Chapter 111 Part 1 – Me, Rejected? Impossible! (I)

After arguing with Tong Yi for quite a while, Jiang Li suddenly realized something—clearly, this guy was the one who had handed her over a large sum of money, and she should be the one feeling guilty about accepting it, but judging from his tone just now, why did he sound so much like someone who had borrowed money and refused to pay it back, and was even righteously confident about it?

“How exactly did you make all that money?” Jiang Li asked, full of curiosity. Someone who treated money so casually yet could make so much of it definitely gave off a baffling aura.

But Tong Yi completely misunderstood her. “You want to learn investments? If you really want to learn, I can teach you. Let’s throw some money into a few small projects first. If we make a profit, it’s yours. If we lose money, I’ll take the hit.”

Jiang Li sighed. “Big nephew, I believe now that you’ve made a lot of money. But you’re giving me so much of it—aren’t you worried about creating a cash flow gap for yourself?”

Tong Yi answered immediately, “What’s there to worry about? I’ve already made a detailed financial plan for myself. Even if I lose some money occasionally, it won’t hurt my capital.”

Jiang Li noticed how fired up Tong Yi got when talking about investment and making money—he was like a primary schooler seeking praise.

‘Hmm, can’t crush the kid’s enthusiasm for making money, she thought. ‘When praise is due, it’s due.’

Nevertheless, getting that much money was like holding something burning hot, though luckily the account was still in his name. Jiang Li thus decided to just help him keep the money safe for now, which wasn’t a big deal.

“Big nephew, you’re seriously amazing. I’ll just hang on to your dividends for now. If you ever run into… a cash flow problem in the future, just come to me for the money.”

She almost said, ‘If you go bankrupt from a failed investment,’ but realized that might be a blow to his enthusiasm and decided to skip that phrasing.

“It’s a dividend for early investment. They are all yours; feel free to use it however you want. It’s not like I’m short on cash,” Tong Yi said with the arrogant air of a big spender.

“Big nephew, I think you’re getting more and more arrogant lately,” Jiang Li remarked honestly.

Tong Yi chuckled. “We all have our own areas of expertise. You’re good at doing experiments and writing papers with Third Master Feng, and I’m good at investing and making money. How can that be called arrogant?”

Before Jiang Li could argue, he added, “For example, if you told me your goal is to win the Nobel Prize before you turn thirty, I wouldn’t think you were being arrogant at all.”

Jiang Li: “…”

To be honest, that does sound pretty arrogant, but she kind of enjoyed hearing it!

After ending the call with Jiang Li, Tong Yi hung up feeling completely satisfied. It wasn’t that he wanted to provoke Tong Xu—that guy had only himself to blame for his sneaky plans. The matter of donation this time was partly to get closer to Jiang Xiao Li, and partly to prove his ability to make money.

Therefore, it was crucial to make Jiang Xiao Li understand: giving her the money directly was much more practical than donating equipment to the school. As for who had real money-making skills… well, there was no need to say more, no?

After the call, Jiang Li decided not to dwell on Tong Yi’s financial situation anymore. Now that she understood how good he was at making money, the money on that card was just a long string of digits; no more, no less.

Wen Wan, on the other hand, couldn’t stay calm. Looking at Jiang Li, she carefully asked, “Jiang Li, I just realized you’re actually filthy rich.”

Jiang Li smiled and corrected her, “You got it wrong. I’m not filthy rich—it’s Tong Yi.”

Wen Wan stubbornly shook her head. “No, no, you are filthy rich enough. You’ve got 200 million in cash now, remember? I’m officially the best friend of a rich person—what luck!” Not a rich second-generation, but a real-deal rich person. That felt amazing! Even though Jiang Li’s money had nothing to do with her, just thinking about those numbers made her incredibly excited!

Jiang Li didn’t really get her best friend’s logic, but she nodded anyway. “By that logic, I’ve got a super-filthy-rich friend now. So next time I’m short on research funding, I’ll hit him up for investment—let’s see if he still dares to brag about zero-risk profits.”

Wen Wan grinned. “Even if he loses money, Tong Yi will definitely invest in you.”

After the stop at the ATM, the two proceeded to a few nearby boutiques outside the campus. As they returned, each with a few bags in their hands, neither noticing the car parked just outside the gate.

