Chapter 458: Zombie King
Chapter 458: Chapter 458: Zombie King
Meanwhile, not all the generals fled.
A few, those who had lost their families long ago, moved toward the evacuation routes instead.
With hollow eyes and clenched jaws, they began guiding civilians toward alternate exits, pushing them forward and shouting directions over the roar of chaos.
From a distance, it might have seemed like an organized rescue.
In reality, it was anything but.
Citizens screamed and ran in all directions, trampling over one another in blind panic.
Worse still, the sheer number of people gathering in one place drew even more zombies.
Their groans grew louder, closer, echoing through the base like a death chant.
Surrounded on all sides, many civilians felt their hope collapse entirely.
’We’re going to die here,’ the thought spread from one person to another, as terror swallowed the military base whole.
Meanwhile, Ivy, who had been preparing for her marriage, received the news that the military base was completely surrounded by zombies.
Her eyes gleamed sharply, not with fear, but with resolve.
’So it’s happening sooner than expected, she thought, recalling the recent task the Temporal storage had registered under her name.
Without hesitation, she turned to her subordinates.
"Mobilize the soldiers," she ordered calmly. "We’re going to assist the military base."
A murmur rippled through the room when she continued, her voice steady.
"In exchange, we’ll take half of their population."
Silence fell. Everyone stared at Ivy in disbelief.
Their base was already expanding at an astonishing rate.
What had once been a mere ten-thousand-square-meter settlement had grown into a vast hundred-thousand-square-meter area, large enough to be called a village.
The perimeter was crowded day and night, with a line of people nearly circling the entire base, all hoping to register and be taken in.
And yet, Ivy wanted more people.
Several officers exchanged uneasy glances.
One of them drew a deep breath, clearly about to speak, when Ivy raised her hand.
"The registration is too slow," she continued. "Hire more people. I want the entire line processed within one day."
The decisiveness in her tone left no room for argument.
Martha, standing among the group, nodded slowly, along with several others.
"We’ll make it happen."
Once Martha returned to the administrative sector, she moved swiftly.
Teams were reassigned, duties reshuffled, and manpower reallocated.
After a thorough re-filtering process, the investigation team expanded from a mere fifty people to a staggering one thousand.
The number alone was enough to make even Martha pause, but both she and Ivy knew it was necessary.
With this force, they were confident they could process the registrations quickly and still send troops to assist the military base.
Soon after, Ivy set out with her soldiers, joined by members from SiIvy Base and another allied military base.
Dante marched at the front, accompanied by several generals from Ivy’s own army.
The moment they approached the military base, a wave of rot and blood assaulted their senses.
The sight before them was horrifying. The base was nearly swallowed whole, its walls crawling with zombies.
They attacked with frenzied desperation, clawing and smashing as if driven by a singular, burning purpose... to erase every trace of humanity within.
Even Ivy faltered for a brief moment.
’This isn’t right,’ she thought grimly. In her previous life, zombies had never behaved like this.
They were violent, yes, but never so unrestrained, so relentless.
’Is it because of my base?’
The thought made her chest tighten. With so many humans gathered under her protection, food for the zombies had dwindled.
’Did I push them into this desperation?’
She shook the thought away and raised her voice.
"Engage them. Now."
The soldiers surged forward.
But the longer they fought, the more unsettling the realization became.
The zombies were not retreating. Not even slightly.
Even though they their death would near them if they didn’t
Ivy frowned deeply.
Her power was passively active at all times. Zombies should have avoided her instinctively.
’So why are they still coming?’
Unease crawled up her spine.
’Have they developed resistance?’
The idea made no sense. Even after ten years in her previous life, zombies had never been able to approach her unless she triggered her condition by eating.
’And I haven’t eaten anything,’ she realized sharply.
Then the answer struck her like lightning.
"Someone is controlling them," Ivy said coldly.
The moment those words left her lips, the expressions of the surrounding commanders changed drastically.
They all knew what she was implying.
"The Zombie King..." Silas whispered.
Ivy had already warned them about the future evolution of zombies and the eventual emergence of a Zombie King.
If one had appeared already, then this wasn’t just bad news... it was catastrophic. Not only for the military base, but for her own as well.
’What if they turn toward my base next?’
The thought alone was enough to make her act immediately.
"Silas, General Dante, General Stephen," Ivy commanded. "Support the frontline here. I’m returning to the base."
Without waiting for a reply, she turned back. As she feared, several zombies had already begun wandering near her territory.
Taking a steady breath, Ivy issued orders the moment she arrived.
2"All backup units, prepare for combat."
Compared to the military base, her own settlement was eerily calm.
In fact, it seemed that an instinctive fear restrained the zombies from approaching too closely.
Even under the Zombie King’s influence, most of them hesitated, circling but refusing to advance.
Only a handful crept closer, easily dealt with by the defenders.
Back at the military base, Stephen, Dante, and Silas fought fiercely.
With reinforcements from SiIvy Base, the zombies surrounding the military were rapidly eliminated.
The soldiers who had been teetering on the edge of despair felt hope surge back into their hearts.
When they saw Ivy personally leading troops into battle, many nearly broke down in tears.
Because of SiIvy Base’s intervention, the evacuation was halted.
Citizens were reassured, guided to safety, and gradually calmed.
Chaos still lingered, but something else spread faster... gratitude.
The moment people realized that SiIvy Base had come to their aid, goodwill blossomed across the military base.
