Chapter 675: Eric And Robert
Chapter 675: Eric And Robert
Realization dawned on Ian, and with it came a surge of fury so intense that his veins seemed to burn.
"You traitor!" he roared.
"Once I get out of these restraints, I will make every single one of you regret this. Every single one of you who dared to betray me!"
His eyes locked onto Wade, filled with venom and promise, as though he was already imagining tearing him apart.
’Empty threats,’ Wade thought, his lips curling slightly.
With Silas present, neither Ian nor Robert stood even the slightest chance of escaping.
Nearby, Robert’s expression twisted with hatred as he stared at Silas, his lips pulling into a grim smile.
"Go ahead and act all confident," he sneered.
"It won’t last long. The superior beings will arrive soon, and when they do... all of you will regret what you’ve done."
Silas’s eyes sharpened instantly, catching onto the crucial detail hidden within his words.
"Superior beings?" he questioned, narrowing her gaze. "You’ve been in contact with them?"
Robert let out a low chuckle.
’It’s already in motion... nothing can stop it now,’ he thought, slowly closing his eyes in satisfaction.
Normally, it would have taken decades...two long, dragging decades...for those beings to arrive on Earth.
But something had changed.
Something significant had been discovered...something capable of accelerating the process of opening the portal to such an extent that humanity wouldn’t even have time to react before it was too late.
Meanwhile, Silas’ eyes turned ice-cold, his decision made in an instant.
Without hesitation, he stepped forward and struck Robert at the back of his neck, knocking him unconscious before he could react.
In one swift motion, Silas unlocked his restraints and hoisted him over his shoulder.
"Where are you going?!" Ian shouted.
"Are you going to free me too?!" His words came out desperate now.
Wade simply stuck out his tongue in response, a mocking gesture, plucked his hairs before casually turning and following Silas out.
Ian continued shouting, his voice growing hoarse, but it was useless. No one turned back.
Soon, Silas exited with Robert slung over his shoulder.
To the researchers watching from a distance, it appeared as though Robert was the one escorting Silas, and none of them dared to question it.
After all, Robert was known to be closely associated with Ian, and no one wanted to risk crossing him.
Not long after, another figure emerged...Ian.
At least, that was what everyone believed.
In reality, it was Wade.
He glanced at the surrounding researchers with a cold gaze. "Go back and continue the experiment," he ordered firmly.
Without hesitation, everyone nodded and returned to their work.
Wade had been entrusted with temporary control over the Talon base, and he intended to use that authority to its fullest.
His second ability allowed him to copy another person’s powers for five minutes, provided he had physical contact or possessed an item belonging to them.
Earlier, during their interaction, he had discreetly collected several hair samples of Ian, ensuring that he could replicate their abilities when needed.
’As long as I maintain this... no one will suspect a thing,’ he thought.
Meanwhile, Silas arrived at the SiIvy base, carrying the unconscious Robert.
Once inside, he explained everything to Ivy in detail.
As Ivy listened, her expression gradually turned cold, her eyes hardening as they fell upon Robert.
’Some people...’ she thought bitterly, ’they chase their own gains without realizing they’re dragging the entire world toward destruction.’
Humanity’s ignorance, their selfish pursuits...it all disgusted her.
Taking a slow breath, she steadied herself before turning to Silas, her expression softening slightly.
"Since this concerns all of humanity," she said gently, "it wouldn’t be right for you to carry this burden alone."
Silas met her gaze and nodded, his tone serious. "The side mission has already begun. We should start seeing results soon."
Ivy’s smile deepened just a little.
She never believed that saving the world was something she could accomplish alone.
That was precisely why she had assigned Silas that mission.
Sometime later, Robert stirred awake.
The first thing he felt was the cold hardness of the chair beneath him and the tight grip of restraints binding his body.
He tried to move, but the chains clinked sharply, refusing to give even an inch.
Just as he was about to shout for help, the door creaked open, the sound slicing through the silence.
Eric walked in.
The moment Robert saw him, his eyes flickered with a mix of shock and guilt.
Eric let out a soft chuckle, his gaze lingering on Robert with a strange mix of disappointment and familiarity.
"So, how are things going, Robert?" he asked casually, tilting his head slightly. "Did you succeed in your... secret mission?"
Then, as if savoring the moment, his expression turned mocking.
"Oh, wait. Your secret mission involved helping other civilizations capture humanity, didn’t it?"
He shook his head slowly, disappointment evident in every movement.
Robert lowered his gaze.
The history between them wasn’t something that could be erased so easily.
Once, they had shared a bond as teacher and student.
Eric had seen potential in Robert when no one else did, recognizing his talent for psychology and guiding him toward it.
And Robert had not disappointed him...he had excelled, becoming one of the finest in the field.
There had been a time when Robert would eagerly bring his questions to Eric, seeking guidance, trusting him completely.
But everything had changed.
The day Robert uncovered that secret...hidden deep within his own family...was the day his path diverged.
He abandoned psychology without hesitation and threw himself into a shadowy mission, one that had now led him here... bound, exposed, and standing before the very man who once believed in him.
Eric let out a slow breath and leaned slightly forward as if trying to bridge a distance that no longer existed.
"Back then, I wasn’t belittling you," he began, his voice steady yet carrying a trace of old patience.
"I was acknowledging your talent, Robert. You had something rare. Do you remember what you had said then?"
