Chapter 123 Part 1 – Jiang Xiao Li’s Amusement Park (I)

After Jiang Li gave Tong Yi a scarf, he returned the favor by gifting her a silk scarf—one she had picked out herself, and he had paid for. When he made the payment, he casually emptied her entire shopping cart as well. When Jiang Li noticed her cart was empty, she immediately complained, saying that many of those items were duplicates because she liked to compare products before choosing the best one. Now this wasteful spender had just swept them all into a single purchase!

“Only ordinary people need to choose.” He grinned at her. “But our Jiang Xiao Li is a fairy—naturally, she gets whatever she wants.”

Jiang Li laughed. “My second aunt loves to call herself a fairy. If you said that to her, she’d be overjoyed.”

Tong Yi shook his head with a grin. “If I dared call her that, your twin cousins would probably beat me up. I’m not looking for trouble.”

Jiang Li didn’t continue the “fairy” conversation, but for the next few days, this little “fairy” was constantly receiving packages—making her seem quite down-to-earth.

Wen Wan loved opening packages and claimed it was great for stress relief. Every time a new delivery arrived for Jiang Li, she eagerly helped unpack.

When she saw Jiang Li had bought several different brands of lipstick, she muttered, “Are you planning to become a lipstick reseller?”

Jiang Li sighed. “I just added them to my cart. I hadn’t decided which one to buy. This is all Tong Yi’s doing—he cleared my cart in one go.”

Wen Wan gave her a mischievous smile. “You actually give Tong Yi access to your cart?”

Jiang Li replied helplessly, “He said he’d buy me a scarf. I picked out a silk one and put it in the cart, like he told me. Then he went and bought everything that was in there.”

Wen Wan said with envy, “He’s so thoughtful. I wish someone would spoil me like that.”

Jiang Li raised an eyebrow. “Isn’t Lin Zhao thoughtful enough?”

Wen Wan thought for a moment and replied, “I think Lin Zhao is more like a ‘dad-type’ boyfriend. That’s not exactly thoughtful—just overly anxious.”

Since getting closer to Jiang Li, Wen Wan’s personality has clearly changed. Though she still spoke softly, she no longer blushed as easily. Even when Lin Zhao came up in conversation, she could stay calm and composed.

Jiang Li rolled her notebook into a tube and held it in front of her. “Then let me interview Miss Wen Wan—do you like ‘dad-type’ boyfriends?”

Wen Wan pushed the notebook away with a smile. “Whether I like them or not, I’ll only know after I start dating. I’m still a single dog right now, so I’m not qualified to answer.”

Watching their banter, Zhang Rongrong couldn’t help but feel envious. After living in the same room for so long, she realized these two always seemed carefree and happy.

When Jiang Li had suddenly rushed home once, she thought something major had happened—like her family going bankrupt or there was a sudden death. But when Jiang Li came back, Zhang Rongrong overheard her talking to Wen Wan and learned it was just a small conflict between her grandfather and uncle, and she hurried home to comfort her uncle.

To Zhang Rongrong, only people who were truly carefree would see such a minor matter as something worth rushing home for. Those with too many worries would just dismiss it as trivial.

But the truth was, people like that were often admired by many—like Mr. Tong, who had donated a large sum of money to the school.

After failing to win Jiang Li over, he must have been hurt so badly, as he even deleted and blocked her contact info.

And not just Mr. Tong. His cousin, Tong Yi, was clearly head over heels for Jiang Li too. Not only did he constantly show up at their campus, he had even started giving her expensive gifts.

“Clearing a shopping cart” might sound simple, but Zhang Rongrong knew the items in Jiang Li’s cart weren’t cheap.

If she used to feel jealous of Jiang Li, now all that was left was envy. The gap between them was so big that any jealousy just felt laughable.

Even worse, Jiang Li wasn’t the only person who made her realize how unfair the world was. Even Wen Wan—naïve and scatterbrained as she was—came from a wealthier family than her and had a childhood sweetheart who doted on her. She really could be called a winner in life.

No, stop it. No point dwelling on it.

