Chapter 111 Part 2 – Me, Rejected? Impossible! (II)
In his dorm at Capital University, Tong Yi was slumped lifelessly in his chair, looking like he had no bones in his body.
Today was his birthday, but Jiang Xiao Li hadn’t even sent him a birthday message, let alone given him a gift. Just thinking about it made him feel pitiful. Back when he was abroad, she would at least send him presents. Now that he was back in the country, how could she seem to have completely forgotten?
He overheard his roommates talking about how someone had set up a heart-shaped sea of roses and tons of balloons at the gate of the medical school next door—it was clearly a grand confession.
Tong Yi immediately chimed in, “Too tacky. Not even an ounce of originality.”
A roommate laughed and asked, “Then what would you do to make it not tacky?”
Tong Yi thought for a moment, “Start by giving her two hundred million. Cash.”
The roommate scoffed. “If you really had two hundred million, you could have any kind of girlfriend you wanted. Why would you even need to pursue a girl?”
The other chimed in, “If someone really had two hundred million, even if he didn’t spend a dime on the girls, they’d still flock to him.”
Tong Yi frowned. “Now that’s just going too far. And it’s blatantly sexist, too.”
The roommate quickly added, “Okay, let me rephrase. If a rich woman had two hundred million, there’d be loads of guys throwing themselves at her—she wouldn’t have to do any chasing either.”
Tong Yi shook his head and sighed, “Not everyone’s like that.” Take his Jiang Xiao Li for instance—despite being a money-grubber, she was strictly principled about it.
“Damn! Tong Yi, someone’s stealing your girl!” one of the roommates suddenly blurted out.
Tong Yi, still slouched, said dully, “What the hell are you talking about? I don’t get it.” He hadn’t even successfully wooed Jiang Xiao Li yet—how could anyone be “stealing” her?
“Jiang Li from the med school next door just got confessed to—super high-key. Someone posted photos and a livestream in the group chat. See for yourself!”
Tong Yi shot up from his chair in an instant. One glance at the phone screen, and he bolted from the dorm like an arrow released from a bow.
The two roommates exchanged looks, both thinking Tong Yi’s reaction was a bit much.
“Is Jiang Li actually his girlfriend?”
“You’ll have to ask that guy. How would I know?”
“I already asked him before—he just smiled and didn’t say anything. I couldn’t read him at all.”
“My guess is they’re still in the not-dating-yet stage. Otherwise, Tong Yi wouldn’t be coming back to the dorm on time every night.”
“Sounds about right.”
…
Outside the campus gate, Jiang Li frowned at Tong Xu. “I don’t have any feelings for you, and I’m never going to agree to date you. Please pack all this stuff up and take it away.”
When Tong Xu saw Jiang Li trying to leave, he quickly stepped forward to block her path. “Jiang Li, I’m serious about you. I hope you’ll give me a chance.”
The surrounding crowd started to hype things up again.
“This guy came early and had the whole thing set up, then waited here all morning—just give him a chance.”
“Yeah, you two look like a perfect match! It’d be a shame if you weren’t together.”
“It’s good for girls to be reserved, but don’t be too much—stop making it too hard on the guy.”
“Exactly. Being too reserved just seems fake.”
“Be together! Be together! Be together!”
There were also plenty of Capital Medical University students at the gate, and many of them knew Jiang Li. But because the crowd was too overwhelming, none of them dared to step in and help her out. Plus, the man confessing to her was one of the school’s sponsors. Offending him wasn’t something they could afford.
And what if Jiang Li was actually into this Mr. Tong? Then stepping in would just cause more trouble.
But Jiang Li had had enough of the heckling. She marched into the crowd and dragged out the loudest guy by the arm.
“If you like him so much, why don’t you date him? The flowers and balloons are all here—just say yes.”
The man she pulled out was a skinny, older student. After hearing Jiang Li’s words, he looked thoroughly embarrassed.
“That was a bit much, don’t you think?” he mumbled.
Jiang Li’s face was cold. “You know what’s too much? You all pressuring me just now—didn’t think that was out of line?”
Faced with her fierce presence, the rowdy crowd instantly fell silent, afraid she might start pulling more people out and publicly shaming them.
Tong Xu was also stunned by her reaction. He never imagined that someone as beautiful as Jiang Li could also be so fierce.
After silencing the crowd, Jiang Li turned to face Tong Xu. “You say you like me, but we’ve barely spoken a few words. Do you even know what it is you like about me?”
Tong Xu was slightly stunned, but he answered honestly, “When you were a bridesmaid for my aunt, that was the first time I saw you, and I—”
Jiang Li frowned and cut him off. “I wasn’t even seventeen at the time, and you were already in your twenties. Did you start liking me then? Don’t you think that’s ridiculous?”
Tong Xu: “…”
Just as this was happening, Tong Yi, who had rushed out of the campus, hopped on a shared bike, and pedaled as fast as he could, arrived just in time to see Tong Xu getting completely shut down.
Tong Yi’s heart finally settled. In fact, he started feeling like maybe his earlier panic had been a little over the top.
A middle-aged man standing next to him, seeing how out of breath he was, tried to make small talk. “You here to watch the confession too? Shame the girl’s got a bit of a temper. Probably no one will dare go after her again.”
Tong Yi shot him a glare. “She’s like a goddess descended to earth—why would she need a bunch of creeps chasing after her?”
Middle-aged man: “…” What the heck?! Are we not allowed to express opinion now?!
Tong Yi watched Tong Xu get shut down with no comeback and felt completely uplifted. He pulled out his phone, found Qin Zheng’s number, and called him.
The call connected quickly, and Qin Zheng’s surprised voice came through. “Tong Yi? You need something?”
Tong Yi smiled. “Not really. Just wanted to remind you—stop giving people advice on how to chase girls.”
Qin Zheng was puzzled, “Why are you saying this all of a sudden?”
Tong Yi said leisurely, “Remember last time you told me to use flowers and candles and all that to confess? That kind of stuff?”
Qin Zheng asked with interest, “Wait—did you get rejected by Jiang Li?”
Tong Yi snorted. “Me, rejected? Impossible! But some idiot followed your advice and got brutally shut down by her.”
Qin Zheng: “…”
“So yeah,” Tong Yi continued, with a mock-sincere tone, “for everyone’s safety, stop dishing out advice. You’re gonna get someone beat up one of these days.”
Qin Zheng was silent for ten full seconds, then said, “So basically… you’re too scared to confess yourself.”
Then he hung up without hesitation, suddenly feeling refreshed.
Tong Yi: “…”
