Zombie Apocalypse: I Have Safe Zone Superpower

Chapter 398: Weakness

Chapter 398: Chapter 398: Weakness

Ivy was not the only variable. Her partner, Silas, was another potential threat. Though merely a thunder-type superpower user, his possessiveness made him dangerous.

Joel’s fingers tapped against the table.

"Better to plan ahead," he muttered.

Meanwhile, Hannah returned to Arthur’s room.

Arthur was already pacing when she entered, his expression dark. Jealousy burned in his eyes. Lately, he had watched Hannah grow closer to the base leader, and it left a bitter taste in his mouth.

She had once flattered him endlessly.

Now, it felt like she had found new toys.

"Where did you go?" Arthur muttered, unable to hide his dissatisfaction as he stared at her.

Hannah knew this was her moment to act.

She dropped into the seat with a soft thud, the faint scrape of the chair legs echoing in the tense air, and declared, "I have a plan."

Arthur’s head snapped up instantly.

His tired eyes lit with anticipation, and his posture straightened as if someone had poured life back into his veins.

’If Hannah was speaking now, it couldn’t be anything ordinary,’ he thought. ’It had to be explosive. It had to be good.’

Meanwhile, far away from them, Helena and Victor stood shoulder to shoulder, silent, as they stared down at the thick stack of reports spread across the table.

The sterile scent of paper and ink hung heavily in the room.

Their expressions darkened almost in unison, and both of them inhaled deeply, as though bracing themselves against an invisible weight pressing down on their chests.

This was the decision they had avoided for years.

Helena slowly folded the report, the crisp sound unnaturally loud in the quiet room.

’We truly are unlucky,’ she thought, her fingers tightening around the pages.

Victor met her gaze and gave a small, resolute nod.

Without another word, the two of them turned and made their way toward Ivy’s room.

Ivy was still adjusting to the strange sensations coursing through her body, the subtle hum of power under her skin, when the door opened.

The moment she saw Helena and Victor standing there, she straightened instinctively.

"What are you doing here?" she blurted out, her voice carrying both curiosity and unease.

Helena and Victor exchanged a hesitant glance. Victor’s jaw tightened, while Helena clasped her hands together, her palms slightly damp.

After a brief pause, Helena spoke, her voice careful and restrained.

"There’s something we need to tell you. And... we hope you can take it the right way."

Ivy froze. A strange chill crept up her spine, and she swallowed before responding.

"Is it something that will hurt me?"

Helena sighed softly, her gaze dropping for a moment before lifting again.

"What we’re about to tell you might explain many things," she said slowly. "Your past life’s suffering. The strange incidents you’ve experienced. Even... why you resemble us by only five percent."

Ivy’s breath hitched. Her heart began to pound against her ribs, loud enough that she was sure they could hear it.

’Explain my life?’ She leaned forward unconsciously, her eyes locked onto Helena. "Go on."

Before continuing, Helena glanced toward the door, then back at Ivy.

"Before we say anything else, it would be better if no one other than you is here," she said quietly.

"This matter is extremely confidential. Even now, we’re not completely sure we should tell you. Knowing the truth might put you in danger."

Ivy lifted her hand in a firm gesture, her fingers trembling just slightly. "No one is here. I want to know," she insisted. "Please."

Helena nodded, her voice lowering. "There are things we’ve hidden from you. One of them is this, when you were still a fetus, you couldn’t survive."

The room seemed to tilt.

Helena continued, each word heavy.

"At that time, we were involved in a confidential experiment conducted in Country R."

Ivy remained silent, her nails digging into her palm as she waited.

Helena sat down beside her, the mattress dipping under her weight, and her eyes grew distant. ’Those days...’ she thought.

Back then, Helena had been driven by her desire to serve her country.

She had completed countless research projects, each one earning praise from higher authorities.

Time and time again, she had proven her loyalty. Victor, too, had demonstrated exceptional talent, standing beside her as both a partner and an equal.

Their contributions did not go unrewarded.

The country granted them a private villa, and they patented multiple research that ensured they would never suffer financially.

In fact, they had grown so wealthy that surpassing any of the top ten richest families in the country would have been effortless.

Everything changed when they were assigned to that confidential project.

The negotiations with Country R had taken years, and only a handful of the most trusted individuals were sent there.

When Helena and Victor finally arrived, they learned the true nature of the research.

It involved an alien... or more precisely, a captured being that did not truly belong to Earth.

At first glance, the being looked almost human.

He didn’t match the grotesque images people associated with aliens.

The only obvious difference was his height. He stood nearly six feet five inches tall, towering over most humans.

His skin was unnaturally pale, and his hair cascaded down his back in long, silky strands, so much so that one might mistake him for a woman at first glance.

What stunned them the most was his intelligence.

The being constantly struggled against his restraints, his sharp eyes filled with hostility.

When Helena and Victor first met his gaze, it was as if he saw them as enemies.

At the time, they didn’t understand why. They assumed it was merely hatred toward an unfamiliar race.

Initially, they even believed he might be human.

But as the experiments progressed, they realized how wrong they were.

The being possessed extraordinary healing abilities. His physiology was far more advanced than any human’s.

The only reason they managed to contain him was because they discovered his weakness, one that could render him completely powerless.

At this point, Ivy couldn’t hold back anymore. Her heart thudded violently as she asked, "What was his weakness?"
