Chapter 173 – Base Defense Excessive Slime x3
I catch the slime that came out, and,
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry… was it too tight?”
I say to it in a soothing voice.
“PUGIII.”
“You say you don’t mind being cramped? Oh, you’re mad because I didn’t pay attention to you. I’m sorry.”
And I pat the little slime.
The fact that she trembles is proof that she is happy.
“Are you Clotho?”
“PIGIII!”
Judging by the fact that she protests strongly, it seems to be a mistake.
“Was it Lachesis? Sorry, sorry, I still can’t tell you apart. What about Clotho?”
I look into my sports bag while holding the slime that popped out (Lachesis).
There, I see a slime that looks limp.
“W-what’s wrong? Are you sick?”
“PUU… GII…”
“What? Are you getting carsick?”
Well, it’s not really a vehicle; it’s a bag.
Even though they’re smaller than normal slimes, it was probably a bad idea to leave two of them in the same bag.
…Or rather, I’m surprised that slime has something like semicircular channels.
“Why is Lachesis fine?”
“PIII, PIII, PUGII.”
“You mean you’re not as delicate as Clotho? Even though you’re mini slimes with the same skill composition, there are individual differences like that?”
“PIII, PIIGI.”
“Even humans are the same, you say? Haha, you got me there.”
I gently picked up Clotho and placed it on the sofa in the living room.
…Well, it’s time for me to explain.
These two mini-slimes were created by me using the management function of the Thicket Dungeon.
There’s actually one more, but I left her in my room at home.
I’ve never fought a mini slime monster before, but looking at the history of the Thicket Dungeon (Kusuzawa South Dungeon), it seems that mini slimes used to appear naturally.
After some time, the DP from the natural generation was accumulated, the mini slimes were reduced, and the layout was changed to one that consisted mainly of slimes.
Of course, even if mini slimes become slimes, they’re still in the weakest category.
I’d have to say it’s still the lowest of the C-rank dungeons.
…Well, it’s not something that a guy who desperately ran away from slimes in that “lowest” dungeon can say with such arrogance.
What’s interesting about the monster creation feature in the Dungeon Management system is that I can give the monsters I create new skills by investing additional DP.
However, the skills I can give them are limited to the skills I have acquired and the skills possessed by the monsters I have defeated.
However, even with these limitations, the number of skills I have acquired is quite considerable.
As a test, I chose the low-cost mini slimes and added various useful skills to them, creating three mini slimes.
The basic ability stats of mini-slimes are incredibly low, so they’re more suited for scouting than combat.
I gave them the abilities of a scout with Enemy Search, Presence Detection, Covert, and Stealth.
I gave them the ability to investigate status with Fathom, Spy, and Disguise.
I also gave them the ability to heal and survive through Self-Regeneration and Survive.
I gave them Stun Attack, Stop Paralysis Attack, and Electrocution Attack to disrupt the enemy’s actions.
Since I had the chance, I also gave them the skill Increase Ability Growth Rate, which I had never used myself.
This was to make up for their low base skill values (the skill values when they were level 1).
In terms of ability values, I also boosted HP, Agility, and Luck by raising the skill levels of HP Enhancement, Agility Enhancement, and Luck Enhancement to 5, respectively, to increase survivability by increasing HP and increasing the probability of dodging attacks.
This is the same recipe I used when I was just starting out as an explorer.
As a means of attack, I initially gave them Tentacles.
This is a skill that the ropers in the Okutama Lake Dungeon had.
However, unlike the ropers, the mini slimes don’t have any special tentacles.
Perhaps this is why they look a bit clumsy, but they can transform their bodies and use them as tentacles.
“I want to give them a skill that fits them a little better…”
The development of monster skills is still in its early stages, so I’m looking forward to seeing the results in the future.
I also made sure to add the species-specific abilities Split and Poison Spray.
I also maxed out the HP buff because using Split halves the maximum HP.
I wondered if adding Poison Spray would cause it to evolve into a poison slime, but unfortunately, that didn’t happen.
All I got was a mini slime that could use Poison Spray.
Well, from an explorer’s point of view, a mini slime that uses Poison Spray for some reason is the most disgusting thing imaginable.
Even though it prioritizes scouting and its attack power is not that great, it is still dangerous if the opponent is a non-explorer, so I also gave it the Knockout skill.
Taking advantage of its small size, I also added False Intent.
