Chapter 267 – Huge Warehouse

It’s the third night since I started hunting in the Quoitz Dragon Burial Mountains.

As I watch the landscape change day by day from above, I ponder my future base.

The upper plateau remains unchanged, with the goddesses doing as they please. Currently, there are about ten half-built houses along the river, as well as the stone warehouse that I prepared.

Behind them are piles of lumber and stone stacked like mountains.

The houses seem to disappear and reappear every time I look, so I suppose Alicia is teaching everyone how to build using the one that’s finally been completed as a base.

The light from the magical illumination tools never goes out, and frankly, those girls never sleep. At night, I imagine they’re trying out new skills and learning all sorts of things.

The only downside is the sheer number of half-finished projects, but as long as they’re not doing anything reckless, everything is fine.

The only pitiful thing is the vast expanse of farmland left dug up and abandoned. I really need to head to the beginner dungeon as soon as possible to get some seeds.

As for the lower plateau, its living base was steadily and solidly expanding.

There’s a circular lake, probably about 4 to 5 kilometers in diameter.

On the western bank stood two small houses—one for Zeo and Carla and one for me. Behind the houses, in one corner, sat a pile of monster materials. A wild boar that Carla had caught in the forest was wandering around.

Zeo had apparently trained the boar, so it was fine even without a fence.

Carla steadily expanded the safe zone around them. Though stumps littered the ground, the area up to the cliff had already been cleared, and there was good visibility over a kilometer around the houses.

Just before that was a stone-built blood pool, a monster dismantling area, and a makeshift warehouse for drying hides. They were all built with Earth Magic as instructed. I probably still needed to clear a bit more.

Even so, having come this far, it seemed unlikely that monsters would approach the houses themselves.

A shared storage shed stood between each house, one of my earliest creations. It provided just enough space to keep things dry in the rain.

Beyond that were shared spaces, such as baths, desks, and bonfire areas, between two houses and the lake. Zeo is currently building a dock on the lake.

Two large cavities were hollowed out inside the cliff face. One cavity houses a refrigerated food storage area, and the other cavity houses goods recovered from bandits. Surprisingly, few structures exist outside these cavities.

I’m holding off on building my own home on the upper plateau, by the way.

Initially, we agreed that I would stay on the lower plateau until Zeo was safe, just in case something happened to him. But, honestly, building a house up there would make me feel incredibly out of place.

After all, I’m just a commoner. The upper plateau is strictly for the goddesses.

So, I established a rule that I’ll mainly stay on the lower plateau, but occasionally pop up to the upper plateau for fun.

Felin and Riste complained, but neither of them has built their own house yet.

When I told them about my exclusive “Secret Base Project,” they both shut up. Problem solved for now.

Now, the problem is what to do about Lodge-san’s house.

“Zeo~, can I give the house you built for me to that dwarf, Lodge-san, who we talked about yesterday?”

“That’s fine, but what about Loki’s sleeping spot? You can’t build a house in just a day or two, you know?”

“I can sleep in a hole I dig in the cliff, so don’t worry about me. Besides, I’m busy hunting monsters and searching for treasure. I could stay at an inn in town until things settle down.”

“Eh, the meat and blood are super delicious, so I’d really like it if you could bring back a dragon!”

“No, no, I’ll admit the meat is incredibly delicious. But even after sharing some, there’s still a lot left over. Besides, the price they pay for it will probably drop soon, or they’ll just refuse to buy it. When that happens, I’ll bring it back here. Lodge-san wanted the ingredients, too.”

“Hmm… Human affairs are such a hassle.”

“Compared to that, there’s absolutely nothing troublesome here, right?”

“That’s because there’s literally nothing here.”

Hearing those words, I couldn’t help but let out a wry smile.

It’s only because these two are so resourceful. In this normally far too barren environment, wouldn’t they start complaining about wanting to go back after just a week?

Honestly, if it weren’t for the condition of “blood,” Zeo and Carla could definitely live here without me.

Zeo mentioned that it’s getting easier to carry logs, so if his strength keeps coming back bit by bit, it’ll be even better.

Whether Lodge-san, who’s closer to an ordinary person, could endure this environment is another matter.

(Still, it wouldn’t hurt to have him.)

With these thoughts in mind, I walked across the vacant lot behind the house, chanting, “Force it, plow! Force it, plow!” and shot magic from my feet, churning the soil into mounds.

I still couldn’t cover a wide area, but the spreading tree roots twisted and snapped. I tossed the troublesome stumps toward the house.

They’d make good fuel, and Zeo might find some use for them.

Once I cleared an area about the size of a gymnasium, I began the experiment.

How large could I make the maximum “Stone Wall” possible with Level 6 Earth Magic?

I chanted the spell, focusing on achieving a thickness of about 30 cm.

“Create a large, flat stone floor.”

Rumble, rumble, rumble——…

Then, before my eyes, the stone floor materialized.

I was amazed at how seamless and beautiful it was, like a single slab. But oh—ohhhhh?

It’s spreading way beyond what I imagined!

This is—isn’t this just a bit too much for my intelligence to handle?

“Whoa, that’s amazing!”

“Hmmm, not bad, Loki.”

“No, no, you two. Don’t just praise it so casually.”

What I built was huge—big enough to cover the entire schoolyard, not just the gym—and it spilled far beyond the neatly leveled frame I made.

When I took out the magic gem and rolled it, it rolled slowly and steadily. This was a good kind of failure.

After that, I erased it, leveled the ground, rebuilt it, and rolled it again.

As I pondered whether I could make a spirit level, I finished building a ridiculously huge warehouse with six stone-covered sides.

Just as with the bath before, there was no distortion in the molding, whether it was due to the magic’s influence or not. If you fit it perfectly, you couldn’t feel any gaps.

I increased the thickness of the four walls and buried them deep into the ground, resulting in a low ceiling height.

However, when I put the lid on, it naturally formed a ventilation opening. I figured this might actually work.

With this vast space, which I estimated to be around 400 m x 200 m x 100 m, it could easily serve as Lodge-san’s workshop.

“I was wondering what to do about the woodpile, but with this much space, I could probably build it inside.”

“Yeah, it’s almost too tall as it is, so maybe we could add levels inside the warehouse later.”

That depends on how hard we work from now on.

We’ll think about it again when we have more stuff from hunting and defeating villains.

“Well, then. The dwarf uncle might move in as early as tomorrow, so both of you, please take good care of him.”
