Chapter 1296: Chapter 518: The Obelisk

"Before officially starting work, I need to introduce you to two colleagues."

Vinard’s tone became formal:

"They are the highest-ranking managers in this colony besides me, and your most important partners in future work."

"Alister, Ella, please come to the academy."

Vinard said softly to the array.

His voice was transmitted to a distant place through space folding.

In less than half a minute, two figures slowly appeared from the light.

The first to walk out was a tall middle-aged male Wizard.

His appearance gives the first impression of "precision."

Every strand of hair is neatly combed, the dark blue robe is without a crease, and even his walking steps maintain a strict rhythm.

"Alister Reynard, Dark Sun Level Wizard, and a senior Associate Professor of the ’Tower of Vibrations.’"

Vinard briefly introduced, with a clear sense of pride in his tone:

"My most accomplished student and the chief technology officer of this colony."

Alister stepped forward and gave Vinard an apprentice’s salute.

"Master."

His voice was deep and steady:

"The efficiency of Reactor No. 7 has increased by 0.3 percent, the new catalyst ratio has completed final testing."

Even a greeting must be accompanied by a work report.

This close-to-stereotypical meticulousness immediately reminded Ron of certain old scholars.

In stark contrast to Alister was the female Wizard beside him.

Ella’s appearance was like a spring breeze blowing over a winter snowfield.

Chestnut long hair cascaded like a waterfall behind her shoulders, with strands of flame-like red hair dancing through it.

This was a signature characteristic of the Elemental Garden Wizards.

"Ella, my partner."

Alister’s tone softened subtly at the mention of his wife:

"She oversees the ecological balance and welfare management of the colony."

Ella gracefully walked towards Vinard, slightly bowing:

"Teacher, you look well. How is the effect of the new Energy Regulation System?"

"Very good." Vinard nodded in confirmation, then turned to Ron:

"Now, let me introduce you to our new colleague."

Vinard’s tone carried a hint of boastful pride:

"Alister, this is Lecturer Ron Ralph.

A consultant with an ’artistic’ rather than ’engineering’ insight into the field of cognition."

This introduction immediately positioned Ron as divergent from the mainstream technical style of the colony.

Ron could feel a subtle change in the air.

Alister’s gaze became sharp.

Every detail from the robe, accessories, to the Magic Power waves of the young man before him was observed and analyzed minutely.

"Lecturer Ralph."

He bypassed all pleasantries and got straight to the point:

"I have read your report, the theory about ’Soul Symphony’ is indeed... imaginative."

He frowned: "But I wish to ask a practical question."

Alister took out a measuring device from his robe:

"How do you quantify the ’minor fifth intervals’ of ’despair’? What is its energy frequency in Hertz? How do you calculate the specific parameters of the spiritual wave’s amplitude?"

He held the measuring device up between the two:

"Without precise data, artistic metaphors are meaningless in Alchemy.

Emotions may be delightful, but they won’t drive reactors, optimize Rune Arrays, or enhance the colony’s actual benefits."

These remarks almost labeled Ron’s theory as "useless."

The surrounding air grew tense.

Vinard watched the "academic confrontation" with keen interest, showing no intention of intervening.

Ella lightly furrowed her brows, clearly worried about her husband’s directness.

But Ron’s face showed no trace of panic.

He looked at the measuring device in Alister’s hand, even his lips curled slightly into a smile:

"Associate Professor Alister, your question is interesting."

Ron did not rush to refute but seriously thought for a few seconds first:

"But I would like to ask you a question first. Can you measure the harmony of music using that precision instrument?"

Without hesitation, Alister responded:

"Of course. By analyzing the frequency ratios of sound waves, we can accurately determine the consonance of any interval."

"Then." Ron continued to question:

"Would the same frequency note produce the same emotional effect in different musical contexts?"

This question made Alister frown slightly.

He certainly knew the answer was no.

The same note is a victory horn in a lively march, a heavy sigh in a sorrowful requiem.

"We cannot use a ruler to measure the harmony of notes."

Ron’s logic became clearer:

"We perceive its meaning through its relationship with the tonic. While parameters are important, what determines its nature is ’relationship’ and ’tendency.’"

He gently closed his silver pocket watch:

"The parameters of ’despair’ are not constant values; they depend on the intensity of their desire to be resolved by ’hope,’ the ’tonic.’

"When the intensity of despair is X, and the concentration of hope in the environment is Y, the ’resolution tendency’ follows a dynamic functional relationship."

Ron began to draw formulas in the air with Magic Power:

"This is an active relationship function, just like reaction rates not only depend on reactant concentration but also on temperature, pressure, and the presence of catalysts."
