Chapter 783: Mutant Bird

When he heard Pei Xun’s questions, Huang Weiguo nodded and replied, "The DNA test is here." As he handed over the document, he lowered his gaze to mask his emotions.

Pei Xun was too shocked to notice his subtle expression. He read the DNA report over and over again. After a long time, he finally closed his eyes and said hoarsely, "You can leave now."

The moment he heard this, Huang Weiguo gave him a salute and left the office. When he was alone, Pei Xun’s eyes reddened. Although he was cruel, ruthless, and cold-blooded, he still had feelings toward his only son.

Compared to others, his son was his chosen heir. He had been groomed since he was young. Watching him grow up from a little boy to an adult, it would be a lie if he said he didn’t feel any fatherly love toward Pei Yijun.

He thought that he would be able to hand over the base to him soon. Unexpectedly, he met with an accident and died during his mission.

While he was grieving in silence, his son, Pei Yijun, was busy killing mutant birds that had appeared a few days ago.

As the snow fell continuously, countless fireballs, wooden stakes, lightning bolts, and metal spears flew toward the flock of birds crowding above the Mountain Base.

Another thunderbolt struck the biggest mutant bird and left a deep wound on its wings. Feeling the pain, the bird let out a short, deep nasal grunt, similar to a bark.

The next moment, the bird opened its beak and threw several wind blades toward the guards. The wind blades were fast and sharp.

Seeing the incoming attack, Li Jing raised his hand, and in the blink of an eye, a metal shield appeared in front of them.

The sound of metal colliding with sharp objects echoed in the area. With a flick of his hand, the metal shield disappeared and changed into a long spear.

Before the mutant bird slammed to the ground, the guards quickly caught it using a net. Afterward, one of them carried the mutant bird to the side and stored it in a sack.

"Vice Commander, after this battle, we won’t have to worry about running out of meat to eat!" one of the guards shouted excitedly.

"Stop talking and catch more!" Li Jing shouted back and threw several mutant birds at the guards.

Not far from them, Li Yang and Chu Zhimiao were working together to catch the birds. Unlike Li Jing, who killed the mutant birds, they wanted to catch them alive. Since these birds were edible, it was better to catch them and breed them for meat and eggs.

Since they wanted to catch live birds, their speed was slower, and after a whole day, they only managed to catch a total of fifteen birds. Five of them were male, and the rest were female.

While everyone was focused on their own tasks, they suddenly heard a loud sound coming from the front line.

The explosion raised a thick cloud of dust. Before the cloud of dust disappeared, Pei Yijun jumped to the top of the wall, carrying a massive bird on his back.

When everyone saw the mutant bird, they broke out in cheers.

"The mutant bird’s leader has been killed!"

"Commander Pei is unbeatable!"

"Brothers, kill all of the birds!"

One after another, the guards shouted, and their morale increased instantly.

Pei Yijun wiped away the blood on his cheeks. After he removed the chip, there was nothing restraining his energy anymore. Not long after his recovery, he had broken through to level five.

The mutant birds attacking them were at most level one or level two. Only the leader was a level four mutant bird. After the leader was killed, the mutant birds wanted to escape.

Seeing this, Pei Yijun said, "Raise the pillars!"

Following his order, more than two hundred metal pillars embedded in the ground rose at a fast speed. The metal pillars were twenty meters high and made of metal.

One minute later, all of the pillars had circled the area. Raising his hand, Pei Yijun circulated his energy, and a thick lightning bolt struck the pillars.

The moment the lightning bolt hit the pillars, the electricity moved like a snake, connecting all of the pillars. In less than ten seconds, the area above the base was covered with a dense lightning web.

Whenever a mutant bird touched the lightning web, it would be zapped. Even if it was not burned to death, it would be stunned for a few seconds. This was enough for the guards to shoot the mutant birds with their ability skills.

Since the number of mutant birds was more than five hundred, they didn’t aim to kill them all but to cripple their wings so they wouldn’t be able to escape.

Trapped, the mutant birds let out panicked cries. Unfortunately, despite their desperate attempts to escape, they were still caught in the end. An hour later, the last mutant bird finally fell to the ground.

Seeing this, Pei Yijun turned to the nearby guards and said, "Clear the area and send the mutant birds to the logistics department."

"Commander Pei, we received news from Jiangning Base. Pei Gan was spotted a few days ago."

The moment he heard this, Pei Yijun narrowed his eyes. "I never expected him to actually leave the facility."
