Chapter 123 Part 2 – Jiang Xiao Li’s Amusement Park (II)
As Jiang Li followed Wen Wan deeper into the amusement park, she saw a huge windmill at the center—and that’s when she knew for sure: this was exactly the one she’d envisioned.
“Didn’t you talk about this before? Wanna try it out?” Wen Wan pointed to a nearby water swing bridge.
Jiang Li: “…”
Did Wen Wan think her memory was that bad? Not just the water swing bridge—everything in this park was something she’d once described.
“If we both fall into the pool together, that’d be pretty thrilling, right?” She deliberately said to Wen Wan.
Wen Wan: “…” ‘It does sound thrilling—but in the middle of winter, maybe a little too thrilling!’
Perhaps it was the natural atmosphere of an amusement park, but Jiang Li was getting into a playful mood as she continued to tease her bestie, “Don’t you think this place is a little strange? The park’s open, but there’s no one else here. And none of the staff are trying to upsell us on rides. Don’t you think it’s suspicious? What if a serial killer suddenly shows up…”
“D-Don’t try to scare me! I’m not afraid!” Wen Wan clung to Jiang Li’s arm, clearly far less courageous than her words claimed.
Of course, the place didn’t seem eerie because of some serial killer. The real reason was that the owner of this amusement park had no intention of opening it to the public that day.
Remembering that, she immediately stopped shaking. She looked at Jiang Li and said, “I’m not scared, really. But that water swing bridge really looks a bit dangerous… why don’t we ride the Ferris wheel instead?”
Jiang Li shook her head. “No, I think the haunted house sounds more fun.”
Wen Wan quickly shook her head. “No, no, the haunted house isn’t fun at all… Wait—how do you know there’s a haunted house here?”
Jiang Li looked at her with a meaningful smile. “You think I have a bad memory or something?”
Wen Wan: “…”
‘I have expected Jiang Li to catch on eventually—but not this fast!!! And definitely not to be pulled into the haunted house along with her…’
‘That damn Tong Yi!! This is all his fault!!!’
“Actually, it was Tong Yi who wanted to surprise you.” Eager to avoid disaster, Wen Wan smiled ingratiatingly. “He warned me not to tell you in advance.”
“So Tong Yi is your real best friend.” Jiang Li sighed dramatically.
Wen Wan immediately tugged on her sleeve, acting pitiful. “Of course not! I just wanted you to feel surprised. Don’t be mad, okay?”
Jiang Li couldn’t keep up the act anymore and burst out laughing. “Fine, I’ll let you off the hook this time. But if you ever team up with Tong Yi again, I’ll go tell Lin Zhao that you li—”
“Don’t say it!” Wen Wan cut her off and even tried to reach up and cover her mouth. “You can’t tell Lin Zhao! I’m still waiting for him to confess first!”
Jiang Li raised an eyebrow. “Aren’t you the one who likes him? Why are you waiting for him?”
Wen Wan explained with complete seriousness, “Because it’s necessary! A brilliant hunter like me has to disguise herself as innocent prey—then Lin Zhao will feel like he really accomplished something.”
Jiang Li: “…”
‘What in the world? This girl must’ve been reading some bizarre online advice again—just like when she wore a bikini at the hot springs because of some sketchy article!’
Still, since they were already at the amusement park, Jiang Li decided to have some fun. She looked at Wen Wan and said, “Come on, ride the carousel with me.”
Wen Wan eagerly nodded. “Sure! I used to love riding it when I was little, but after I grew up, I started feeling embarrassed—worried people would think I was childish.”
Jiang Li smiled. “Do whatever you want. That’s not childish. The truly childish ones are those who care too much about what others think and suppress their own genuine desires.”
Wen Wan’s eyes lit up. “That makes so much sense!”
After getting on the carousel, Wen Wan couldn’t help but glance back at Jiang Li. She looked so genuinely happy—like a carefree little girl.
For the next ride, they chose the Ferris wheel, followed by a ring toss game, and even took a ride on the kiddie train.
