Chapter 602.1
Chapter 602.1
Start of the Conquest (2)
The place we were currently in seemed to be a puzzle area.
The door Sakuya chose turned out to be the correct one, and the path continued smoothly, but soon we ran into a new puzzle ahead.
But it didn't matter what puzzle we encountered.
Sakuya didn't even bother to look at the puzzle. It felt like he somehow knew the correct answer from the very beginning. It made no sense.
Well, even if there was only a single door, and we had to press buttons in a certain order to open it, the puzzle didn't matter if we just let Sakuya do whatever he wanted. He still ended up opening the door.
I did wonder what exactly this child was thinking or using to get the correct answer each time? I couldn’t tell. Still, I was looking forward to the day when my son grew up enough for us to have a proper conversation about it.
If it were me designing this place, I would probably add an athletic area or two in one of the rooms, but at the moment, there were only puzzle rooms.
Thanks to Sakuya, we solved all the puzzles perfectly. I wondered what would happen if we made a mistake… but I felt that these puzzles would not kill us even if we got them wrong.
Of course, there was also a possibility that failing to solve the puzzle would attract guard golems, or we’d just get stuck in the room for ages, but I doubted that there was any kind of instant-death trap among the puzzles. It would also probably let us retry solving the puzzle.
That was because the puzzles here didn't seem to exist to keep intruders out, but rather had been placed precisely to be solved… as a prerequisite.
So I think that in the end, as long as we managed to solve the puzzles, we would be able to get through.
The thing about puzzles was that the maker wanted someone to solve them, but at the same time didn't want them to be solved too easily. That was how I would have felt, at least.
Moreover, if the only purpose of these puzzles was to stop intruders, they would have been made to be a lot harder to solve and deadlier.
Whatever the case may be, if the creator of this place –probably the Earth Goddess –could see us solving these puzzles right now, she would either be pleased that we were earnestly solving the puzzles she made, or indignant that Sakuya was completely ignoring the mechanisms and getting through, while shouting, "That’s not fair."
We all continued on, feeling a bit happy as we proceeded smoothly, and eventually we arrived at a place that looked like a large hall.
At the back, we could see a large staircase leading up, but there was one problem.
In front of the large staircase was a giant humanoid golem with a familiar shape.
A single jewel embedded in its face.
And having multiple arms.
"It's been a while since I have encountered something like this. Well, I could only say that it was the same type of golem, but with probably different abilities from the last one I faced." (Yuki)
–It was an Asura Golem.
