes, we’ve been waiting for this moment.”
“Fufu, is it finally here?”
“Yes, so I want you to tell everyone about the two options we have. Especially Alicia.”
“Of course. I’ll do whatever Loki-kun wants.”
“I’ll ask everyone which option they prefer.”
“I’ll contact you again later. Thank you for watching over me!”
Huh? Something seems a little different than usual, but maybe it’s just my imagination.
I wave goodbye and watch the two of them disappear like mist. I think about what lies ahead.
There’s so much to do.
I want to do it all, but I don’t know where to start.
I don’t think something this happy happens very often.
(Finally… it’s finally happened…)
“Sorry to keep you waiting!”
“That was a long restroom break.”
“You peed because you were happy, right? I’ve heard of that before.”
“No, that’s not it! I’m not a dog!”
I felt bad about keeping them waiting, so I called out to them right away. However, I couldn’t bring myself to tell them about the goddesses yet.
I’ll wait until everyone gives their permission. There’s a possibility that they might not get along, so I want to be cautious.
“Um, can you repeat that? I’ll write it down so I don’t get it wrong!”
“That’s fine, but Loki, I want you to stop talking like a stranger.”
“Eh? Oh, it’s just a habit. I’m sorry.”
“I consider Loki a comrade and a fellow member of my race. Above all, you are my benefactor who saved my life. If you continue to speak to me like that, I will have to correct my speech as well. I know I’m being selfish, but I’d appreciate it if you’d speak to me as you do to Carla.”
“Okay, I understand. Then, is it okay if I call you Zeo?”
“Yes, that sounds more natural. Now, let me repeat what you need to know. You must definitely…”
Magic Manipulation Lv5
Time Magic Lv5
Non-Attribute Magic Lv8
With trembling hands, I wrote down the three skill names and their respective levels that Zeo had told me.
Carla was impressed that I was writing something like this, but I was too busy to pay attention to him.
I opened the status screen and compared it with my currently available skill points.
(Yes, it’s okay. I think I have enough.)
My current skill points were 928.
When I had raised Berserk in the past, its level had increased from 2 to 8, and I thought it had cost around 700 points.
I’ve met the requirements for Magic Manipulation Level 5, so…
Time Magic Lv. 4 → Lv. 5
Non-Attribute Magic Lv. 3 → Lv8
The only two I’m missing are these.
I regret not raising Non-Attribute Magic to Level 4, but I’ve worked hard to save up for this, so I don’t think I can hold back now.
Phew.
I took a long, deep breath.
Okay. Let’s do this!
(Raise Non-Attribute Magic to Level 4.)
30 points consumed.
‘You have acquired Non-Attribute Magic Lv4.’
(Raise Non-Attribute Magic to level 5.)
50 points consumed.
‘You have acquired Non-Attribute Magic Lv5.’
(Raise Non-Attribute Magic to Level 6.)
100 points consumed.
‘You have acquired Non-Attribute Magic Lv6.’
(Raise Non-Attribute Magic to level 7.)
200 points consumed.
‘You have acquired Non-Attribute Magic Lv7.’
(Raise Non-Attribute Magic to level 8.)
300 points consumed.
‘You have acquired Non-Attribute Magic Lv8.’
So far, I have used 680 skill points.
Okay, let’s do this!
(Raise Time Magic to Level 5.)
Consumes 50 points.
‘You have acquired Time Magic Lv5.’
‘Spatial Magic has been unlocked.’
“Nuuuuuuoooooooooo!!”
“W-what happened?”
“Hey! Why did Loki suddenly yell like that next to me?”
“I’m sorry! I’m so sorry… I’m so happy. I feel like I’m going to die.”
“Huh!?”
“Carla, you’ve known Loki longer than I have. Explain this situation.”
“Master, I was woken up today, too. How am I supposed to know?”
“I’m sorry. I’ll explain everything. Just wait here… Oh, you can look around, but don’t break anything. Please wait.”
I left the special basket there.
For now, I’ll let the two of them enjoy themselves over there.
I’m so excited that I feel like I’m hyperventilating. But the important part starts now.
I have 198 skill points left.
If I use them all… Oh my god!
I can make it to level 6!
The bigger question is whether I really need to go that far.
From now on, I can allocate points to any skill I want.
If I reach a reasonable skill level and can still use the Spatial Magic I want, it might be better to allocate the points elsewhere.
For now, though, I’ll just go ahead and do it.
(Acquire level 1 Spatial Magic.)
Consumed 2 points.
‘You have acquired Spatial Magic Lv1.’
I immediately opened the detailed description, and this is what appeared:
Spatial Magic Lv1: Temporarily connect to a subspace and utilize that space. Mana consumption: Depends on the range of the space used and the connection time.
I see…
This explanation differs from previous magic systems.
Does that mean that mana consumption varies depending on the distance traveled and such?
I wonder if there’s any point in raising the level.
I should probably ask the Master about this.
“Zeo, what are the benefits of raising the skill level of Spatial Magic?”
“Reduced mana consumption. You can’t use it properly unless you raise the level. It’s useful for long-distance movement, but even just storing items in the space constantly consumes mana depending on their size.”
“Eh… Seriously…?”
“I lost everything because of that.”
“…”
This is more difficult than I anticipated. It may be a more powerful type of magic than I thought.
I expected a correlation between distance traveled and mana consumption, but I didn’t anticipate that storing items in subspace would be considered a constant connection.
Out of the corner of my eye, I see Carla trying to put on the clothes I gave him.
I want to tell him to put on underwear before pants, but now is not the time.