When they passed the haunted house, Jiang Li couldn’t resist tricking Wen Wan into going inside. Only when Wen Wan was screaming in fright did she grab her and dash out with her, laughing so hard she nearly doubled over.
Once they were outside and Wen Wan had calmed down a bit, she stomped her feet and protested, “Jiang Li, you’re too childish!”
Jiang Li laughed. “But didn’t you think it was fun?”
Wen Wan paused for a few seconds, then nodded. “It actually was fun. Super exciting!”
Maybe it was just her imagination, but after that scare in the haunted house, she didn’t feel quite so afraid of ghosts anymore.
…
In the surveillance room, Tong Yi watched the monitor with a slight smile tugging at his lips. He had never seen Jiang Xiao Li so lighthearted and playful before.
Earlier, when Wen Wan was screaming in the haunted house, Lin Zhao had been ready to rush in and comfort her—but Tong Yi held him back. Now, seeing that she was perfectly fine, he finally let out a breath of relief.
Watching the two girls laughing so freely on the screen, Lin Zhao murmured, “I wonder what they’re talking about laughing like that. If only we could hear them.”
Tong Yi turned to him. “Why would you want to hear? That’s private girl talk. I’m sure they don’t want us eavesdropping.”
Lin Zhao raised an eyebrow. “You don’t want to know what Jiang Li said?”
“I do,” Tong Yi replied calmly. “But if she doesn’t want to tell me, I won’t pry.” He had always known that Jiang Xiao Li was someone with strong boundaries. She didn’t like others digging into her privacy, and since he liked her, he had to respect everything about her.
The only reason he’d arranged for this amusement park to be built was to give Jiang Xiao Li the joyful childhood she never had. His Jiang Xiao Li was so perfect—she deserved everything other kids had, including a proper childhood. Even if it came a little late, at least now it was complete.
And from this day forward, the amusement park had a name: Jiang Xiao Li’s Amusement Park.
Lin Zhao was momentarily stunned, then said awkwardly, “Wanwan and I grew up together. There’s nothing we keep from each other. She tells me everything, and I do the same. It’s different from you and Jiang Li.”
He wasn’t trying to pry into Wen Wan’s secrets—it was just that, in front of him, Wen Wan had no secrets.
Tong Yi clicked his tongue. “Are you sure you tell her everything?”
Lin Zhao nodded. “Yeah. She even knows how much New Year’s money I’ve got. She never hides anything from me either. You probably just don’t get our dynamic.”
Tong Yi looked at him with a sly smile. “Then whenever you had that… kind of dream, would you tell her too?”
Lin Zhao: “…!!!”
What kind of question is that? As a normal guy, of course he’d had some dreams during puberty. He hadn’t even seen the face clearly in those dreams and forgot most of it after waking up.
It was all perfectly natural. But how could he possibly tell Wanwan about something like that?
He isn’t a pervert!!!
Seeing Tong Yi’s smirking, totally punchable face, Lin Zhao frowned in disgust. “What about you? Would you tell Jiang Li something like that?”
“Of course not. Jiang Xiao Li and I have secrets between us. We’re not like you and Wen Wan.”
Lin Zhao: “…”
He really wanted to punch Tong Yi right now. But Tong Yi was just a bit taller and a bit stronger than him. If it came to a fight, he’d probably lose.
So forget it!
“I think Jiang Li is probably talking with Wanwan about what kind of guys she likes.” After a long silence, Lin Zhao suddenly said.
Tong Yi immediately turned around, sensing that this guy was probably about to say something annoying.
Sure enough, he soon continued, “An ultra-achiever like Jiang Li probably admires a person like her uncle. You know—the type who’s totally focused on academic research. They’d have so much in common, and it’d be easy and natural for them to get along.”
Tong Yi: “…”
This Lin Zhao… seems to seriously asking for a beating!
But today is Jiang Xiao Li’s birthday—not the right time for violence.
So… he would hold back. For now.
