Chapter 573 - 32: Keep Moving Forward

Chapter 573: Chapter 32: Keep Moving Forward

Kalsa’s face turned even paler, her lips slightly trembling. Lynch’s words were like the sharpest ice spikes, piercing through the last shred of luck. She gazed at the spiral staircase before her, resembling a path to Hell, and the endless darkness seemed even more menacing at this moment.

"So... what should we do?" Kalsa’s voice carried a tinge of barely perceptible despair. Knowing it was a trap, yet there was no way back.

Lynch’s gaze shifted again towards the deep darkness above the staircase, his voice regained its previous calmness but with an undeniable determination: "Keep going."

"Keep going?" Kalsa was startled.

"Only by reaching the end can we discern his true purpose." Lynch’s voice revealed no fluctuation, as cold as metal.

Kalsa fell silent.

To keep climbing, one must decipher the corroding force within the staircase, thereby acquiring the knowledge of the Decaying Domain.

This had to be done personally, there was no way to delegate it. Just like earlier, though Lynch helped her resolve the crisis and cracked the corroding force in the stone steps, it also prevented her from obtaining the domain knowledge within the steps.

But having only reached this far, she was already on the brink of despair, she had no confidence to keep advancing.

Kalsa said, "I’ll just stop here."

Lynch looked at her, then nodded: "That’s fine."

Kalsa’s strength was among the weakest of the eight Mystical Wizards, to keep going would make it impossible to reach the end and she would only be devoured by the corroding force on the steps if she had no means to save her life...

It would definitely be a dead end.

Kalsa forced out a slight smile: "Then, I leave the rest to you, Saphieros Wizard, please make sure to reach the end!"

If based on the current hypothesis, then unless someone successfully reaches the end and gains the complete Domain Inheritance to break this Trial Road, they are destined to be devoured by the staircase.

Lynch nodded: "I’ll try my best."

He turned his head, his gaze falling forward to the seemingly endless staircase.

In reality, he hadn’t finished speaking with Kalsa.

What he speculated now was also purely derived from the observed circumstances, yet he vaguely guessed that Rotten Wood Elder harbored some deeper intentions behind this, but what exactly could it be...

A domain lured these Mystical wizards here with such painstaking efforts, would it really let them easily reach the end and unravel the setup?

Shaking his head, Lynch dismissed the chaotic thoughts from his mind.

In fact, before this trial began, everyone knew that Rotten Wood Elder’s motivations were not pure, after all, the other side had a notorious reputation as a Black Wizard, being so generous in offering the Domain Inheritance without some hidden agenda... who would believe that?

Everyone remained here originally out of greed for that precious Domain Inheritance, right?

Risk and reward have always coexisted.

Since the mental preparation for adventure had already been made, there was nothing more to say now.

Lifting his leg, Lynch continued ascending.

...

Meanwhile, the Tower of Decay, Decaying Hall.

The Crystal Ball hovered, spinning above Altonia’s withered palm, with the thick gray-green mist inside as dense as a living quagmire.

The dark red core had swelled to the size of a walnut by now, and every pulse seemed to tug at the energy of the entire sphere, emitting an ending aura that made the soul tremble. The dark red glow pierced through the mist, reflecting Altonia’s stooped figure like a specter crawling out from Hell, casting twisted, flickering shadows on the massive tendrils behind him.

"Zhi... zz..."

A faint sound, like energy overload, emanated from within the Crystal Ball. Altonia’s once deep ink-green eyes were now stained with the same ominous dark red veins as the core.

He stared intently at the Crystal Ball, his cracked lips moving silently, breathing became abruptly rapid, each inhalation marked by a pathological greed, as if wanting to inhale the roiling decay mist into his lungs.

"Soon... soon..." His voice was no longer hoarse and dry but became sharp and broken, filled with an ineffable excitement and neuroticism, "Resonance... critical... I can feel it... It’s calling! It’s craving!"

His claw-like fingers clenched sharply, nails dug deep into the deceptively hard yet living tissue-like pulsing surface of the Crystal Ball. The dark red core inside the Crystal Ball throbbed violently! The entire hall’s atmosphere seemed to shudder along with it.

"Decay! The taste of decay!"

Altonia sharply lifted his head, his hood sliding off slightly, revealing a face as eroded as weathered rock, now distorted with extreme excitement. He spread his arms, as if embracing an intangible presence, emitting a hoarse laughter from his throat:

"Ahaha! How... that’s so intense! So... pure! This is... the end of all things! It’s... the ultimate sweetness!"

His words became fragmented and disjointed, logic entangled, filled with a pathological obsession with decay itself.

"Strength... flowing... rules... branding... it’s all here! All in the ’heart’!"

"Struggle! Burn! Use your wisdom...use your life...ignite it! Ignite this terminal spark!"

"Look! What a wonderful ’spark’! Particularly... that seed of time! He... he is simply... the perfect ’fuse’! His ’understanding’... his ’order’... can ignite the deepest ’chaos’! Haha!"

His emaciated body trembled slightly from excitement, the emanating aura of decay became uncontrolled, turning violent and filled with aggression, causing the peculiar gray wooden floor beneath to moan intolerably, accelerating in cracking and weathering.

This sudden, nearly frenzied transformation, caused a strong unease among the two hidden within the shadows of the Tower of Order.

The large bloodshot eye of the Eye Grass "Insightful" contracted sharply, viscous liquid uncontrollably seeped from the corners, issuing a terrified hiss: "Al... Altonia! Your spirit fluctuations... too intense! It’ll affect the ’heart’s stability! It... it’s still in the drawing phase, needs pure ’branding,’ not... not this chaotic fervor!"

The shadow beneath Karija’s hood rippled violently. His eternally calm and deep voice now carried a slight, unsubdued sense of heaviness and vigilance:

"Altonia! Control your emotions! The ’Heart of Decay’ is not fully matured, excessive stimulation may trigger an unpredictable rule rampage! The ’Eternal Hourglass’ plan cannot be compromised!" He instinctively stepped back a little, the hand beneath his gray robe seemingly cautiously gripping a hidden protective item.

However, Altonia turned a deaf ear to their warnings. All his attention had already been completely captured by the Crystal Ball, or rather by the throbbing dark red core within.

"Stability? Rule rampage?" Altonia suddenly turned his head, his green and dark red intertwined eyes stared fixedly at Karija and the Eye Grass, a bizarre smile stretching across his face, revealing pale teeth:

"What do you... understand? You... puppets of order! You only desire a ’controllable’ vessel! A... tool!"
