Chapter 420: Lina And Ivy

Chapter 420: Chapter 420: Lina And Ivy

Jay didn’t laugh. Something inside him had changed.

Before, he believed he loved his work and Ember equally.

Now, he realized that without Ember, everything else was meaningless. In every scene where he lost her, his research, his ambitions, his achievements all turned hollow.

’If Ember isn’t with me... I want nothing.’

So he made his decision.

If only one thing truly mattered, then that would be his priority.

Ember.

He pulled back slightly, then leaned down and kissed her, fiercely, as if there truly was no tomorrow. The urgency in his kiss startled her, but after a heartbeat of surprise, she responded, wrapping her arms around him.

For a moment, Ember wondered, ’Did he eat some kind of stimulant? Why is he acting like a cat in heat?’

Despite the complaint forming in her mind, her heart swelled with secret joy. This was rare. Jay rarely initiated like this.

Soon, however, she felt his intensity grow overwhelming and lightly tapped his hand. "Jay..."

Reluctantly, he parted, though he didn’t let her go. Instead, he pulled her into his arms again, holding her so tightly it felt as if he wanted to merge their bones together.

Ember’s heart raced wildly, her knees nearly giving way. If he hadn’t been holding her, she might have collapsed right there.

"I really don’t know why you’re so worked up," she muttered, breathless.

Jay murmured near her ear, "Do you even realize how beautiful my wife is?" His voice was low and serious. "I’m afraid someone will steal you away."

Ember laughed and patted his head. "You really know how to joke."

But Jay wasn’t joking.

He was genuinely terrified that destiny itself would snatch her from him.

Without warning, he scooped her up in a bridal carry. Though his body wasn’t the strongest, weeks of training and enhanced conditioning had given him enough strength to lift her easily.

Ember gasped, stunned, instinctively wrapping her arms around his neck.

"Jay!"

He walked toward the door with steady steps, while Ember stared at him in disbelief, her mind struggling to catch up.

"What... what is happening right now?"

She tapped lightly against his bicep, her fingers pressing insistently as she tried to wriggle free.

"Put me down," she protested, her voice half flustered, half embarrassed.

Jay didn’t even slow his steps. His grip remained firm, steady, as if she weighed nothing at all.

"Just enjoy the ride," he murmured calmly, his breath warm against her hair. "I already have the household registry at my lab. I’ll grab it, and then we’ll go register our marriage."

For a moment, Ember’s mind went completely blank.

’Household registry... at his lab?’

She stared at him in disbelief, her thoughts scrambling to catch up. Before she could voice her confusion properly, Jay let out a soft laugh, the sound low and relaxed against her ear.

"I planned it earlier," he added gently. "I thought we’d get the license right away after my next achievement."

Ember let out a long sigh, equal parts exasperation and warmth filling her chest. ’This man... always planning things quietly.’ Despite herself, a small smile tugged at her lips. She felt strangely happy, even reassured.

Soon, they arrived at Jay’s office.

Along the way, countless eyes followed them. People slowed, stared, whispered, their gazes lingering on the absurd yet intimate sight of Jay carrying Ember so openly. It felt unreal, like some dramatic scene torn straight out of a movie.

Ember’s face burned.

Mortified, she buried her head against Jay’s chest, hiding herself from the world. The faint, clean scent of him surrounded her, mixed with warmth and something unmistakably comforting.

Only after pressing against him did she realize something else.

’He’s... stronger than he looks.’

His chest was firm, his arms solid, and beneath her cheek, she could feel lean muscle shifting naturally with every step. His bicep, supporting her weight so easily, made her heartbeat stutter.

For a fleeting second, a mischievous thought crossed her mind.

Before she could stop herself, she leaned back slightly and, without hesitation, lightly ran her tongue along the skin at the edge of his pecs.

Jay froze mid-step.

A sharp rush of heat shot through him, his breath hitching almost imperceptibly. For a brief moment, every rational thought threatened to scatter.

’She’s trying to kill me.’

His jaw tightened as he forced himself to stay composed. No matter how badly his body reacted, he refused to scare her or lose control now.

’Not yet. We still have a marriage to register.’

Without a word, he quickly borrowed a car from the base. The engine roared to life, and they soon headed straight for the military administrative office.

The process was swift, almost surreal. Names were written, confirmations made, and just like that, it was done.

They were married.

By the time they returned to the building, Ember was still completely dazed. She stared out the window, fingers subconsciously tightening around Jay’s sleeve.

’I really... got married just like that?’

She never imagined it would happen so suddenly, so decisively. Her heart felt light yet overwhelmed, as if reality hadn’t quite settled in yet.

Jay glanced at her from the corner of his eye, his grip gentle but possessive, and a quiet certainty filled his chest.

’This time... I won’t let go.’

Ivy visited the prison with a sense of helpless resignation weighing on her shoulders.

The moment she learned about Lina’s case, a dull ache throbbed at her temples, as if a headache had been waiting patiently for this very moment.

Of course, she remembered Lina.

There had been many people in Ivy’s life who showed kindness at one point, only to betray her later.

Lina was merely one among them.

If Lina hadn’t suddenly appeared and spoken endlessly about how she once gave Ivy food during their childhood, Ivy might not have remembered her at all.

Back then, after receiving food so many times, Ivy had almost regarded Lina as her closest friend.

Who could have imagined how things would turn out?