I pick up a small stone from the ground, deciding it won’t matter if I lose it.
―Spatial Magic―
“”Huh?””
I’m not sure if I need to chant anything, but I say the skill name out loud while visualizing it. After a few seconds, a small black hole appears and swallows the stone.
The black space closes immediately, completing the Storage.
I check the mana consumption on the status screen, but nothing has changed, probably because the stone was too small.
“Loki, could you use Spatial Magic from the beginning?”
“The pebble you were holding disappeared, right? Does that mean it is activated?”
“Yeah, I just learned it.”
“”…Huh?””
“There are a lot of things about me that are different from normal people. I need to do some experiments, so I’m going to the forest outside for a bit.”
“Wait a minute!”
I learned a lot through experimentation.
There are three main uses for Spatial Magic.
The first is “Storage,” which involves collecting and storing items such as soil and stones that are found around. The storage capacity was estimated to be sufficient to fill approximately 10 square meters, with an estimated mana consumption of around 10 per minute.
This was the consumption rate for Spatial Magic Level 1.
With armor on, my natural mana recovery rate was about 8 to 9 per minute. Therefore, if I stored enough to fill about 7.5 square meters, I wouldn’t consume any mana.
If I stored enough to fill 10 square meters, it would slightly overflow, and my mana would gradually decrease.
This issue will be mitigated as my maximum mana increases, so I really want to get more mana bonuses.
Additionally, sleeping with a storage capacity that exceeds my natural recovery rate will result in the loss of all my items when my mana runs out and the connection is lost. Therefore, I understand that sleeping with a large storage capacity is absolutely not recommended.
The storage judgment is also difficult to grasp because it involves touching the target and imagining it. For example, if I touch the ground and imagine “this area,” everything within that area, including trees and grass, will be stored.
Retrieving items is different from the inventory system. I have to imagine the item I want and the quantity, then pull it out. As with other types of magic, the user’s imagination plays a significant role.
There’s no need to search around. However, if I forget what I stored, the only way to retrieve items is to empty everything. Therefore, it might be a good idea to take notes if I end up storing too many items.
According to Zeo, unless I have the Chantless ability, I need to say a chant to activate it. However, it’s different from basic magic, so I don’t need to chant a long spell. I can just use a word that I naturally associate with Storage.
Next is the extremely important Spatial Teleportation, which consumes mana based on the distance traveled.
Movement points can be determined by sight, memory, or, in my case, a map.
“Memory” refers to places I’ve been to before, where I can clearly imagine where I’ll land.
I don’t have anything to measure distance, nor have I ever tried, so I’d say it’s about one kilometer. Moving that distance consumes about 1 mana at level 1.
At first glance, that seems like a small amount, but only when I’m moving alone. Carrying luggage or accompanying others increases the mass, which in turn increases mana consumption. I discovered this when I brought Carla and Zeo with me.
Zeo, who is larger, requires more mana, so the number of people does not determine the mana consumption, at least not for one or two people.
Additionally, in order to accompany someone, they must be in direct contact with the magic user. This means that as long as there is contact, it is possible to move them regardless of their will.
Incidentally, I was unable to move only the target to the specified location without moving myself.
Finally, there is “Disappearance.”
This ability allows me to carve out the exact location I imagine. I wanted to use it when I created the bath in Lulub.
The activation is the same as for “Storage,” but if I disconnect midway through, it switches to “Disappearance.” That was my impression after repeating the experiment several times.
Another major drawback is the slow activation time, which is not limited to “Disappearance” but is also common to “Storage” and “Spatial Teleportation.” I think the lag in activation is a characteristic of Spatial Magic.
Especially when targeting moving objects, the activation is extremely slow.
Therefore, cutting off a moving target at will is practically impossible against humans or monsters unless the opponent is extremely foolish. Similarly, using it for emergency evasion by instantly warping somewhere else is impractical.
—is also impractical because, if there’s enough time for that, the situation isn’t urgent to begin with. In that sense, it’s not an all-purpose magic that can do anything.
Still, perhaps because there’s no connection to spirits, the magic doesn’t overflow outward; it remains a god-tier skill.
‘You have acquired Spatial Magic Lv2.’
‘You have acquired Spatial Magic Lv3.’
‘You have acquired Spatial Magic Lv4.’
‘You have acquired Spatial Magic Lv5.’
‘You have acquired Spatial Magic Lv6.’
Okay, I’ve spent all my skill points.
Spatial Magic Lv6: You can temporarily connect to subspace and use that space. Mana consumption: 50% reduction. This depends on the range of the space used and the connection time.
Mana consumption is reduced by 10% for each level increase.
At this level, I should be able to use about 20 square meters of storage space while hunting. My money-making efficiency is sure to skyrocket!
“Ufu… ufufu… ufufufufufu…”
“Hey, Master… That person has been looking at the ground and giggling to himself for a while now. Is he really okay?”
“Well, it’s definitely not normal, but interesting. There’s no doubt about that.”
“Yeah, his expressions change so often that it’s never boring to watch.”
“Then that’s fine. Besides, people who enjoy that kind of verification are strong. They master skills and can apply them in various ways. Carla should learn from him.”
“I see!”
The verification process took about an hour.
It was getting dark, so I decided that was enough for the day.
I would address any questions that came up later.
The next thing to do was celebrate.
It was a celebration for their awakening, for gaining new companions, and for finally acquiring magic.
There are various details, but they don’t matter.
Carla is already wearing my clothes. If I can get clothes for Zeo, who is still wearing nothing, we should have time for the celebration.
Then, let’s go all out today!
“Let’s all go out to eat!”
