Chapter 30 – Counseling with God

“Giving advice? Is that okay? God seems to be such a light-footed person.”

“That would not have been the case in the past. However, nowadays, I and the other gods of the foreign lands have a different quality of existence than before. For better or for worse, it is the influence of the dungeons.”

If dungeons are allowed in this world, then the gods who (apparently) existed in this world from the beginning must be considered a possibility.

It would not be surprising if God’s power has increased in this crazy modern world where dungeons have become so much a part of everyday life.

“God can’t just sit back and take it easy when the world is in such a state of turmoil.”

“Are you saying that God is trying to do something about the situation?”

“Yes, that’s right. But the ancient concept of “God” is a very fixed one. God does not directly exercise power on earth, and that is how the sons of man perceive God. Even the most devout believers admit that miracles are rarely performed.”

“Aha. In short, you can’t escape the old-fashioned view of God.”

“Hohoho… that is a good understanding. That’s why I thought it would be better to help the sons of man in a roundabout way like this shrine…”

“Unfortunately, it’s not nearly as well known as it should be.”

“That’s not true.”

“Uh, is some of it known?”

“No. It is not mostly unknown. It is completely unknown. Hihihi!”

“It’s no laughing matter, is it?”

“It can’t be helped. It has not happened since the dawn of the human world that God helps people. People have the common sense that God cannot help them.”

Well, that’s true, isn’t it?

I nodded without saying anything.

“Therefore, it is necessary to go through complicated arrangements for God to help people. It is only when a unique situation arises that a person is convinced that a miracle is possible, or at least that something miraculous is possible if the special conditions are met. You can think of some of those, can’t you?”

“You mean special conditions…!”

“Yes. But have you ever wondered why fulfilling special conditions would bring you special rewards?”

“That’s what I thought at first. If there is such a thing as a dungeon, I wouldn’t be surprised if something like that existed.”

“Hmm. In this way, the bar is lowered for miracles to… happen. Since it is only through the efforts of the sons of man that it is possible to lower the standard, it is not something that we as God are ashamed of.”

“I didn’t know it worked that way…”

“But you do. There are many difficulties with this method.”

“…Well, the conditions are too specific and difficult to meet.”

Anyone who tries to clear a dungeon at a low level in real life, especially in a game, is just a fool.

It is impossible to defeat a boss monster with a single blow unless you have a very powerful unique skill.

“This shrine is just another foundation for miracles to happen to the sons of men.”

“I mean, what am I supposed to do in this shrine?”

“It is as you have done. A shrine is a place of worship. You can thank God, but it would be more convenient to make a specific wish for a miracle later.”

“Oh, so I can take the form that what I asked God for at that time came true?”

“Umu. You can wish for as much as you want. But if you wish too much, the foundation for a miracle will be weaker.”

“You mean I should wish for one thing at a time, with all my heart and soul.”

‘I want to be either a professional baseball player or an astronaut!’ It’s easier to work miracles if you focus on one or the other before you pray instead of wishing like that.

“You threw your money into the box without hesitation. This action created a strong cause and effect. You have fulfilled a number of special conditions so far, so it is even better. Therefore, you can now communicate directly with my embodiment.”

“I see…”

“But it is also true that we do not have much time. You are troubled by something, aren’t you? You can consult with me.”

“In that case…”

There are several things I would like to discuss.

But from what I’ve heard, I think it’s better to narrow down the questions.

Is it the elixir I want? That’s a little too narrow.

“I want to know how to get the third drop item that appears in the Appraisal status.”

How about that level of specificity?

“Hmm. That is a very specific question, but unfortunately, God cannot give a specific answer.”

The God shook her head.

“An oracle is always vague. But if it is a real oracle, it always contains an answer. The reason why false oracles are ambiguous… Isn’t it obvious?”

“Well, it’s because it’s easier to fool the oracle when it’s ambiguous.”

“That’s right. What I am about to tell you is, of course, a real oracle. The fact that it is ambiguous makes it difficult to recognize it as a fake, but consider it unavoidable.”

“I understand.”

I nodded my head, and God closed her eyes for a moment,

“…Umu. You have some unfinished business, don’t you?”

“Unfinished business?”

“It’s important to move on, but sometimes it’s good to reflect on what you’ve learned so far, isn’t it?”

“The knowledge I’ve gained so far…”

Instead of taking on the challenge of an unknown dungeon, I should use the knowledge I have gained from my previous explorations.

In other words, the key to solving the problem lies in what I’ve seen and heard so far.

“…Come to think of it, I haven’t done that yet.”

I had a flash of inspiration.

“…You seem to have found your way.”

“Yes, that’s a big help.”

“If you ever get lost again, come to me. But you will have to accumulate the right amount of miracles before you can speak to me directly.”

With these words, God disappeared.

What did God’s clues lead to?

You may be wondering, but the first thing I did was attack the dungeon I’m in.

I entered the portal at the back of the dungeon shrine and went to the seventh floor of the Tengumine Shrine dungeon.

The strategy for the seventh floor was the same.

I hunted only the Red Oni and ignored the others.

I just kept running forward and hurried on.

After taking the long way around and hunting more Red Oni, I checked my SP.

This time, I didn’t learn any skills along the way, so I can say approximately how many Red Oni were defeated by the saved SP.

The reason I say “approximately” is that the SP gained is sometimes 5x, sometimes 6x, depending on the level of the Red Oni, and the calculation is tedious.

It should be easy to figure out by solving a quadratic equation, but there is nothing wrong with earning a little extra.

“Now it’s time to go to the boss’s room.”

I pushed open the large double doors at the far end of the seventh floor.

Inside is the usual underground arena-like domed room, but this time… the ceiling is much higher than usual.

The ceiling is so high that a five-story building could easily fit inside.

In the middle of the room is a monster the size of a building.
