Chapter 788: Remembering Ivy
Chapter 788: Chapter 788: Remembering Ivy
A helpless smile appeared on her lips as she muttered,
“If you keep acting like this… I’ll start receiving a completely different message from all of this.”
She covered her face with one hand.
‘No… Don’t overthink it. He’s just being kind. Nothing more.’
…………………………………
Meanwhile, Patrick headed toward the military base as he did every single day.
The morning air carried a faint chill, while soldiers bustled around, preparing for another busy day.
Boots struck the pavement rhythmically, and distant commands echoed throughout the training grounds.
Suddenly, Patrick froze. Not too far away, he spotted a woman with striking pink hair. His pupils contracted.
For a brief moment, he genuinely wondered whether his aging eyes were playing tricks on him.
However, the more he looked, the more familiar she became. At that very moment, the countless nightmares that had haunted him returned all at once.
And finally… the faceless villain who had tortured him throughout those dreams now had a face. It was her.
The woman with the distinctive pink hair. Patrick’s breathing gradually became heavier. His fists slowly tightened until his knuckles turned white.
A terrifying rage erupted inside him. ‘It’s her… It’s really her… I finally found you.’
Without thinking, he began marching straight toward the woman. Every step became faster than the last.
His murderous intent surged uncontrollably. He wanted nothing more than to crush her neck with his own hands. He wanted to kill her.
Right there. Right now. However… just before he reached her, someone called out, “Ivy!”
The pink-haired woman immediately turned around before smiling and walking toward the person who had called her.
Patrick instantly stopped. His entire body stiffened.
“Ivy…”
His expression slowly changed. The founder of the entire base was also named Ivy.
Although there were many people named Ivy throughout the world… none of them had such distinctive pink hair.
Cold sweat slowly trickled down Patrick’s forehead. His widened eyes remained fixed on her retreating figure.
‘I… I almost attacked the founder of the base…?’
Reason gradually returned to his mind. However… the burning hatred inside his heart refused to disappear.
Instead… it grew even stronger. His entire body trembled violently from the overwhelming urge to kill someone.
‘I need to vent this anger. I don’t care who it is. Anyone will do. As long as I can slaughter someone…’
The very instant that thought crossed his mind… he noticed Gwen walking toward the military barracks.
A sinister smile slowly spread across his wrinkled face. An idea had suddenly formed inside his mind.
Without hesitation… he quietly followed behind her.
……………………………..
Meanwhile, Gwen was in an exceptionally bad mood. Her father had unexpectedly assigned her today’s errand. She was supposed to deliver a bag of clothes to Annie.
Honestly… she couldn’t understand the point of it.
‘Does Annie seriously lack clothes? Of course not. Then why send me? Is Father trying to make me jealous on purpose?’
The more she thought about it…the more irritated she became.
Muttering complaints under her breath, she continued walking toward Annie’s office. When she finally arrived, she discovered that the room was completely empty.
A relieved smile immediately appeared on her face. “Good. At least I won’t have to see her.”
She casually placed the neatly folded clothes on Annie’s desk before preparing to leave.
However, something suddenly caught her attention. Resting quietly beside the documents on the desk was a delicate hair clip.
Gwen froze. After all… that was the exact same hair clip she had worn during the previous party. Her brows slowly knitted together.
‘Why is my hair clip here? Did I accidentally leave it behind…? Or… Did Annie purposely keep it?’
Unable to understand the situation, Gwen simply picked it up. Honestly… she convinced herself that Annie probably wanted to imitate her hairstyle.
‘How childish.’
With that ridiculous conclusion, she slipped the clip into her pocket. However… deep inside her heart… she secretly hoped that somehow… somewhere… she would run into Annie.
Perhaps, they could argue again.
Perhaps, she could finally embarrass Annie somehow.
Unfortunately, even after leaving the military barracks, Annie was nowhere to be seen. Letting out a disappointed sigh, Gwen eventually took out her phone and called her.
The call connected after only a few rings.
