Winter Swan

Chapter 69

Chapter 69: <Chapter 68>

In the abandoned farm, the police also found Ingrid’s dead pet dog covered in flies. Ingrid remembered the gruesome scene and shivered.

‘My Lala died instead of me. My poor dog… She died such a horrible death. That crazy bastard!’

In the same place, the cops also found Kail.

Rolf and Hannah’s son.

Rolf brought his son back to the mansion. It was then that he registered Kail for a birth certificate, and that was why Kail was attending the same grade as Silje. His first three years of life was a mystery to everyone.

Fredrick, Kail’s paternal grandfather, raised him in an impossibly strict manner. Kail grew up like a wild animal with Larson and when Fredrick got his hands on Kail, he used a whip to tame him.

Ingrid thought to herself.

‘People may think Kail has become civilized, but I know he is still an animal. At least that incident with Larson helped me. I was able to play victim and gain Rolf’s sympathy. I remember my wedding day and Kail glaring at me. I hated him then, and I still hate him so much. Even when he was young, it seemed like he could see right through me.’

Ingrid knew what she had to do.

‘I need to get rid of him. Kail knows everything I have done. When Rolf dies, he won’t let me live. I just know it. Kail can act like a man, but I know he is still an animal. Just like his grandfather Larson, Kail will try to kill me when he gets a chance.’

Her eyes shined evilly in the darkness. Ingrid murmured, “So I will have to kill him first.”

“My dear son.”

Rolf smiled affectionately as his son Kail walked into the library.

“I have been waiting for you.”

Rolf couldn’t take his eyes off from his tall son.

His only child in this world.

Rolf loved him with all his heart and always felt apologetic to him.

Kail lost his mother at a young age and was forced to live in the wild for the first few years of his life. Rolf wasn’t there to protect him, and once he found Kail, Rolf tried to be as indulgent as possible. This was why whenever Kail caused troubles at school, Rolf made them disappear.

“Have a seat, Kail.”

Kail nodded and sat down on the sofa. They both had cold looks, but Rolf patted Kail’s head lovingly and Kail kissed his father’s forehead.

Kail genuinely loved his father. After his maternal grandfather died, Rolf was the only person who loved him in this mansion. Though he was an untamed beast, Kail couldn’t help but open up to his loving father eventually.

Kail loved him despite his father’s obvious faults. Even now, Rolf was looking at Kail with love.

Rolf was short, sickly, and had white hair. In appearance, they differed greatly, but unlike his looks, Rolf was a determined and savvy businessman. This was why the Bruntland Group was able to become the biggest corporation in Norway. Rolf looked quiet and almost timid on the outside, but he had the will of steel.

“My beloved son, did you cause trouble at school again?”

When Rolf asked worriedly, Kail shook his head.

“No, nothing like that. You have nothing to worry about, Father.”

“Good, good. You have to stop being so stubborn, alright? If you want to survive in this high society, you need to learn to get along with others, Kail.”

At Rolf’s firm advice, Kail nodded.

“Don’t worry. I won’t cause any more problems.”

When Kail smiled mysteriously, Rolf’s eyes narrowed.

“If you graduate from your school successfully, you will inherit this company. But if I don’t find you acceptable, I will not give you this business.”

Rolf emphasized his next words.

“Don’t forget that you are being watched by many eyes at all times. We were born into this family and this is the price we pay. We may be powerful, but we also need to make sure we are accepted by the others. Don’t forget, son, that there are many people who would love to see us fail.”

After a short silence, Kail said to his father quietly, “There is something I want to tell you. There is a woman that means a lot to me, Father.”

After listening to Kail’s story, Rolf thought deeply before giving his blessing. Kail became curious because he expected his father to be against the idea.

“How is it that you are okay with this?”

Rolf looked at Kail lovingly.

“If I were a perfect blameless man, I would’ve been against the idea of accepting an adopted Asian girl into our family. But my son, I have made so many mistakes in my life, and the biggest mistake was not protecting your mother Hannah. On top of that, I didn’t realize what kind of woman Ingrid really was. I was an ignorant man and I married her. These are irreparable mistakes and I have lived with the guilt all my life. As I am getting closer to my death, I have decided that I may not be able to go back in time to fix everything, but I should at least try my best not to make any more regrettable mistakes. That is why I won’t stand against you and that girl’s happiness.”

Rolf was truly devoted to Kail. He added, “My son, I know that you are different than other young men. It must be because of the primitive blood in your body. I am glad you found a woman with the same wilderness in her. You are like a wolf that lives to love only one. If you lose your soulmate, you will die slowly, just like Hannah and I did. I know without a doubt that you will live to love your woman and your child till you die. I won’t stop you from such a wonderful life.”

Rolf patted Kail’s head.

“Now, go to your love, son.”

Kail listened silently. Rolf was looking at him hopefully, expecting Kail to show his deep gratitude, but Kail didn’t say a word.

Kail thought to himself.

‘Despite what she did to my mother, you will never punish Ingrid for it. I know what kind of man you are. I know it very well, Father.’

Kail knew not to expect too much from his father. He just smiled gloomily.