This is a skill that increases attack power by (S.Lv x 10)% against opponents that are larger than the user (with a weight more than twice that of the user). It’s the same skill that the Hobbit-type monsters in Hikarigaoka Park had.
Since the mini slime is lighter than a cat, False Intent should work on most opponents.
Of course, there are more powerful skills, but they require a lot of SP to acquire.
There are skills that reduce the time it takes to cast spells, skills that increase resistance to status effects, Solid Barrier, Magic Barrier, Short Teleport, Revive… the list goes on.
Well, since they’re not going to be used on the front lines, that should be enough for now.
I had a hard time deciding on names for these three, but I decided to call them Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos, after the three goddesses of fate.
Unlike naming secret monsters, this was simply a matter of what to call them.
At first, I thought I’d call them “Ein,” “Zwei,” and “Drei,” but I had to rack my brains after receiving protests from the three.
Since their names don’t reflect their status, it’s a bit of a problem that I can’t tell which one is which, even if I examine them closely.
If I look closely, I can see that they’re slightly different in shape or have a different shine or transparency.
…This is harder than telling the difference between male and female chicks.
Now, the reason I made these three mini-slimes is not just to experiment with the dungeon’s management functions.
“Clotho was the type who got motion sickness… Then I’ll leave the basic defense of this place to Clotho.”
“PUGII!”
Clotho raises her voice in agreement.
――That is correct.
I made three mini-slimes specializing in reconnaissance because I wanted someone to defend the base while I was gone.
In other words, I wanted to be away.
It’s not just the Public Security Bureau that’s watching me.
There are probably people who will take more drastic measures.
Like spies from overseas.
I was also worried about my family, so I left Atropos there.
When I introduced mini slime to my mother, she asked me things like, “Do I just have to give it water every day?” But I wonder how it works.
I’ve never heard of monsters eating in dungeons.
There are apparently stories of monsters flooding the surface and eating people, though.
Atropos seems to like my room, and she seems to have taken over my bed in place of the absent master.
Of course, I could have left the secret monsters there, but… they’re so conspicuous.
If I summon the Hobijinkai and leave him alone for a while, he’ll start stomping around wherever he wants, so I can’t leave him in my parents’ house, which is a two-story wooden house.
Well, even if that’s an extreme example, I’d like to take the secret monsters I have high hopes for as combat power with me on my explorations if possible.
I brought Clotho and Lachesis with me to my new apartment.
From its looks, this apartment seems like a good place to leave Clotho.
However, I also want to raise the levels of all three of them, so I plan to have them follow me in turn.
The question is, is it okay to let monsters run free (even in my own home)? But I have the Demon King’s support ability, Familiar Control.

Support Ability
Familiar Control
Slightly increases the ability stats of all targets under your control or command in any way. You can share the five senses of the target of this ability for a period of time. After sharing the five senses, you must wait a certain amount of time before sharing them again. You can use telepathy to communicate with the target over a certain distance. You can make the target obey your commands for a moment.
────────────────────
Although there are some limitations, it’s possible to share the five senses even when I’m in different places.
Telepathy doesn’t have the same limitations as the sharing of the five senses, but if I move more than a certain distance, I won’t be able to communicate.
The reason why the level of expression of this ability doesn’t seem very good is because I haven’t had a chance to use it yet.
Even if they’re non-explorers, I think these three should be able to catch them, and even if they’re explorers, they should be able to buy some time.
I don’t keep anything important at home anyway, so I’d be happier if they just got the information about the intruder and survived than if they died fighting.
That’s why I gave them Split.
“Well then, let’s go.”
I muttered, and then Lachesis jumped onto my shoulder.
I’m sure she thought we were going to the dungeon.
She seems to be breathing a little harder than usual (figuratively speaking).
I definitely feel pumped up, too.
Or rather, to put it bluntly, I’m nervous.
I took the carefully prepared items out of my Item Box.
There are three of them, each about the size of a box of tourist souvenirs.
They are all nicely wrapped.
These are the items that will be the key to this mission.
I pick one up with trembling hands and take a deep breath to calm myself.
Lachesis trembles as if confused by her master’s unusual appearance.
So, it is time to fight.
It will be a hard fight for me, who’s been a shut-in.
But I can’t do this forever.
I’ve decided to go forward.
I said to myself, “All right!”
“――Let’s go! I’ll go around and say hello to the neighbors…!”
