Chapter 473: Seed
Chapter 473: Chapter 473: Seed
Standing inside the makeshift church, Silas waited. Then the door opened.
Ivy walked in.
A hush fell over the small gathering. Several guests instinctively held their breath.
Ivy looked breathtaking. Instead of a traditional white gown, she wore a pale pink wedding dress that suited her pink hair.
No one knew how she had found such a dress in the middle of an apocalypse, but it fit her perfectly.
Against her slender frame, she looked like a flower in full bloom.
Her pink hair cascaded down in soft curls, a veil draped gently over it.
For a moment, she looked like a princess pulled straight out of a fairy tale.
As she walked toward Silas, his vision blurred.
Tears welled up, impossible to hold back. There was no joking now. Ivy was someone he had prayed for countless times.
Now that his dream was becoming reality, his heart felt unbearably full.
He had never truly dared to imagine marrying her openly, fearing she might one day grow angry or distant.
Yet here she was, standing right in front of him.
The vows began.
"I do," Silas said, his voice steady despite the emotions roaring inside him.
When it was Ivy’s turn, she smiled gently. "I do."
They leaned toward each other and kissed.
This kiss sealed their fate. This kiss marked their new beginning.
Far away from the celebration, a group of researchers worked through the night.
Just the previous evening, Jay, Helena, Alice, Victor, and several others had been testing antidotes. They discovered something astonishing.
They had successfully created a cure for half-zombies.
They confirmed it by testing the antidote on Moona and Maxi.
The results were undeniable. Both returned to being fully human.
The moment they realized it, Moona and Maxi froze, then burst into tears.
Yet instead of pure joy, worry crept in among the researchers’ hearts.
Their gazes shifted toward the seeds, knowing that the real challenge had only just begun.
As an event, it had been a good decision to convert both Moona and Maxi back into normal humans.
However, the truth remained unchanged; Moona and Maxi were the ones who had presented the seed, the key ingredient of the antidote.
Without that seed, creating a complete cure was impossible. That alone proved how fragile their situation truly was.
’If they lose that ability... then everything we’ve done so far means nothing,’ Helena thought, her fingers curling tightly at her side.
Now they had to make sure that Moona and Maxi had not lost their power.
Moona and Maxi did what they had always done before. They sat down and began to eat. T
But soon, something felt wrong. Their appetite dulled quickly, their stomachs filling far too fast, just like ordinary humans. The familiar hunger that once lingered endlessly was gone.
Both of them panicked.
Moona rubbed her palms together anxiously, the skin warm but empty. Maxi did the same, her breath growing shallow.
There was no seed. They waited the entire night, the light shifting slowly across the floor, and then the entire morning, the air turning cold and heavy. Still, nothing appeared. Not even the faintest sign.
At last, Helena, Victor, Alice, and Jay gave up. Fatigue weighed on their shoulders as they turned away. They had no choice but to attend Ivy’s marriage.
After all the rituals ended and the celebrations faded into quiet exhaustion, they returned. The first thing they did was look at Moona and Maxi, silently demanding an answer.
Moona shook her head. Maxi followed, her lips pressed tightly together.
Disappointment settled over the four of them like a suffocating fog. Only then did the realization strike... they had been hasty.
They had converted Moona and Maxi back into humans without proper research, without knowing whether their abilities would remain intact.
’What do we do now?’ Alice wondered, dread coiling in his chest.
Just as that thought surfaced, Maxi suddenly felt an itch in her palm. She frowned and scratched lightly. Something warm and solid pressed against her skin. Her eyes widened.
A small seed rested in her hand.
Without hesitation, she rubbed her other palm, coaxing out another one, then rushed forward and placed it into Jay’s hand. Jay froze for a second before his face lit up with unmistakable joy.
"So it’s not gone," he breathed.
Helena, Alice, and Victor immediately crowded around, relief washing over their tense expressions. Without wasting a second, they began researching the new seed.
Then Mooona produced one as well.
That was when they noticed it, the seed provided earlier, and the ones Moona and Maxi produced now were completely different. Shape, texture, even the faint energy they emitted felt altered.
All of them shared the same hunch, but none of them dared voice it aloud.
Wonder and fear twisted together in their chests.
Afraid that hesitation might prove disastrous, they pushed those thoughts aside and dove straight into research.
Meanwhile, Ivy was busy with her marriage rituals.
Once everything was over, exhaustion finally caught up to her. She returned to her bedroom and softly called out, "Silas."
Silas appeared. His eyes looked slightly unfocused, his movements loose.
Even though no alcohol had been involved, a superhuman had awakened an ability that could induce intoxication. Silas had been tasked with holding that effect for several minutes, leaving him looking faintly tipsy.
This ritual hadn’t even existed originally. It was Helena who had insisted on adding it.
Silas looked at Ivy and couldn’t help but grin.
"So you’re finally mine," he murmured, his voice warm and teasing.
He stepped forward and wrapped his arms around her. Ivy smiled despite herself, the familiar comfort of his embrace easing her tension.
Slowly, their lips met, soft at first, then lingering, moving from her lips to her collarbone. Time blurred. Silas began removing his clothes, drawing closer.
But the moment Ivy saw his bare body, nausea surged violently within her.
Silas noticed immediately. He stopped, pulled back, and quickly put his clothes back on.
Ivy rushed to vomit, and when she returned to the bedroom, her face was pale and her body was trembling.
She stared at the floor. Silence pressed heavily between them.
