Chapter 790: Investigation
Chapter 790: Chapter 790: Investigation
Taking a deep breath, Gwen quickly explained everything that had happened from beginning to end.
She didn’t hide a single detail.
She told them how Patrick had deliberately provoked her, how he insulted her, how he had exploited the base’s rules, and finally, how he had dragged her into a battle outside the base.
After hearing the complete story, everyone fell silent.
Silas was the first to regain his composure.
He looked toward the surrounding guards and spoke in a cold voice.
“Take him. Bring him to the investigation room and keep him restrained at all times. Don’t give him even the slightest opportunity to escape.”
“Yes, General!”
Several guards immediately stepped forward before dragging the struggling Patrick away.
………………………………….
Once everything had finally settled down, Gwen slowly looked toward Annie.
Her voice was much softer than usual. “How… how did you know I was here?”
Annie remained silent. Instead, Gwen’s father answered on her behalf.
“The moment Annie arrived at your meeting place and couldn’t find you, she realized something was wrong. She immediately started searching the entire base. When she couldn’t find you anywhere, she sought Ivy’s help. And that’s how we finally located you.”
Gwen quietly lowered her head. After remaining silent for several seconds, she looked toward Annie again.
“But… why were you even worried? Why didn’t you just think I got angry and left on my own?”
Annie rolled her eyes before crossing her arms.
“I know exactly how brainless you can be. But… even you shouldn’t be this brainless.”
Gwen’s cheeks immediately puffed up. “You!”
She pointed accusingly toward Annie. However, Annie completely ignored her childish reaction.
Instead, she turned toward Alana, who had also rushed over after hearing the commotion.
“Alana, could you please heal her injuries?”
Only then did Gwen finally notice the countless bruises covering her body.
During the battle, adrenaline had completely numbed the pain.
Now that everything had calmed down, every injury suddenly announced its presence.
Although she didn’t say anything, her heart gradually warmed.
Her eyes slowly became moist. She quietly watched Annie, who was still discussing the situation with everyone else.
Then, she glanced at Felix, who had hurried over the moment he heard the news.
Finally, she lowered her eyes.
‘Maybe… maybe this really is fate. Perhaps fate took Felix away from me because someone as unreliable and fickle as him was never meant to stay beside me. Instead… it gave me someone dependable. Someone who would always protect me. Someone like Annie.’
Without realizing it, the final trace of resentment she had carried toward Annie quietly disappeared.
………………………….
Meanwhile, inside the investigation room, the atmosphere was suffocatingly cold.
Patrick remained tightly restrained by psychic bindings.
His entire body trembled violently as sweat dripped down his forehead.
Silas stood directly in front of him.
Looking directly into Patrick’s eyes, he spoke calmly.
“Would you like to tell us everything yourself… or should I torture you until you forget what it even means to be human?”
Patrick gritted his teeth so hard that blood seeped from the corners of his mouth.
“Let me go! It’s all Ivy’s fault! Do you even know what she did to me?!”
His voice became increasingly hysterical.
“She beat me! She tortured me for seven whole days! She kept whipping me over and over again! She abused me! She’s the real monster! She should be the one getting punished!”
His expression twisted with fury.
“So why… why are all of you protecting her?!”
As Patrick roared furiously, Silas frowned. A trace of confusion appeared in his eyes.
He had never heard anything about Patrick before.
In fact, he had never even known such a person existed in Ivy’s past.
Meanwhile, Ivy quietly lowered her head. She had never intended for Silas to learn about Patrick.
Not like this. Seeing the tense atmosphere, Felix slowly stepped forward.
“Patrick, let’s verify your words first.”
Without waiting for Patrick’s permission, Felix immediately activated his ability.
Patrick’s face turned pale. He desperately struggled.
“No! Get away from me! You people are disgusting! Just wait! I’ll definitely escape, and you’ll all regret this!”
However, nobody paid attention to his hysterical shouting.
Instead, everyone quietly waited for Felix to finish reading Patrick’s memories.
Several minutes later, Felix slowly opened his eyes.
