Zombie Apocalypse: I Have Safe Zone Superpower

Chapter 776: Cold Silas

Chapter 776: Chapter 776: Cold Silas

The strength completely left her body. She stumbled forward.

Just as she was about to collapse onto the floor, Silas quickly caught her.

He gently supported her fragile body before carefully carrying her back toward the bed.

His movements were incredibly gentle, almost as though he feared hurting her.

After laying her down, he adjusted the blanket around her.

Feeling the unusual tenderness, Ivy became even more anxious.

She quickly grabbed his sleeve. “W-Where are we?”

Her voice trembled.

“What about those superior beings? Where are they? Are they going to attack Earth now? Did the negotiations fail? Were they dissatisfied with my body?”

One question after another escaped her lips. Silas quietly listened until she finally finished.

Only then did he calmly answer, “We tricked them. They won’t be coming back for the time being.”

Hearing that, Ivy frowned deeply. “…Why?”

She looked straight into his eyes.

“Why would you do that? As long as I gave them my life… everyone on Earth would’ve remained safe.”

Silas finally met her gaze. His expression remained calm.

“But… we chose to protect the world because they wanted to save you. So, how did everything suddenly become the other way around?”

The simple question instantly left Ivy speechless. She slowly lowered her gaze.

Her fingers unconsciously tightened around the blanket.

“But my family lives on this Earth.”

She looked back at Silas.

“You too. We’re no match for those superior beings. One day… they’ll kill all of us. I was only trying to buy time. As long as all of you eventually became strong enough to defeat them, wouldn’t that have been enough?”

Listening to her explanation, Silas suddenly smiled.

However, the smile carried neither warmth nor happiness. Only bitterness. Only self-mockery.

“Really?”

He quietly laughed.

“If that’s truly your reasoning, then perhaps I should offer my own life as well.”

His eyes never left hers.

“Maybe they’ll find me even more valuable than you. After all, I’d be willingly handing my body over to them.”

Hearing those words, Ivy’s eyes widened in alarm. “Silas! You’re going too far!”

Silas simply chuckled.

“Am I? You went much further. I never complained. So why is it unacceptable when I simply tell you the truth?”

Those words pierced straight into Ivy’s heart. She immediately lowered her head.

Only then did she realise how deeply her decision had hurt him.

“I’m…”

Her voice became almost inaudible. “…I’m sorry.”

Silas didn’t respond. Instead, he quietly turned around and left the room.

Seeing him walk away without another word, panic immediately rose inside Ivy.

‘Did I really make him that angry? Is he refusing to forgive me?’

She nervously stared at the doorway. Several minutes later, the door opened once again.

Silas walked back inside carrying a steaming bowl of porridge.

The comforting aroma of warm rice filled the room.

Seeing him return, Ivy secretly let out a long sigh of relief.

It seemed he hadn’t completely abandoned her. Silas walked over before gently placing the bowl into her hands.

“Eat something first.”

His tone had returned to its usual calmness. “I’ll take care of everything else afterward.”

Before he could leave again, Ivy quickly reached out and grabbed his wrist. “Wait.”

She looked at him seriously.

“How exactly did you trick them? And what really happened after I lost consciousness?”

Silas looked at Ivy quietly before answering in his usual calm voice. “Nanami contacted me.”

He sat on the chair in the room, his gaze remaining fixed on the documents before him. “He told me that you were planning to sacrifice yourself.”

A brief pause followed. “He also told me everything about Tammy and Coco, including the conversation all of you had.”

He slowly turned another page. “Not only that, but Nora also had a prophetic dream. She saw you sacrificing yourself.”

Only then did Silas finally raise his eyes to meet Ivy’s.

“So, I gathered all of that information and made my preparations.”

He then calmly explained everything that had happened after Ivy had lost consciousness, how they had used the information they possessed to deceive the superior beings, how every step had been calculated in advance, and how they had barely managed to buy themselves precious time.

Once he finished, he didn’t linger. Nor did he continue the conversation.

He simply stood up, gathered the military reports resting on the table, and quietly walked out of the room.

Left alone, Ivy remained sitting on the bed in stunned silence.

