Chapter 440: Silas’s Food

Chapter 440: Chapter 440: Silas’s Food

Silas stepped back in quiet satisfaction as the light in Walter’s eyes slowly dimmed.

Walter watched her, breathing shallowly, and for a fleeting moment, a strange thought crossed his mind.

’I am such an idiot... how can a woman who give up on her lover be a good woman?’

Meanwhile, Silas was thinking of something completely different.

’Once I’m done here, I’ll make food for her,’ he decided firmly. She deserves warmth, not this filth.’

After ensuring that everyone had received their punishment and after confirming that the fire in Walter’s eyes had completely died out, Silas turned away.

His expression returned to calm indifference as he walked out of the prison cell. Stopping before the guards, he spoke in a level voice, one that brooked no argument.

"When Walter finally wants to leave this place, let him go."

The guards stiffened, then nodded in unison. "Yes."

Without another glance back, Silas left the prison.

Not long after, he arrived at Ivy’s apartment.

Rolling up his sleeves, he went straight to the kitchen. This time, he didn’t restrain himself at all.

He cooked so much that the sky outside darkened before he even realized how much time had passed.

Dumpling soup simmered gently, the broth bubbling softly as he adjusted the seasoning by instinct.

Dumplings were folded one by one, the fillings pressed carefully into thin skins before being steamed and pan-fried until golden.

The noodles were boiled, rinsed, and then tossed with fragrant oil and spices.

Different pastas followed, some baked, some sautéed, and the sauces were reduced slowly until they clung thickly to each strand.

Vegetables were chopped, meats marinated, and dishes stir-fried in quick, practiced motions that filled the kitchen with rich, mouthwatering aromas.

By the time he finished, the entire evening had slipped away. The kitchen was warm, the counters crowded with food, and Silas finally paused, wiping his hands as he looked over everything he had made.

This was the scene Ivy walked into.

Warm light spilled across the kitchen, carrying with it the rich, comforting aroma of freshly cooked food.

The moment her eyes landed on Silas, standing there in an apron dusted lightly with flour and sauce stains, a smile bloomed on her face before she even realized it.

Then her gaze dropped, to the apron, to the counter, to the sheer amount of food laid out before her, and delight burst openly in her eyes.

Without hesitation, she rushed toward him and threw her arms around his waist.

"You really are the best," she murmured, her voice bright and warm, her cheek pressing against him.

Her eyes sparkled as she took in the quantity again. ’This is... so much.’

A giddy thought crossed her mind. ’If I eat carefully, this could last me an entire year.’

The idea alone made her heart flutter with joy.

But Silas’s next words froze her in place. He smiled gently, his tone casual yet firm.

"From now on, I’ll cook for you every single day. That way, you can stock up as much as you want, so don’t starve yourself anymore."

Ivy blinked, stunned. For a moment, she just stared at him, her mind struggling to catch up. Then she shook her head lightly, confusion written all over her face.

"I don’t starve myself," she insisted softly.

Silas’s smile faded. He pulled back slightly, his hands still resting on her arms, and looked at her with a seriousness that made her breath hitch.

"I saw you this afternoon," he said calmly. "You only ate half of what you took out, even though that portion was already small. Then you stored it away."

Ivy stiffened.

He continued, his eyes never leaving hers.

"And after that, you ate the food from the Nightbane family. You ate it slowly, reluctantly, like you were forcing yourself."

Her lips parted in surprise. She stared at him, her voice barely above a whisper. "That... that really happened?"

Silas nodded without hesitation.

Ivy closed her lips and lowered her gaze, her fingers curling into the fabric of his apron.

"Maybe I did it subconsciously," she muttered.

It was a lie. She knew it the moment the words left her mouth. She loved Silas’s cooking.

Loved it so much that she didn’t dare finish it, afraid that once it was gone, there would be no more.

She had been saving it deliberately, bite by bite. And now that Silas had pointed it out so plainly, she could no longer deny the truth.

Her shoulders drooped. She buried her face against his chest, her voice muffled. "Then... you’ll have to make a lot of food."

Silas let out a soft chuckle, his arms tightening around her. "I’m ready for that."

Ivy hugged him tightly, her heart swelling.

’How long can he really keep this up?’ she wondered silently. ’It’s not like he’ll be free every single day.’

She truly underestimated just how deeply Silas cared for her.

For now, he said nothing more. He simply held her and spoke softly near her ear. "So my love how was your day?"

Hearing that, Ivy chuckled. She opened her mouth to reply... only for her stomach to let out an unmistakable growl.

Silas laughed, the sound low and warm. "I think we should continue this conversation after dinner."

Ivy nodded quickly, her ears turning red.

They ate together soon after, and this time, Ivy didn’t hold back.

Knowing there would be more tomorrow, and the day after that, loosened something inside her.

She ate properly, her movements relaxed, her expression peaceful. Watching her like this, Silas finally released a breath he hadn’t realized he’d been holding.

After dinner, Ivy insisted on cleaning the dishes. "I can do it," she protested.

Silas ignored her completely and took over without another word.

Once everything was done, he reached out, took her hand, and pulled her toward the bedroom. Ivy stumbled slightly, startled.

"What’s wrong?"

Silas didn’t answer. He simply walked up to the door.

The door clicked shut, and Ivy’s breath caught.
