Chapter 115 Part 1 – She Got Drunk From Drinking Soy Milk (I)
After Jiang Li changed into her slippers, she turned around and saw Feng Qi standing in the living room. He was wearing pajamas, his hair slightly messy, clearly having been sleeping for a while. But what immediately caught Jiang Li’s eyes was the small cut on his forehead. Though it had already scabbed over, it was still quite noticeable.
Seeing her staring at his forehead, Feng Qi softly asked, “Why did you come back without sending a word?”
Jiang Li removed her backpack, pulled out a plastic bag, and said, “I’m here to deliver a care package.”
Since Feng Bai had mentioned that Feng Qi was injured, she’d stopped by the 24-hour pharmacy near the research institute when she saw it was still open, picking up some cotton swabs, alcohol, and an anti-inflammatory, pain-relieving ointment.
Seeing that he hadn’t treated the wound on his forehead, it looked like what she brought would be useful after all.
Jiang Li walked over, pulled her uncle to sit down on the sofa, and started disinfecting his forehead with alcohol, then carefully applied a layer of ointment on his wound with a cotton swab.
Feng Qi sat quietly on the sofa. Only after Jiang Li finished tending to him did he say, “It’s not safe for a girl to go out alone at night. Don’t do that again.”
Jiang Li puffed out her cheeks in protest, “You admitted to something you didn’t do in front of Grandpa is even more unsafe. Look, you even got hurt.”
Feng Qi looked at her with a soft smile. “Since when did our Xiao Lizi become so formidable, daring even to lecture her uncle?”
After tossing the used cotton swab into the trash, Jiang Li was silent for a long time before asking, “You told Grandpa you did those things because you didn’t want him to be mad at me, right?”
Feng Qi looked at her. “Is that why you suddenly came back late at night?”
Jiang Li mumbled, “I originally thought about calling you, but I knew you would definitely stop me, so I simply sneaked back.”
Feng Qi asked, “It was Feng Bai who tipped you off and told you I was injured?”
Jiang Li nodded. “Actually, there was no need for you to lie to Grandpa. I was the one who had Tong Yi do those things. If Grandpa got mad, it should be me taking the blame.”
Feng Qi pointed at his forehead. “If he gave you a hit like this, would you cry?”
Jiang Li hesitated. “Grandpa… probably wouldn’t lay a hand on me, right?”
Feng Qi nodded. “Yeah, he wouldn’t. But I think it’s better to let him vent.”
After all, Feng Qi knew his father well. If the old man found out that Xiao Lizi was behind Jiang Zhou’s arrest, he wouldn’t direct his anger at her, but he would inevitably have some emotional reaction.
This emotional state wouldn’t last long; the old man would soon think it over and would treat Xiao Lizi just like before. Even so, Feng Qi still didn’t want to see that happen. He wanted his niece to live her entire life in happiness, and for that to happen, he would gladly handle any risky factor for her.
“But Uncle, seeing you take the blame for me makes me feel awful, too.” Jiang Li looked at Feng Qi and muttered, her voice muffled. “I should go and tell Grandpa my reasons. He’s a reasonable person; he’ll understand me.”
“I forgot to tell you,” Feng Qi said with a smile, “I did arrange for people to keep an eye on Jiang Zhou. I was well aware of the trap Tong Yi dug for him, but I did nothing.”
Jiang Li frowned. “But…”
Feng Qi chuckled, “If you really insist on going to talk to your grandpa, that’s fine too.”
He pointed at his forehead. “If you do that, my suffering here would be for nothing. I’ve already made him angry once, but don’t worry, he’s still in good health. It’s fine even if you go and upset him again.”
Jiang Li: “…”
Feng Qi reached out and ruffled her hair. “It’s not a big deal. I know your grandpa best. He’s probably already regretting hitting me.”
“But…”
Feng Qi interrupted her. “No buts. This matter is already over. Now, hurry up and go back to your room to sleep. You have to get up early for class tomorrow.”
Seeing that he had arranged everything for her so clearly, Jiang Li knew he would never let her go and explain the truth to Grandpa.
“Uncle, why did you suddenly tell Grandpa about it? Is it because he’s investigating?” Jiang Li asked. If that were true, it would mean Grandpa planned to save Jiang Zhou—something she least wanted to happen.
Feng Qi shook his head. “Not your grandpa, it’s Tong Xu who’s investigating. Tong Yi and Lin Zhao are classmates and on fairly good terms. If Tong Xu starts with Lin Zhao, he might uncover something.”
“Tong Xu?” Jiang Li looked utterly shocked. “What right does he have… this guy is just disgusting!”
She had already disliked Tong Xu before, especially after he made that public confession; it only made her dislike him even more. Previously, she had used Feng Qi’s name to threaten Tong Xu, and he had quieted down. She had thought he had given up on his intentions, but she hadn’t expected him to do such vile things behind her back!
“He’s probably investigating just to get back at Tong Yi because he sees him as a romantic rival.” Feng Qi stared quietly at his niece, trying to find out what exactly was going on between her and Tong Yi.
While reporting Tong Xu’s matter, his assistant had also shown him a post on the campus forum, where many people were saying Jiang Li had chosen Tong Yi.
“Tong Xu is a lunatic.” Jiang Li frowned. “The reason I dislike him is indeed because of how he liked to belittle Tong Yi, but there’s nothing between me and Tong Yi like he imagines. Let him misunderstand if he wants; I can’t be bothered to explain.”
Feng Qi looked at her. “There’s really nothing between you and Tong Yi?”
Jiang Li said helplessly, “Of course not. He’s my nephew and I’m his aunt. Uncle, do you really not believe me?”
Feng Qi chuckled softly. “Of course I believe you. I was just asking casually.”
Jiang Li: “…”
‘Third Uncle, right now you look like one of those parents catching their kid in a puppy love situation, don’t you know?’
Seeing her bewildered look, Feng Qi reached out and ruffled her hair again. “Now, be good and go to bed. Kids shouldn’t stay up late. Do you know how to make the bed yourself?”
“I do.” Jiang Li nodded. After years of boarding school life, of course she knew how to make her bed.
“Then make it yourself. Tomorrow morning, you can sleep a little longer. I’ll call you when breakfast is ready,” Feng Qi instructed.
Jiang Li waved him goodnight and went to the guest room next to the master bedroom. She took out a comforter and bed sheets from the cabinet, made the bed neatly, washed up, and finally went to sleep.