This was the first time she had ever seen Silas treat her so coldly.

Not once had he smiled. Not once had he comforted her. He hadn’t even looked at her with the warmth he usually carried in his eyes.

Lowering her gaze, Ivy slowly looked toward the bowl of porridge resting in her lap.

She quietly scooped up a spoonful before bringing it to her lips. The warm porridge slid down her throat.

Yet, for some reason, it tasted incredibly bland. It wasn’t because Silas’s cooking had become worse.

Rather, she simply couldn’t taste anything anymore. The bitterness filling her heart had overwhelmed every other sensation.

After finishing breakfast, Ivy quietly washed up before leaving her room. Walking down the hallway, she eventually found Silas sitting inside the living room.

Stacks of military reports covered the table before him.

Several communication screens floated nearby, continuously displaying updates regarding the superior beings.

He was completely focused on his work. Taking a deep breath, Ivy slowly walked over.

Without saying anything, she gently wrapped both of her arms around him from behind.

Resting her cheek against his shoulder, she softly murmured,

“Hubby, are you still angry about what happened?”

She smiled weakly. “I even brought something for you. If I give it to you, will you forgive me?”

Before he could answer, she leaned forward and gently kissed his cheek.

However, Silas didn’t react at all. His expression remained completely unchanged. Without turning around, he quietly spoke,

“Go take your medicine first. You need to recover.”

Hearing such an indifferent response, Ivy immediately pouted. “I won’t. You’re not even looking at me.”

Instead of indulging her, Silas calmly placed the military documents back onto the table.

He slowly stood up. Before Ivy could react… he effortlessly scooped her into his arms. “S-Silas!”

Ignoring her surprised protest, he carried her across the room before carefully placing her onto a nearby chair.

Only after making sure she was seated comfortably did he quietly walk toward the kitchen.

A few moments later, he returned carrying a glass of water and her medicine. He gently placed both in front of her. When Ivy saw that, she couldn’t help but complain.

“Silas, you’re acting so cold.”

Once again, he remained silent. Watching his indifferent expression, Ivy finally realized that throwing a tantrum wouldn’t work this time.

Quietly, she picked up the medicine and obediently swallowed it. Only after seeing her finish every tablet did Silas move again.

Without saying a word, he disappeared briefly before returning with the softest pair of slippers he could find.

He knelt before her. Carefully lifted one of her feet. Then gently helped her put the slippers on. His movements remained incredibly gentle.

Yet, there was a strange distance between them. Watching him silently take care of her, Ivy suddenly felt a sharp ache inside her chest.

She had always believed that no matter what happened, she would always be the one accompanying Silas.

She had never imagined that the one thing she couldn’t endure was his silence.

Looking at him, she quietly asked, “…Are you really that angry?”

Silas didn’t answer. Instead, he simply returned to his work as though he hadn’t heard her question. Seeing that, Ivy convinced herself that he merely needed more time.

So, she stopped asking. The days quietly passed. Every morning, Ivy would wake up to find breakfast already waiting for her.

After breakfast, there would be medicine. At lunchtime, she would stubbornly insist on cooking. “I can do it myself. I’ve already recovered.”

Yet every single time, Silas would quietly prepare lunch before she even reached the kitchen.

By the time she arrived, everything would already be finished. After lunch, he wouldn’t allow her to lift a finger.

Instead, he would hand her another round of medicine.

During the afternoon, Ivy would sit quietly on the sofa, scrolling through reports regarding the superior beings and the government’s latest countermeasures.

Occasionally, she’d glance toward Silas, hoping he’d speak first.

But he never did. When evening arrived, dinner would already be waiting. After dinner, more medicine.

Then, he would gently remind her to go to bed early. That routine repeated itself, for an entire week.

Every single day remained exactly the same. Everything Silas did demonstrated his care for her.

Yet, not once during that entire week did he tell her he loved her. Not once did he hug her. Not once did he sleep beside her.

Every night, he quietly left after making sure she had fallen asleep.

And every morning, he was already gone before she woke up.

Ivy woke up, and her body finally felt like her own again after a week of recovery. Her mind wandered to Silas.