But inside that car, Tong Xu saw Jiang Li right away. He remembered her saying she had to tutor the girl next to her and couldn’t have dinner with him. But this? This was clearly a shopping spree with a friend.

The phrase “shopping spree” made Jiang Li seem a bit more down-to-earth than he had imagined. At least she wasn’t one of those girls who only buried themselves in her books.

Could it mean that she also liked the kind of romantic things other girls liked? Tong Xu couldn’t help but get his hopes up. Tong Yi had been visiting her frequently, making everyone think Jiang Li was his girlfriend, and she’d never publicly denied it.

But they weren’t actually dating, which meant he still had a chance.

If he confessed to her in public, would she also feel too embarrassed to reject him on the spot? If so, then it was his turn to make everyone think he was her boyfriend!

With this plan in mind, Tong Xu pulled out his phone and sent a text to Zhang Rongrong, asking her to help him find out exactly when Jiang Li would definitely be leaving her dorm.

After returning to the dorm, the first thing Jiang Li and Wen Wan did was take out their new clothes and cut off the tags one by one.

Zhang Rongrong watched them with an envious expression. Thinking of the text Mr. Tong had just sent her, she felt even more envious.

But… would Jiang Li accept Mr. Tong’s confession? After all, Jiang Li and Tong Yi’s relationship had always been somewhat ambiguous, and a lot of people already thought they were actually dating.

After the school anniversary celebration, classes returned to normal, and in the blink of an eye, it was the weekend again.

That Saturday happened to be the first day of the twelfth lunar month—Tong Yi’s birthday. Jiang Li had already decided that she would bake a cake for him herself on his birthday since he especially liked handmade gifts like that.

So on Saturday morning, after having breakfast at the cafeteria, Jiang Li got ready to head out and buy the ingredients so that she could start baking in the afternoon.

Naturally, Wen Wan, the ultimate foodie, insisted on tagging along. She even said she wanted to learn how to make a cake from Jiang Li so she could bake it for her friends later.

Jiang Li teased her, “You sure it’s for friends, and not just for Lin Zhao?”

Wen Wan mumbled, “I did say friends, so of course that includes Lin Zhao.”

Every time Lin Zhao was mentioned, Wen Wan would get especially shy. Jiang Li was long used to it. She couldn’t help poking Wen Wan on the cheek and teasing, “You’re just too cute!”

“…” Wen Wan was determined: ‘When Jiang Li finally falls for someone—or better yet, when she realizes she likes Tong Yi—I’m going to tease her every day, and let her know what it feels!

As soon as the two stepped out of the campus gate, they saw an unusual sight.

“Whoa, so many flowers and balloons,” Wen Wan exclaimed in surprise. “Must be another rich kid doing something romantic.”

Jiang Li smiled. “We’d better take a detour, or we might step on the flowers and ruin the vibe.”

A crowd had already gathered outside the gate. The confession looked like it was going to be a big deal, and Jiang Li had no desire to stick around and get hit by a random PDA.

But before they could move, the door of the luxury car covered in flowers and balloons swung open, and the onlookers saw a young man in a suit step out.

When Jiang Li realized the man getting out of the car was Tong Xu, she was quite surprised.

Seeing him walking toward her with a bouquet of roses, Jiang Li immediately had a bad feeling. Without hesitation, she turned to head back to the campus.

But Tong Xu noticed and called out to her, “Jiang Li, I like you. Please accept my confession.”

Jiang Li: “…”

Did Tong Xu hit his head or something? He was way too old to be pulling off such a cringey prank!

Worse, the onlookers were clearly enjoying the show. Many even started chanting, “Say yes!” and “Get together!”

Jiang Li frowned at Tong Xu. “I don’t think I’ve ever given you any reason to think I’d say yes, have I?”

Tong Xu felt uncomfortable seeing how calm and composed she was. But he knew this was a make-or-break moment—if Jiang Li didn’t accept him today, she’d be even less likely to in the future.

That thought made him lose his cool. He stepped closer, his voice softening. “Jiang Li, I truly like you. If you accept me, I promise I’ll cherish and take care of you for the rest of my life.”

Tong Xu looked heartbreakingly sincere, which only riled up the crowd even more. Their cheers grew louder, wave after wave, as if they were more excited about the confession than if it had happened to them personally.
