Chapter 940: The Betrayal That Cost Everything (II)

Ryuk didn’t spare a second for them to get themselves together before he made his next move.

Eight arms gripping eight scythes, he flashed forward, appearing before them in almost an instant, but they also reacted.

The elder covered in runes raised his hands faster than he could move.

The runes on his skin interchanged, and in the next moment, Ryuk saw them grow more distant from him.

The space around him was being manipulated, sending him farther the more he wanted to come forward, and he had disappeared from their view in less than a second.

BAAAAANG!

A sudden bang, and the elder’s outstretched hands jerked backward, black blood spurting down from his palm, which held a scythe line.

"He... he broke through so easily!?"

Immediately, Ryuk appeared in the horizon, soaring forward toward him.

Five scythes were launched forward with speed, and the elder unconsciously took a step back.

All the scythes were before him before he could finish that step, and just as he was about to be cleaved to pieces,

DUUUUUUUUUUM!

A suppressed sound was made, and each of the scythes suddenly paused in the air, hanging inches away from cleaving the elder to pieces.

He turned away from the scythes and noticed the other elder.

It was Elder Satano, but now both of his arms rested upon his staff, whose bottom had been slammed onto the space, sending forth a ripple of interlacing dark runic lines.

They had somehow managed to halt the scythe before he could be divided into pieces.

Ryuk immediately switched his attention to Elder Satano, cleaving out all four scythes in his hands.

But time suddenly got slower, the scythes coming to a crawl along the elder, who raised his staff, gently stabbing it toward the center of Ryuk’s chest.

BOOOOOOOOOM!

When the end of the staff reached Ryuk’s chest, it released a terrifying explosion that erased Ryuk and the space at the other end, but it was only an afterimage.

RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIP!

The sound of space being slashed to pieces rang out as Ryuk’s arm, having turned to a blade, slashed toward Elder Satano’s neck from behind.

When it reached a meter around him, it paused once more as the elder raised his staff, slashing against the blade, but the blade cleanly slid over, continuing toward the elder’s neck.

Elder Satano hurriedly shifted his neck, avoiding the cleave just as another blade slashed toward his chest at the same time.

The elder took a step back, slamming his staff upon the void, and runes rushed towards Ryuk, halting his stab.

"Satano Artio," Elder Satano called out, pointing his staff into the Void above him.

CRAAACKLLLLEEE!

The sound of powerful, dark lightning rang out.

It descended upon the Elder’s staff, forming a layer of lightning.

He pointed the end to Ryuk.

"Darkio Lightnio Bind."

Ryuk’s air rose in alarm, and he shot back, but he had yet to move a kilometer when a lightning cage was formed all around him, encircling him.

He slammed into the edge of the lightning wall, only for his body to turn into a lightning figure as millions of lightning voltages rang through his body.

He tore himself out of the cage, floating in the center of the cage.

He threw one of his four scythes toward the edge of the lightning cage and watched it immediately reduce to ashes, showing just how destructive the cage truly was.

Turning his vision, he stared with furrowed eyebrows at Elder Satano.

According to the memories obtained from the Logic Core, he was the most ancient of the Elders, older than every single being present, with the only exception being Knull.

None knew what he was fully capable of.

Not even Eravel, the Logic Demon.

But this cage could never hope to hold him down forever.

------------

"You succeeded in binding him, Elder Satano."

The elder who had Ryuk’s four thrown scythes around him spoke, as Elder Satano slapped his staff forward to all four scythes.

When it touched them, they were reduced to nothing but ashes.

The tremor resumed normally, and the elder finally felt the hold on him fade away.

"Do not rejoice yet, Hamor," Elder Satano called, turning to Ryuk, who was a blur in the cage, slamming here and there, though to Hamor he seemed to just be wasting his time, as the cage wasn’t giving an inch.

"He will break out of the cage in twelve seconds from now," Elder Satano called out calmly as Hamor’s eyes widened.

"But..."

"He knows every one of the arts we have used and practiced, and the same for their weaknesses, thanks to Eravel."

"That means any art you may employ, he will be able to break it in at most five seconds."

"My Arkio Aratio is an art whose manuals have been lost, so Eravel did not truly understand it."

"Still, she knew the little pieces from other similar manuals, and that is why he would be able to break out of the cage soon."

He explained to Elder Hamor, whose brows furrowed.

"If we cannot use any art, then what are we to do?"

"We use an art that has never been recorded before, and never been studied by Eravel," Elder Satano said, resulting in Elder Hamor’s eyes creasing.

All of the Elders have always gotten their arts from the Knullic Ancestral Ground.

Even any art studied by a Knull outside the Knullic Domain must have a copy of it always be reported to the Ancestral Ground for future generations to study.

That had always been the law.

Eravel had always stayed in the Ancestral Ground, and that was because due to her ability to comprehend manuals quickly.

They allowed her there so that she could tutor other Knulls, allowing them to grow in power quickly.

That also meant there was no Knull art that they could employ, and she wouldn’t know.

"But Elder Satano. Is there really such an art?"

Elder Hamor said with doubt.

"There is one, I know..." Elder Satano said, turning to Elder Hamor.

The end of his staff stretched out, and he said to him:

"Hold the end of the Staff."

Elder Hamor listened without a doubt, reaching forth his hand and grabbing the edge of the staff.

"Darkio Devourio Artio... Knullio Sacrificio."

Elder Satano called out, and in the next moment, the end of the staff morphed into the shape of a pitch-black, devilish maw phantom that swallowed Elder Hamor with one gulp.

"NO... NOOOOO!!!"

His spine-chilling screams filled with the pain of betrayal rang out, but they were cut off soon as the maw chewed, dark blood raining upon the Void.

KAAABOOOOOM!

The lighting cage was shattered as Ryuk finally broke out of it just to be faced with the scene of Elder Hamor’s dying screams.