His face had become deathly pale. He unconsciously took several steps backward. His breathing became uneven.
Looking toward Silas, he spoke with an unusually grave expression.
“Whatever I’m about to tell you… please control your emotions.”
Felix slowly recounted everything.
Then, he continued with everything that had happened in this lifetime as well.
By the time Felix finished speaking, silence had completely consumed the room.
Silas stood motionless. Something inside his heart shattered.
So, even though he had always believed he had protected Ivy from every form of abuse, the truth was, she had been suffering somewhere he couldn’t see.
She had endured unimaginable pain, entirely alone.
He suddenly turned around before rushing outside.
Not far away, Ivy stood quietly facing the bustling crowd.
Without saying a single word, Silas hurried over before tightly pulling her into his embrace.
His body trembled uncontrollably.
“I’m sorry… I’m so sorry. It’s all my fault. I didn’t know… I didn’t know you had gone through all of that.”
Ivy was slightly startled. Then, she gently smiled before softly patting his back.
“It’s alright. It’s already in the past. It doesn’t matter anymore.”
She looked up at him with warm eyes. “Besides, I was brave enough to defeat him in the end. I already got my revenge.”
However, Silas couldn’t stop trembling.
If even Felix had chosen to describe everything as briefly as possible…then just how much suffering had Ivy truly endured?
The more he imagined, the more murderous rage burned inside him. Sensing his emotions, Ivy gently cupped his face.
“It’s alright, Silas. You’ve already done more than enough for me. So… let’s leave everything in the past, okay? I’ve already forgotten about it, and I’ve already taken my revenge.”
Hearing those gentle words, Silas slowly opened his eyes. After a long moment, he finally sighed.
“Alright. Then… we’ll forget about it.”
He smiled back.
However, deep inside his heart, a completely different thought was taking shape.
‘Forget? Perhaps she can. But I can’t.’
‘Patrick… since you’ve fallen into my hands, I’ll personally show you what it truly means to wish for death… only to discover that even death is a mercy you don’t deserve.’
With those thoughts buried deep inside his heart, Silas gently held Ivy’s hand before leading her away from the investigation area.
He deliberately chose not to tell Helena and Victor anything about Patrick.
He knew them too well. If they ever discovered everything Ivy had suffered, they would spend the rest of their lives drowning in guilt.
And Ivy would never want to see that happen.
Unfortunately, despite Silas’s efforts to keep the matter hidden, the truth eventually reached Felix.
So, Felix, Ivy’s brother, turned toward Alana’s husband, Felix, and stared at him with a knowing expression.
“I know you’re hiding something. I’ve sensed it for a long time. Kael didn’t send me here simply because he wanted me to assist with the investigation. He also wanted me to find out what was really going on.”
He narrowed his eyes.
“Even though Silas claimed that Patrick was simply one of our enemies, Ivy has already told us about her past life. So tell me something. How is it reasonable for a villain like Patrick to suddenly appear in front of me when none of us even knew who he was?”
The room fell silent. Alana’s husband, Felix, didn’t immediately answer.
After a long silence, he finally looked toward Ivy’s brother and sighed.
“You know what? I’ll tell you everything. But please… try to control your emotions after you hear it.”
With that, he finally revealed the entire truth.
By the time he finished, there was a long, suffocating silence.
Felix’s expression had completely changed. His hands trembled faintly at his sides.
For several seconds, he simply stood there, unable to process what he had just heard.
Finally, he turned around and quietly walked away. Alana’s husband, Felix, watched his retreating figure.
For some reason, his heart felt unbearably heavy.
He glanced toward Ivy’s distant back and quietly murmured,
“I did what I did because I didn’t want her to spend the rest of her life carrying the guilt of hiding something this important from her family.”
Even after her family eventually learnt the truth, they pretended they already knew.
But secretly… they cried. They genuinely cried.
They realised that Ivy had deliberately downplayed the abuse she suffered in her previous life. They had no idea she had endured so much.
Because that was the only way they could continue smiling in front of her.
