A Demon Lord’s Tale: Dungeons, Monster Girls, and Heartwarming Bliss

Chapter 602.2

Chapter 602.2

What was different from the Asura Golem I encountered with Rir last time was the type of weapon it was holding, and that this one didn't seem to be worn out yet.

It wasn't active at the moment, but judging from its placement… I guess we wouldn't be able to go further unless we defeat it.

"A gatekeeper, huh?" (Yuki)

So much for thinking the golems wouldn’t attack directly. Apparently, not all followed that rule.

That said, the fact that the Asura Golem was placed in such a clear manner, as if saying "Defeat it!", meant that whoever created this place obviously wanted to make things pretty challenging for us.

"Demon Lord, that is…" (Eldogalia)

"It's an Ancient Golem. It seems just like the one I've seen before. However, its strength is probably on another level. When I encountered one before, all I could do at first was run away." (Yuki)

"Have you ever defeated it?" (Eldogalia)

"Only once." (Yuki)

"Yuki-kun… it seems like if something like that got released into the world, it would probably be able to destroy a country on its own. If I had to classify it, it would definitely be a [Disaster Class] at the very least from my simple evaluation." (Eldogalia)

"… I think so too. Although I am confident that Lefi could beat it easily, it definitely deserves to be in that category." (Yuki)

"Yeah, I agree. Looking at it again, it's definitely in a class of its own compared to the golems I know." (Eldogalia)

The magic pressure it was emitting was on a different level after all.

… No, from my point of view, it was definitely stronger than the one I encountered before.

This was probably because of the difference between where both of them were kept.

The one I encountered before was left out in the open to slowly decay over time, its whole body was rusted and covered in moss and grass, but this one was kept indoors and was probably well-maintained.

I was hoping that we might be able to get through this golem without fighting because of the special armor we were wearing, but the moment I stepped inside the arena like space, the golem immediately activated, so I quickly took a few steps back to move outside the arena, and the golem returned to its idle state again.

… I see, so it was instructed to fight to the death anyone who entered its range without question.

If everything up to this point had been a puzzle-solving area, then this area was clearly set as a [Test of Strength].

–I had no intention of fighting it seriously.

If I did, I’d be risking my life. A head-on battle would give me, at best, a fifty-fifty chance.

No, considering that Rir was not with me right now, my chances of winning would probably drop to around 30% or 40%.

So I decided to analyze its activation conditions first.

Luckily, we had people here who were good at this sort of thing, so with the help of the members of the exploration team, led by Layla, we confirmed that, no matter what we do, golem wouldn't activate unless we entered its designated zone.

I tried to use magic power outside its range, but the Asura Golem didn't react. I then tried throwing a rock at it, and it shot a beam from its eye to intercept the incoming rock, but it didn't make any other moves.

And when I stepped into the arena, Asura Golem booted up again.

Initially I thought that maybe this area was designed to test our strength, but it turned out that this area was also designed to test our puzzle-solving skills.

If that was the case, then I had a simple solution.

"Everyone, step back." (Yuki)
