Chapter 12 – Holiday

The day after I conquered the thicket dungeon.

I decided to take the whole day off.

Yesterday, I was late getting home from hunting Poison Slime and fighting the boss.

I went home while chatting with Serika, apologized to my mother for worrying her, took a bath, ate a meal, and lay down on my bed.

It was almost noon the next day when I woke up.

I guess I’ll take the day off from exploring.

“…Well, I guess it’s just the right opportunity.”

Yesterday’s dungeon clearing increased my skills to an astonishing degree.

In addition, there is the “Book of Secrets, The First Volume,” which I received as a special condition reward.

It is an item that, if you use it, you can gain 4000 SP.

Since it was such a valuable item, I considered redeeming it for cash.

However, a check of the transactions on the auction site showed that there was no history of the sale or purchase of such an item as the Book of Secrets.

If I were to put a price on it, it might be worth millions or even tens of millions, but it would be difficult to find a sales channel for it.

It would be a waste to let it rot, so I decided to use the Book of Secrets myself after all.

If I had 4000 SP, I might be able to raise the S.Lv of ‘Escape.’

Now I have 4191 SP in my possession.

Unfortunately, however, I could not raise the S.Lv of ‘Escape.’

I think I have said this before, but the SP required for the next S.Lv up will not be known until I save the required amount.

If the required SP is 10000, it means that I can choose to level up only when I have saved up 10000.

However, although ‘Escape’ could not be leveled up, once 4,000 SP are saved, powerful skills that had not been considered before can be acquired.

Skill──────────────────

Item Box 1

You can store items in the subspace.

The size of the subspace is a cube with one side of (S.Lv x 1.5) meters.

────────────────────

Skill──────────────────

Knowledge of the First Battle 1

Increases Attack Power and Magic Power by 1.5 times for (S.Lv x 10) seconds after the start of the battle. After the effect time elapses, Attack Power and Magic Power are reduced by 2/3 for (S.Lv x 10) seconds.

────────────────────

Skill──────────────────

Fast Chanting 1

Casting time is shortened by (S.Lv x 10) %.

────────────────────

SP needed to acquire ‘Item Box’ is 400.

The SP for ‘Knowledge of the First Battle’ is 800.

‘Fast Chanting’ is 1600.

The cost is high, but it is worth it.

After much deliberation, I acquired these three skills.

My remaining SP is 1391.

I want to use it to upgrade the skills I have acquired so far.

The skill with 100 SP can be leveled up to skill level 2 by spending 400 SP.

Incidentally, after that, it is said that 1600 SP will get you to skill level 3, and 6400 SP will get you to skill level 4.

Beyond that, there is nothing in the wiki.

For skills that require 400, 800, or 1600 SP to acquire, you need a lot of SP to level up the skill.

For example, ‘Fast Chanting,’ which I learned this time, seems to require 6400 SP just to raise the skill level to 2.

Anyway, this time, I used 400 SP each to raise three skills to level 2.

To be more specific, they are ‘HP enhancement,’ ‘Defense Enhancement,’ and ‘Magic Power Enhancement.’

As I mentioned before, the ability value bonus for acquiring a skill is granted in the same amount as the SP required to acquire it.

For ‘Fire Magic’ that requires 100 SP to acquire, a bonus of 50 each is given to MP and Magic Power, for a total of 100.

However, only skills that enhance ability values receive a bonus of 1.2 times the SP expended.

So, for example, if I take ‘Magic Power Enhancement’ with 100 SP, my Magic Power will be increased by 120.

However, the bonus is worth the extra cost, and there is no “effect as a skill” like other skills.

If I get ‘Fire Magic,’ I will be able to use fire magic, but it does not mean that I will be able to use magic with ‘Magic Power Enhancement’ alone.

In general, skills that enhance ability values are unpopular.

Rather than taking a skill that does nothing, it is better to take a skill that is more directly useful.

Even if you have extra SP, it is said that you should not take skills that enhance ability values but save them for future skill level-ups.

Normally, I think that’s the right thing to do.

‘The skill “HP Enhancement” is now at level 2.’

