Chapter 504: Angry
Chapter 504: Chapter 504: Angry
Yet this being claimed Helena had met him first.
Confusion twisted in Silas’s mind.
The superior being continued calmly.
"She later used that DNA to help a friend of hers. I do not know who that friend was. But I do know this, after that DNA was used... a child was born."
He paused.
"A child whose existence I did not even know."
With that, he looked directly at Silas.
"You should have already guessed," he said. "Who that child was."
Silas’s heart skipped, dread creeping into his chest. ’No... it cannot be that simple.’
The superior being continued without pause.
"When I learned that I had a son, I was furious. It would have been one thing to knowingly have a child with Helena. But an unknown offspring carrying my DNA without my consent... that was unacceptable."
His eyes darkened.
"So I made a decision. I planned to kill that child."
The words fell cold and merciless.
"But Helena had already informed the government about my existence. Suddenly, everyone wanted me dead. I was hunted. Chased like an animal."
He smiled faintly, almost nostalgically.
"In the end, I used my intellect. I deceived them. I altered my enemy’s appearance and handed that unfortunate soul over to the authorities in my place. Those fools believed they had captured their target."
He laughed, the sound hollow and echoing, devoid of warmth.
"Thus, in a way... you survived because of my mercy."
He looked at Silas again.
"So yes. You are my son. Do you have any further questions?"
Silas forced himself to meet his gaze, though his palms had begun to sweat.
"Who exactly are you people?" he demanded. "Do you come from another planet?"
The superior being chuckled.
"Indeed. You might call us an interplanetary civilization. You understand that beyond a solar system... there are star systems, do you not?"
Silas nodded stiffly, though the concept suddenly felt far more terrifying than it ever had in textbooks.
"In one such star system," the superior being continued, "there exists a planet inhabited entirely by beings like me. We are considered superior because we do not require food. We draw energy directly from stars and moons. That alone is enough to sustain us."
The room felt colder as he spoke.
"Our average lifespan exceeds a thousand years. With proper refinement of our abilities, we can live even longer."
Silas frowned.
"So you also cultivate?" he asked instinctively.
The superior being burst into laughter.
"That fantasy you humans obsess over? That is fiction. When I speak of cultivation, I mean the refinement of our superpowers. Every one of us is born with an ability. We train it, strengthen it, evolve it."
He leaned forward slightly, his voice dropping.
"If the inhabitants of my planet were to descend upon this world in full force... humanity would be erased."
Silas’s fists clenched so tightly that his knuckles turned white.
"Why come here at all?" he asked. "What was your original motive?"
Then, before the being could answer, Silas added grimly,
"Do not lie. You should already know I can sense deception."
The superior being laughed again, clearly amused.
"Very well. We came to conquer this planet. We wished to test humanity’s endurance, its intelligence, and its capacity to resist oppression. We wanted to see whether humans could fight back if subjected to injustice."
Silas’s voice hardened.
"You intended to enslave us."
The superior being nodded repeatedly, appreciation flickering in his eyes.
"Exactly. You exceed my expectations."
Silas, and Vlad exchanged uneasy glances before Silas spoke again.
"Then why are you interested in Ivy?" he asked. "Why target her?"
For the first time, the superior being paused.
"That girl," he said slowly, "though only a hybrid, has achieved something none of us have managed to accomplish."
Silas’s expression tightened.
"What?"
"She has earned genuine trust from humans," the superior being replied. "Do you understand how difficult that is? Many of my kind have attempted infiltration for decades without success."
Hearing him speak of other superior beings so casually made Silas’s stomach sink.
"How many of you are already on this planet?" he asked.
The superior being opened his mouth as if to answer, then stopped. He chuckled.
"That," he said lightly, "is classified. Even if you are my son, I cannot reveal it."
Before anyone could react further, his body began to dissolve.
His form broke apart into drifting strands of gray smoke, the air growing colder as the smell of ash replaced everything else.
In the next second, he vanished completely.
Silas stood frozen, staring at the empty space where he had been.
Vlad, equally stunned, whispered under his breath, "We... never expected something like this."
Silas, however, was thinking about something entirely different.
He stared into the empty space where the superior being had vanished, his mind racing, unease crawling under his skin like ants. Then he turned to Vlad.
"Isn’t it strange?" he said slowly. "That being had the power to kill all of us without effort... yet he chose to leave. Do you not find that suspicious?"
Vlad frowned, the weight of those words settling heavily on him before he could respond.
Raya, who had only just regained her senses, spoke in a trembling voice.
"He is strange... that superior being. He appears... and then disappears, as if he has some fixed time limit."
The moment she said that, Silas and Vlad’s eyes met.
A silent understanding passed between them.
’A limitation.’
The realization struck both of them at once.
In the next second, Vlad bent down, lifted Raya into his arms, and turned as if to leave. But before he could take more than a step, Silas’s calm voice stopped him.
"She still needs to be punished."
Raya’s face drained of all color. Panic surged through her, and she clutched at Vlad’s clothes as if they were her only lifeline, her fingers trembling uncontrollably.
"Please..." she whispered, unable to even finish her sentence.
Vlad looked back at Silas, conflict clear in his eyes.
"I understand you are angry," Vlad said quietly. "But I beg you... do not go too far. Whatever she did, Raya was once your sister."