“Hey. I’ve already left the bag of clothes on your desk. Father asked me to deliver it. So don’t you dare accuse me of not doing my job.”
Annie’s calm voice soon came from the other side. “You’re at the military barracks? Come meet me.”
Gwen immediately rolled her eyes. “I don’t have time. I’m currently…”
She paused before glancing around her surroundings. “…in the alley near Rosewood Residential Road.”
Annie answered almost immediately. “Alright. Stay there. I’ll come pick you up.”
Hearing those words, Gwen frowned. “No need.”
However, Annie replied firmly, “Wait for me.”
Gwen let out an exaggerated sigh. “Whatever.”
She immediately hung up the phone. Despite acting annoyed… the corners of her lips slowly curled upward.
For some reason… the thought of irritating Annie put her in a much better mood. Just as she was thinking about what she should say… she suddenly heard slow footsteps approaching from behind.
Gwen frowned before turning around. Standing there… was the same greasy old man from the banquet.
Her expression instantly darkened. “Old man. What are you doing here?”
Patrick slowly approached her with a creepy smile plastered across his face.
“I think you’re a very beautiful woman. Why don’t you let me touch you?”
The moment those disgusting words entered her ears, Gwen’s eyes widened in disbelief. A wave of revulsion surged through her entire body.
“You’ve been following me? You disgusting old toad! Have you even looked at yourself in the mirror?”
Patrick merely chuckled. By now… he had already figured out most of the base’s rules.
More importantly… he had discovered a loophole. And today… he intended to test it. Pretending to misunderstand her anger, he smiled innocently.
“Oh my. I think you’ve misunderstood me.”
He slowly looked her up and down.
“Although you’re a little less beautiful than your eldest sister… And although you seem like the jealous younger sister… I still think you can barely pass as her substitute.”
The instant those words were spoken… something inside Gwen snapped. The ugly jealousy she had managed to suppress over the past several weeks exploded all at once.
She absolutely hated being compared to Annie. More than anything… she hated hearing that Annie was better than her.
Her face twisted with rage. She glared viciously at Patrick. “Take those words back.”
Patrick laughed mockingly. “But I’m only telling the truth. If you don’t believe me… go ask anyone. Who do you think they’d choose between you and your sister?”
Every word felt like a knife stabbing directly into Gwen’s pride, and her face flushed bright red. Finally, she completely lost control.
“You know what? Fuck you!”
With an angry shout, she swung her hand toward Patrick’s face. Patrick had been waiting for exactly this moment. Smack!
Her palm landed heavily across his wrinkled cheek.
Patrick slowly touched his stinging cheek before grinning wickedly.
“So… my guess was right.”
By now, he had almost completely figured out how the base’s rules operated. The rules appeared to apply equally to everyone.
However… there was one interesting exception. They seemed to favor those who were especially close to Ivy.
Patrick had personally witnessed Annie and Gwen arguing and even exchanging blows inside one of the military villas several days ago.
Yet… neither of them had been teleported away. At the time, he had found it strange.
Now, everything finally made sense. It wasn’t that the rules had failed.
Rather… the rules themselves seemed to be giving special treatment to people close to the base leader.
It was almost as though fate itself wanted Annie and Gwen to reconcile instead of allowing their relationship to deteriorate any further.
Now that Patrick had deliberately provoked Gwen, he knew exactly what would happen.
The rules wouldn’t protect either of them anymore. The moment he realised that his theory had worked, a sinister chuckle escaped his lips.
Without the slightest hesitation, he lunged toward Gwen. His fist tore through the air with terrifying force.
Gwen’s eyes widened. She instinctively stepped back before immediately retaliating. “You disgusting old man!”
She threw a punch straight toward his face. The instant both of them exchanged blows… a brilliant white light erupted around them.
Whoosh! Before either of them could react… both Patrick and Gwen disappeared from the base.
…………………………..
The moment Patrick found himself standing outside the protective boundaries of the base, he threw his head back and burst into hysterical laughter.