Rather than obsessing over things she couldn’t change, she might as well pour more attention into her studies and try to score a little higher in the finals.

Day by day, Jiang Li’s birthday was getting closer. The day before her birthday, she had already received a pile of presents—some from her current classmates, some from old ones. Of course, her family didn’t forget her birthday either, sending packages her way. Even her acquaintances at the research institute hadn’t forgotten and sent gifts as well.

Wen Wan looked at the mountain of boxes on Jiang Li’s desk and couldn’t help but exclaim, “Jiang Li, you’re really the group’s favorite. So many people sent you gifts!”

Jiang Li smiled and said, “I’ll send you something for your birthday when you turn seventeen.”

Wen Wan pouted, “My birthday’s on the first day of the Lunar New Year. Everyone’s with their families then, so it’s always just my family celebrating with me.”

“Doesn’t Lin Zhao spend your birthday with you?” Jiang Li asked.

Wen Wan immediately smiled again. “Of course he does. We live in the same neighborhood, same building. If he dared skip my birthday, I’d ignore him for three whole days.”

Jiang Li teased, “Three days is too short. You should ignore him for three years.”

Wen Wan thought for a moment and immediately shook her head. “Three years is too long—I’d be almost twenty by then. If I really didn’t talk to him for that long, he’d definitely end up dating someone else.”

Jiang Li: “…”

Well, this little girl only has one goal in life—to finally date her sweetheart. Principles? What principles?

Jiang Li received many birthday presents—but neither Feng Qi nor Tong Yi had sent one.

Tong Yi definitely wouldn’t forget her birthday. And even if he did, Wen Wan would remind him. So he was probably just waiting to give it to her in person.

As for her Third Uncle… maybe he was too busy with his experiments? If he really forgot, she could always call him after her birthday and whine a bit—then he’d surely make it up to her.

The day before her birthday, as usual, she was about to head to the cafeteria after class when Wen Wan grabbed her arm. “Jiang Li, let’s eat out tonight, okay? I mean, it’s your birthday!”

“But my birthday is tomorrow.” Jiang Li looked puzzled. She had already planned to treat her friends to a meal tomorrow evening since she’d received so many birthday gifts.

Wen Wan replied quickly, “Yeah, but strictly speaking, it’s only a few hours away. We should still go out to celebrate tonight!”

Jiang Li smiled. “I think you’re just craving something different, but fine—I’ll indulge you. If you say we’re eating out, then let’s go.”

Wen Wan let out a relieved breath. “I know you are the best!”

The two of them left campus together. Jiang Li thought Wen Wan would take her to the snack alley or maybe to try some newly opened restaurant, like usual. But Wen Wan flagged down a taxi instead.

Now she was curious, “Where are you planning to take me?”

Wen Wan’s eyes darted around. “Don’t worry—I’m not going to sell you off or anything.”

Jiang Li laughed. “Really? Well then, I’m looking forward to seeing what kind of trick you’re up to.”

She could already tell that Wen Wan was being deliberately secretive—likely because it had something to do with her birthday. Could it be that Wen Wan had prepared an extra surprise?

With that thought, Jiang Li stopped asking questions. After all, the truth would be revealed once they arrived.

What she hadn’t expected was for Wen Wan to take her to an amusement park. And not just any amusement park—it seemed to be newly opened, with the rides all looking pristinely new and untouched.

As they walked into the park, Jiang Li began to feel a strong sense of familiarity with the layout. The farther they went, the stronger that feeling grew.

After thinking it over, she realized why it all felt so familiar.

Some time ago, Wen Wan had been obsessed with a certain idol drama. There was a scene with an amusement park in it, and this silly girl had clutched her tablet and cried out that it was her dream childhood playground.

Back then, Jiang Li laughed and commented, “That’s not what I imagined as a kid.”

Wen Wan had immediately asked what her dream amusement park was like, so she simply took out a piece of scratch paper and sketched it out for her.

Her sketch had just been of a regular amusement park, maybe even a bit outdated. But because she’d been a sickly child and never had a chance to visit one, it held a special appeal.

And now, her childhood dream amusement park was standing right before her eyes.
