Chapter 667: The Lin’an City Base’s Subbase ( 4 )
Feeling curious, Wen Chang opened the small book and read it. After a while, he finally raised his gaze and asked in disbelief, "Ordinary people also can have a job and earn a living there? Cousin, are you sure it’s not a scam?"
Wen Kai laughed at his words and replied, "How could it be? These rules and regulations were created by the Base Commander, my Captain, and my Sister-in-law. The base has been operating for a few months, and so far, everything is working well."
"I wonder if the Green Lake Base will be as good as this place," Wen Fusen said.
"Uncle, since the new base will be managed by the Lin’an City Base, the same rules and regulations will be applied. The situation will be the same then," Wen Kai said.
"Now that we have the plan, let’s not waste any more time," Jia Liufei said, eager to move out of this place.
Hearing this, everyone nodded in agreement. They started opening the boxes and dividing the supplies. To avoid attracting unwanted attention, they used a sack to carry the supplies. After they filled several sacks, Wen Kai stored the rest in his spatial ring.
Not long after, Wen Fuhua and Lu Jiaojiao returned with 2 bottles of mineral water and 5 cold, hard steamed buns. The steamed buns emitted a sour smell and were made using coarse flour.
Placing the food and water on the table, Lu Jiaojiao complained, "They only gave us this much but tried to take advantage of me." She turned to Wen Chang and added, "Cousin, I don’t want to get the ration next time. That old man tried to grope my breast!"
When he heard this, Wen Chang frowned and said, "It’s my negligence. I overlook this problem. Next time, you don’t have to go."
"In the next few days, you and your mother should stay here and not go anywhere. Otherwise, I won’t be able to protect you if someone tries to do something bad to you."
Even though she was unwilling to be confined, Lu Jiaojiao was disgusted when she thought of those men trying to take advantage of her just now. After she considered the pros and cons, she nodded and said, "Okay."
After they were sure that everything was fine, Wen Kai and his family left the room to carry out their task, leaving Lu Jiaojiao and Wen Fuhua in the room.
At the same time in the Lin’an City Base, Xun Che and Wen Hanli were as busy as bees.
After they started to expand the business of selling supplies to the nearby cities and towns, more and more spies infiltrated their base to gather information. It had been 3 days during which the two of them worked until late and only slept for a few hours every day.
While the two of them were discussing how to deal with the new batch of survivors joining their base in Xun Che’s office, Chen Qianxiao opened the door and walked in with a folder.
Hearing the familiar footsteps, they didn’t bother to even look at him and continued with their discussion.
Seeing their haggard faces, Chen Qianxiao clicked his tongue and took a seat across from Wen Hanli. Placing the folder on the table, he said, "Both of you should take a day off and have a good rest. Otherwise, you will become bald before you even get a girlfriend."
The moment they heard this, both Xun Che and Wen Hanli glared at him. Pinching the bridge of his nose, Xun Che asked, "What brings you here?"
"That’s the information you wanted. Out of 34 spies, 19 were silenced. The rest already confessed. But from the 19 spies that were silenced, we found a small chip planted on the back of their necks," Chen Qianxiao said as he took a small box out of his pocket.
"I already sent 3 chips to the laboratory to find out their functions. The rest are all here, you can take a look," he added.
When they heard this, Wen Hanli read the information while Xun Che took a look at the chips. After wearing his gloves, he picked one chip and observed it closely.
After a long time, he suddenly said, "This chip looks similar to the one found on the alien’s body."
Wen Hanli turned to him and asked, "Commander, do you mean that the spies might have a connection with that alien?"
Xun Che shook his head and replied, "I don’t know if they were in cahoots or not. But I’m sure that they have a connection between them."
Chen Qianxiao smiled and said, "You guessed it right."
"Did you find anything?" Xun Che asked.
"After we learned about the alien, my team has been investigating their whereabouts and origin. Last night, one of my members finally sent some information back," Chen Qianxiao said solemnly.
After a moment of pause, he continued, "The Pei family has colluded with an underground organization known as The Light of Dawn."
"Pei Xun’s brother, Pei Gan, is the one controlling the Facility located at the Land of Snow. So far, we only know the rough location and haven’t found the exact location."
Hearing this, Xun Che frowned and said, "Didn’t he die a long time ago due to a car accident? Are you sure that this information is accurate?"
When Chen Qianxiao heard this, he narrowed his eyes and replied coldly, "Xun Che, my member risked his life to get this piece of information. I shared it with you just because we are old friends and have the same goal. If you don’t believe my team, then there is no need to continue this cooperation."
After he finished his words, he stood up and left the room without looking back.
When they heard the loud sound of the door being slammed, Xun Che let out a sigh and said, "He is as sensitive as before."
"You know how he was. Questioning his members’ ability is equal to questioning his ability. For someone as prideful as him, it would be weird if he didn’t get angry," Wen Hanli replied.
Hearing his words, Xun Che frowned and asked, "Old Wen, since the Pei family is involved with the Facility, do you think we can trust Pei Yijun?"
