Chapter 616: Pregnant
Chapter 616: Chapter 616: Pregnant
Two days later, the object was delivered.
A small, glowing sphere, pulsing faintly, as if it carried something alive within it.
Frank stood nearby, looking utterly drained, his face pale, his eyes hollow. Not once did he show hatred... not even resentment.
Later, Ivy learned that Jade had fallen ill again.
She remained silent for a long time after hearing that, her expression unreadable. Then, without a word, she sent Alana to heal him.
Alana’s abilities proved exceptional. By the time she returned, Jade had fully recovered.
Frank and his wife came to Ivy’s door repeatedly after that, their gratitude overflowing, their voices thick with emotion.
But Ivy only waved it off lightly. "This was an equal trade," she said calmly.
Still... a thought lingered in her mind like a thorn.
’If one day... someone tells Silas that his happiness was built on someone else’s sacrifice...’
Her chest tightened faintly. ’...that’s something he could never accept.’
The moment that thought settled in, she immediately set out to find him.
She found Silas in the military barracks. Without hesitation, she stepped forward and placed the crystal into his hands.
Silas frowned slightly, confusion flashing across his face. "What is..."
Before he could finish, the crystal reacted. A sudden surge of light burst from it, flooding the space around them.
For a moment, everything changed.
Their senses sharpened. Their breathing steadied. Their strength... surged.
And when their eyes met... It felt as if something invisible snapped into place.
A bond. Deep. Unbreakable. They both froze, staring at each other with widened eyes, their hearts pounding wildly.
Then, without thinking...they moved.
Their lips crashed together in a desperate, overwhelming kiss, as if they were afraid this moment might vanish if they hesitated.
Their breaths tangled, their hands gripping each other tightly, pulling closer and closer.
People nearby paused, staring in shock, whispers rising around them.
But Ivy and Silas heard nothing. They were lost, completely, utterly, in their own world.
By the time they reached Ivy’s apartment, neither of them remembered how they got there.
It was only when their breaths grew uneven, when reality slowly crept back in, that they finally pulled apart.
They stood there, chest to chest, breathing heavily, eyes still locked.
Silas spoke first, his voice unsteady. "What... did you do?"
Ivy smiled faintly, a soft glow in her eyes. "You’re my soulmate now."
Silas’s brows knit together, confusion flickering across his face.
Ivy let out a quiet chuckle. "The only connection I had with Jade..." she paused briefly, her gaze softening, "...I cut it off. For you."
Her voice lowered. "Now... every bond I have... is with you."
Silence followed. Then slowly, Silas’s expression changed.
The confusion melted away, replaced by something warmer... deeper.
Without another word, he stepped forward and pulled her into a tight embrace.
"Thank you," he whispered, his voice thick with emotion as he held her close, as if afraid to ever let her go again.
He kept thanking Ivy over and over again, his voice brimming with emotion, his hands still wrapped tightly around her as if he feared she might disappear the moment he let go.
"You’re the best... you really are," he murmured, his breath warm against her shoulder.
Ivy only giggled softly, the sound light and teasing, a contrast to the heaviness that had filled the room earlier.
She leaned back slightly, her eyes glinting with mischief. "Well," she hummed playfully, "if you’re this moved... then shouldn’t I get some kind of reward?"
Her tone carried a teasing lilt, and the atmosphere between them softened, warmth replacing the tension that once lingered like a shadow.
They continued their make-out session.
But elsewhere, a hidden problem was starting to surface.
Ember and Jay stood facing each other, tension thick enough to feel in every breath.
"I’m keeping the child," Ember insisted, her voice firm despite the slight tremble beneath it. Her hand instinctively rested over her abdomen, as if shielding something fragile.
Jay ran a hand through his hair, frustration and fear tangled together in his expression. "Ember... listen to me," he said, his voice tightening. "This isn’t about whether I want a child or not."
His gaze softened, but it carried a deep, unspoken fear. "You just recovered from stomach cancer... your body isn’t ready for this."
’I can’t lose you... not again,’ he thought, his chest tightening painfully.
"I don’t want a child if it means losing you," he continued, his voice dropping. "You matter more than anything."
Ember’s eyes shimmered slightly, but her resolve didn’t waver. "This child... is proof of us," she whispered. "Of everything we’ve been through... everything we are."
To her, it wasn’t just a risk. It was love made real.
Jay felt helpless. ’How do I make her understand...?’
Before he could gather his thoughts, Ember stepped forward and wrapped her arms around him. The warmth of her embrace seeped through him instantly, melting the tension that had locked his body moments before.
Her voice softened near his ear. "I’m not being impulsive," she murmured. "I’ve thought about it... a lot."
She pulled back slightly, her eyes searching his. "We can consult a doctor. We can be careful... just give it a chance."
Jay let out a slow breath, his shoulders sagging slightly. "It’s already a month since your recovery stabilized," he said quietly. "If you go through with this now... it could damage your body permanently."
His jaw tightened. "Some damage... can’t be undone."
Ember’s lips curved into a faint, bittersweet smile. "I understand," she said gently. "I understand that you’re scared... that you’re worried."
Her fingers lifted, brushing softly against his cheek, her touch warm and grounding. "And I understand that you’re afraid of losing me."
She paused, her voice softening further. "But I want something that belongs to both of us... something that proves we existed together."
Jay’s chest ached. ’I already lost you once... I can’t go through that again,’ he wanted to say.
But the words never left his lips. Ember was stubborn. And he knew it.