‘The skill “Defense Enhancement” is now at level 2.’

‘The skill “Magic Power Enhancement” is now at level 2.’

This added 400 x 1.2 = 480 bonuses to HP, Defense, and Magic Power, respectively.

This is a lifeline for me as I don’t level up.

However, due to the ‘Escape’ correction, HP increases by only 80% of that amount and Defense by only 40% of that amount.

────────────────────

Based on an “average explorer” with a base ability value of all 10, even the lowest value of Defense would be equivalent to level 31.

When it comes to Agility and Luck… yeah, that’s crazy.

However, I have only a few days of experience as an explorer.

It is better not to challenge a high-ranked dungeon out of the blue.

Besides, even if I don’t force myself to challenge a high-ranked dungeon, I can get more ‘tasty’ bonuses if I can fulfill special conditions.

The details of the special conditions are unknown, but based on the conditions I achieved yesterday, there should be some conditions, such as “clearing a dungeon of x rank or higher at level x or lower” or “defeating 400 of the species: xx in a row.

As a matter of fact, the next dungeon I will go to has already been decided.

I already have all the skills I need for it.

It’s a pain that I’m short of money and don’t have any money to spend on equipment, but with such a boost in ability values, the compensation from equipment is just a margin of error.

If I wanted to buy proper equipment, it would cost me enough to build a house.

Let’s hope I can find good equipment in the dungeon.

“Oh, I’ll go sell the gummies.”

Thanks to ‘Escape,’ I’m broke, but I have plenty of Potion Gummies and other drop items in my possession.

It’s quicker to sell these consumable items in the item store than it is to sell them on an auction site.

Since they are the lowest-grade items, they should not be conspicuous when sold.

I went to the shopping mall for lunch.

When I entered the Explorer’s store in the mall, I found that there was a customer in front of me in the small store.

The customer seemed to be having a problem with the clerk behind the counter.

“I’m sorry, Dear Customer. Unfortunately, we don’t have that kind of product in our store.”

The clerk’s words were polite, but there was a hint of annoyance behind his business smile.

“Can’t you do something about that?”

The one who is insisting is a petite girl in a school uniform.

…It’s the uniform of the junior high school I graduated from.

But she doesn’t look like a local junior high school student you’d see in the neighborhood.

The girl wears a blistering casquette cap on her head and light-colored sunglasses.

It seems she’s trying to hide her appearance.

I can tell by looking at her that she is not overly self-conscious.

Her hair, sticking out of the hat, is a string of smooth gold.

Her skin is remarkably white, and her face is well-shaped.

Even through her sunglasses, you can tell that she is quite good-looking.

Even the plain navy blue sailor uniform of the local junior high school looks like an outfit for an innocent idol photo shoot when worn by this girl.

I’m a grown man, so I don’t make a fuss about local junior high school students, but even so, this girl was so beautiful that I couldn’t help but look at her.

“Excuse me, but I think you are looking in the wrong place. Precious items such as elixirs are not sold wholesale in the Explorer’s store.”

“No way…! Then what should I do…?”

“You will have to submit a request to a well-known guild or ask an explorer who already has the item to sell it to you.”

“If I make a request, will they get it for me?”

“It depends on the fee, but even if someone succeeds in getting it, it could take several months.”

“S-several months…!”

“The explorer who has the elixir must be of a high level, even if you ask them to sell it to you. It is a trump card in case of emergency, so I think they will demand a considerable amount of money.”

“H-how much would it be…?”

“Ah yeah. When the elixir was previously listed on an auction site, the winning bid exceeded 50 million yen, I believe.”

“Fi-fifty million yen?”

“That’s how difficult it is to obtain.”

“Ugh… I understand. I am sorry for asking so much of you…”

“N-no… I’m sorry I couldn’t help you.”

The clerk apologized by lowering his head and looking rather embarrassed.

The girl looked dejected and walked out of the store past me.

Then, the clerk noticed me,

“I apologize for keeping you waiting. How may I help you today?”

“Oh, I’d like to sell some of my items…”

I finished selling the dropped items, though I was concerned about the girl.
