Chapter 939: The Betrayal That Cost Everything (I)
Chapter 939: The Betrayal That Cost Everything (I)
The Void was dark, but it turned darker.
Then it was illuminated by a total of eight lights gleaming through the space.
But they were no ordinary lights.
They were scythe arcs brimming with so much energy that the Void around them was devoured, its power harnessed into the slash, further aiding its speed, and it headed for the seven Ancient Devil Elders whose faces immediately changed to that of caution, but they reacted swiftly.
Each grabbed the other’s hands, the last two at the end stretching towards the incoming strike.
Then, they all uttered,
"Knullic Elder Art: Defending Palms of Satano!"
The words rang out like the echo of a thousand as a rift opened up above them, a massive palm covered in devilish runes slamming out toward the aproaching scythe strikes.
KAAAAABOOOOOOOM!
A terrifying explosion raged through the void as palm and scythe collided, and in the end, both exhausted each other before fading.
The elder turned upwards, finding Ryuk floating in the space while slowly withdrawing his arm from their slashing position.
"Hmph!"
"We seven, along with Knull, were able to take down even your father, Theth’Vorgath!"
"You think you have a chance at all?"
One of the Elders scoffed in mockery, but in the next moment, their faces changed.
They turned forward and found out a truth.
Ryuk was gone.
He had too forms one humanoid, and the other draconic.
His humanoid form had failed in his attacks, but the draconic form was nowhere to be found.
With eyes as cold as ice, Ryuk watched as the space between all seven elders was sliced apart by a humongous claw of dark scales.
Three shields hastily spun out from three of the elders who tried to defend, only for the shields to be cleaved apart as the elders were sent flying into the depths of the void.
When the claws landed upon the remaining four elders, they didn’t even see it coming, and brutally the claws raked through their bodies, slicing them into five pieces before the accompanying energy wave completely blew them into ashes.
Ryuk’s humanoid form took a step to the side, and he disappeared.
When he reappeared, his scythe cleaved forward, the same time that an elder stretched out his head from the Void, only for his entire body to be divided into two halves.
The remaining seven scythes spun in all seven hands, and seven images of Ryuk appeared around the elder, each one in a different motion strike.
"How... Laws... He’s slashing primordial laws..."
The realization hit Elder Hoitan, who watched as his body and soul were cleaved to pieces before he could even react.
No. He couldn’t react at all.
A force had enveloped him, stopping him from moving, while the rest cleaved through.
As a Knullic Elder, he had precautions set up to save his soul, but none of those worked.
Every lash of that strike fell upon his soul, and even barriers protecting his soul enough to give him a second chance for life were all reduced to nothing.
With regret and confusion, he was snuffed out of existence.
Six of the seven afterimages faded, leaving just one Ryuk, and he slowly turned behind, finding the remaining two elders that slowly exited the place.
One, an elder whose robes had been blown apart, revealing a figure covered in multitudes of runic tattoos.
It had a feminine body, but its true form seemed to be an ever-changing lock of runes.
The other elder was an old man gripping onto a pitch-black staff.
Both looked at him, watching the fading remnants of souls of the other Elders in shock, and Elder Satano looked forward to Ryuk.
"Eravel has betrayed us."
The Ancient Knullic Elders had been in the world for many centuries to count.
The arrays of techniques they possessed were beyond limits.
The forbidden arts that they had practiced in their endless times.
They had fought against even the notorious Knull of Carnage, yet their plethora of skills had made them survive.
A simple slash like Ryuk’s could never have made a mark on them, much less killed them, yet five of them had died.
There was only one explanation.
He had analyzed the weakness in their plethora of arts.
And in the end, his slash had accurately targeted that.
The only one capable of this was Eravel, the Logic Demon.
The one who searched for the history of the past, armed with a plethora of forbidden skills.
Eravel was aware of every forbidden skill in the Knullic Libraries, and the Elders had allowed her knowledge to even the most obscure of their arts due to one thing.
Eravel could not use the arts.
She could comprehend arts that would take others years to learn in the span of a few days, but she could never use them.
That was her curse.
And why the Elders had allowed her knowledge.
But now, Eravel had betrayed them.
She had revealed her secrets to this being who was slowly walking towards them.
And Elder Satano wasn’t wrong at all.
Ryuk had taken back his Logic Core and fused with it before he decided to take it off and return it back to Eravel.
But even that little second of having the Logic Core gave him access to all the memories that lay within.
And just like how fusing with Marionette gad allowed him power over every soul she had ever turned into a puppet with her strings.
Having his Logic Core back, even for that little second, gave him access to all the memories that lay within.
Including all of the memories of the ancient arts that the Elders before him had repeated to Eravel that they had practiced.
The shield they used to block the attacks, he knew how it was formed, and he knew the missing marks in them.
He knew the defense arts that they had placed on their souls to bring them back to life even after they had been killed.
And what was more, Eravel had spent her life doing just one thing, finding weakness.
She was the Logic Demon trying to make logic of things, including both their strength and weakness.
And Ryuk saw through the Elders’ weakness.
And naturally, he had targeted exactly that, giving him the power to end all of the so-called Immortal Elders with one swift scythe slash.
