Chapter 548: Asher
Chapter 548: Chapter 548: Asher
Her consciousness faded. She collapsed completely. When Ivy opened her eyes again...
She found herself lying in her apartment.
Meanwhile...
When Ivy had lost consciousness earlier, Silas had immediately been informed.
Without wasting a second, he rushed to her location.
After seeing her condition, he personally carried her away from the prison.
But before leaving...
He gave one final order.
"Felix. Kael. Ember."
His voice was cold.
"Make those prisoners regret being born."
Even though Ivy had not revealed every detail, the moment Felix, Kael, and Ember heard that she had personally imprisoned someone named Ian, the leader of Talon Base, they immediately remembered the story Ivy had once shared with them.
A cold realization settled over them.
’Ian... That man... He is the one.’
They remembered the fragments Ivy had revealed about her previous life, the imprisonment, the torture, the endless suffering she had endured alone.
And now those same people were here. Captured. Within reach.
To them, this was not merely a coincidence.
It was an opportunity.
An opportunity to repay the pain that had once been inflicted on their little sister.
When the trio arrived at the prison, the criminals shivered.
But Felix, Kael, and Ember didn’t even spare a glance toward the other prisoners.
Their eyes were fixed only on Ian’s captured subordinates.
One by one, they stepped forward.
Then the torture began.
A sharp crack echoed as a whip struck against someone’s back.
Another prisoner received a brutal slap that sent him crashing against the wall.
Salt was rubbed into open wounds.
Water was withheld. Food was denied. Sleep was forbidden.
Every time one of the prisoners collapsed from exhaustion, they were dragged back upright and forced to remain conscious.
Day turned into night. Night turned into day again. But the torture did not stop.
By the tenth day, the once-arrogant soldiers of Talon Base no longer looked like warriors.
They looked like broken shells.
Their bodies trembled uncontrollably.
Some could barely breathe.
Others had lost the strength to even scream.
A few of them fell to their knees, begging hoarsely.
"Please... just kill us..."
But Felix, Kael, and Ember remained unmoved.
Not even a flicker of mercy appeared in their eyes.
Because by now they had fully understood something.
In her previous life... Ivy had endured all of this. Alone.
Without anyone to protect her. Without anyone to save her.
That thought alone filled them with a deep, suffocating anger.
’She suffered all of that... while we weren’t even there.’
And because of that... They refused to stop.
Not until those men experienced a fraction of the pain Ivy had once endured.
Meanwhile, far away, Ian had already returned to Talon Base.
The moment he arrived inside the secure walls of his base, he locked himself in his office and began analyzing everything that had happened.
One conclusion quickly became clear.
’If Ivy truly decides to oppose me... Then I currently stand no chance.’
The realization did not anger him.
Instead, it made him cautious. Very cautious.
Which was why he made a decision almost immediately.
He would retreat for now. Observe. Gather information.
And only act later when the timing was right.
Back at Ivy’s base.
After regaining consciousness, Ivy soon learned that Felix, Kael, and Ember had already taken revenge on her behalf.
When she heard the details, a small wave of relief passed through her chest.
In her previous life...
Those same subordinates had been responsible for Kael’s death.
But now...
They were the ones being tortured.
For the first time in a long while, Ivy felt a strange sense of comfort.
’At least... this time... Things are different.’
While she was still resting, Ember suddenly appeared at the doorway.
"I want to talk."
Ivy looked up from her bed and motioned for her to continue.
Ember stepped inside the room slowly.
Her expression was unusually serious.
"Even though I know you are still recovering... there is something I need to tell you."
She paused briefly before continuing.
"You don’t need to worry about Ian anymore. I will handle him."
Ivy frowned immediately.
"I..."
But before she could object, Ember raised her hand slightly to stop her.
"Before you argue, answer one question."
Her eyes narrowed slightly.
"Do you know what department I worked in before the apocalypse?"
Ivy blinked. Then she shook her head.
Ember smiled faintly. "Security And Intelligence."
"I used to work in the security department."
Her voice carried a quiet confidence.
"I spent most of my time gathering information about different places and people."
She crossed her arms slightly. "And I was very good at it."
A hint of pride appeared on her face.
"I was also very good at getting information from others. In short..."
She gave Ivy a meaningful look.
"I was a professionally trained investigator."
Ivy couldn’t help but look at her with genuine admiration.
Ember noticed that expression immediately.
And for some reason, it made her chest swell with pride.
Whenever her sister looked at her like that, she felt as if she were standing on top of the world.
She smiled and said softly,
"So since this matter concerns you... leave it to me."
"From Ian’s location... to his daily movements... even his dietary preferences. I will know everything."
She stepped toward the door.
Then paused briefly.
"Focus on getting better."
After saying that, Ember straightened her shoulders and walked out of the room.
Ivy watched her leave.
A small smile slowly appeared on her face.
’She really cares about me... Too much, actually.’
But the warmth in her heart was undeniable.
Just as she was smiling...
The door opened again.
Another figure walked in.
The moment Ivy saw him, her eyes widened slightly.
"Asher?"
The young man grinned the moment he saw her.
"Sister-in-law!"
"It has been a long time!"
Ivy looked at him with surprise.
After all, this man had disappeared for a long time and didn’t even attend her wedding.
For the past two months, he had not shown up even once.
She had genuinely wondered where he had gone.
