Zombie Apocalypse: I Have Safe Zone Superpower

Chapter 861: Chemistry

Chapter 861: Chapter 861: Chemistry

“Since it was my mistake in the first place, I won’t argue with your decision,” she said. After a brief pause, she looked directly at Alana and continued,

“As for the trouble my grandson has caused you, I’ll make sure he learns something from this experience. For the next month, I’ll have him work here as a waiter. Don’t worry, he’ll do an excellent job once he puts his mind to it.”

Alana immediately waved her hands in refusal, her expression turning serious at the suggestion.

“Please don’t do that. I’m not interested in making him work here, especially after the way he behaved today. Honestly, I’m worried that he might get so angry that he’ll spit in the food before serving it to a customer. If something like that happened, my restaurant would be the one receiving terrible reviews, and I’d be the one suffering the consequences!”

Gemma smiled wryly at her response. “It seems you have a rather poor impression of my grandson.”

Alana didn’t answer. She merely looked at Gemma with an expression that made her feelings perfectly clear.

Her silence was more than enough of an answer.

Gemma sighed softly before continuing,

“I understand your concerns, Alana, but there’s something you should know. My grandson will soon discover the truth about what happened. Once he realizes that he was wrong, I’m certain he’ll come here and apologize to you. I sincerely apologize for all the trouble he has caused you.”

Alana understood what Gemma was really apologizing for, and it wasn’t merely the fact that Lova had repeatedly come to the restaurant to cause trouble.

The older woman knew that her grandson was making unreasonable accusations, yet she had deliberately refrained from revealing the truth to him.

Instead, she had allowed him to argue, make mistakes, and take increasingly drastic actions, hoping that he would eventually investigate the matter himself and learn to recognize his own shortcomings.

If Alana hadn’t explicitly told Lova to investigate the situation, Gemma might never have encouraged him to uncover the truth.

As a result, he could have continued troubling the restaurant indefinitely, all because Gemma wanted to force him to mature through his own experiences.

In other words, Gemma had knowingly allowed Alana to bear the consequences of her grandson’s stubbornness for the sake of his personal growth.

‘She wanted him to learn a lesson, but she never considered how much trouble she was causing me in the process,’ Alana thought.

Gemma had also spent a considerable amount of time praising Lova’s qualities.

She mentioned that he had graduated from an excellent university, possessed considerable intelligence, and was perfectly capable of performing well as a waiter if he genuinely applied himself.

Alana listened to everything with a polite expression, but she had little interest in hearing another lengthy explanation of Lova’s virtues.

No matter how intelligent or well-educated he might be, those qualities meant very little if he continued behaving so arrogantly toward others.

Once Gemma had finally left the restaurant, Alana took a deep breath and rubbed her forehead, feeling as though the conversation had drained what little energy she had left.

She couldn’t help wondering whether the entire Lesi family had a habit of making other people suffer for the sake of their own lessons.

Sure enough, the following morning, when Alana arrived to open the restaurant, she discovered Lova sitting outside the entrance.

He looked completely haggard, with dark circles beneath his eyes and a disheveled appearance that suggested he hadn’t slept properly all night.

The moment Lova saw Alana, he immediately rushed toward her.

Alana nearly had a heart attack when he suddenly appeared in front of her, and she instinctively placed a hand over her chest, patting it to calm her racing heart.

“Good grief, you scared me! What do you want to say? Just say it instead of acting like a beggar who’s desperate for attention,” she complained, glaring at him with evident annoyance.

For the first time in his life, Lova had been spoken to in such an insulting manner, and his expression immediately darkened with anger.

However, instead of losing his temper as he usually would have, he stared at Alana for a moment before asking in an unexpectedly serious tone, “You must have been deeply hurt by what happened, right?”

Alana blinked in confusion before responding, “Hurt? Why would I be hurt?”

She was already beginning to feel irritated by his strange behavior, but Lova seemed to have entered his own world, barely paying attention to her response.

“I understand now that you didn’t do anything wrong, and the entire situation was simply a misunderstanding. I feel deeply ashamed of how I treated you, and I believe I need to make up for my mistake somehow,” he declared earnestly.

“How about this? I’ll work as a waiter in your restaurant for the next year without asking for any payment.”

Alana stared at him, wondering whether she had heard him correctly.

‘No, thank you! I don’t need you here for an entire year,’ she thought, struggling to keep herself from voicing her frustration aloud.

However, before she could respond, Lova reached out and held her hand with an unexpectedly earnest expression.

“Please, just give me one chance!” he pleaded. “I genuinely want to make amends for what I did, so please don’t reject me without even considering my offer.”

Alana calmly withdrew her hand and ignored his pleas before proceeding to open the restaurant.

The day passed uneventfully, and Alana didn’t see Lova again. She assumed that he had finally given up on the idea and moved on with his life.

However, that evening, while Alana was helping the other waitresses clean the tables, she accidentally slipped and fell awkwardly.

A sharp pain shot through her leg, and she immediately realized that she had sustained a fracture.

The injury made even the simplest movements uncomfortable, and she found herself struggling to walk around the restaurant.

Since she couldn’t manage everything on her own, she began worrying about how she would handle the counter and supervise the staff while recovering.

Just as she was considering hiring someone to help manage the business temporarily, Lova somehow learned about her injury and hurried over to offer his assistance.

He stood before her with a serious expression, his earlier arrogance replaced by a sincerity that seemed almost unfamiliar on his face.

“Do you still refuse to let me help you?” he asked gently. “I’m telling you that I don’t have any ulterior motives this time. I simply want to make up for my mistakes, so please let me do something useful.”

Alana studied him carefully, trying to determine whether he was genuinely sincere or simply preparing another elaborate scheme.

However, the earnestness in his eyes eventually persuaded her to reconsider.

After all, she wouldn’t have to pay him a single credit for his work, and he had already promised to compensate her three times over for any losses caused by his mistakes.

‘Isn’t this practically like recruiting a hidden powerhouse without spending a single credit?’ she thought, beginning to see the advantages of accepting his offer.

‘Besides, those small-time thugs who keep showing up to demand protection money will probably think twice before causing trouble when they see him here. This arrangement might actually work in my favor.’

After weighing the benefits against the potential inconveniences, Alana finally agreed to let him help.

Lova began working at the restaurant, and over the next two weeks, he proved to be far more useful than Alana had initially expected.

During that period, he chased away more than twenty thugs who had come to demand protection money, making it clear that the restaurant wasn’t an easy target.

Although he accidentally broke a few cups and other items while working, he compensated Alana three times the cost of every damaged object without complaining.

Alana couldn’t help feeling secretly pleased with the arrangement.

‘If he keeps working like this, I might actually have found myself an incredibly useful employee,’ she thought, watching him handle another troublesome customer.

Unfortunately, things didn’t continue according to her expectations.

On the fifteenth day, Lova approached Alana with an unusually serious expression. After looking at her for a long moment, he finally asked, “Alana, don’t you feel that there’s some chemistry between us?”

Alana stared at him blankly, wondering whether she had misunderstood his question.

“Chemistry? What chemistry are you talking about?” she asked, genuinely confused.

Lova seemed completely undeterred by her response.
