Chapter 135 Part 2 – Definitely Not Like That (II)
The second time she walked into this jewelry store, Jiang Li noticed one of the salespeople looking at her with a bit of surprise—probably because they hadn’t expected her to come twice in one day.
Even though she was browsing the same products, Jiang Li’s mindset had clearly changed. Earlier, when she was shopping with her third brother, she had done almost all the work picking out gifts for his girlfriend, while Feng Bai had practically been a bystander. Even when he offered the occasional opinion, it was hardly helpful. But things were completely different with Tong Yi.
Whenever he saw a pretty piece of jewelry, he’d immediately stop and insist she try it on.
Since Jiang Li had just made several purchases earlier—and had bought two of each item—the staff naturally treated her warmly. Tong Yi probably looked like an easy target to them, because one of the salespeople practically stuck to him the whole time, recommending several items she claimed were perfect for Jiang Li.
“Jiang Xiao Li, what do you think of this bracelet? I think it suits you,” Tong Yi said, full of anticipation.
“What in this store wouldn’t suit me?” Jiang Li replied with a smile. Having said that, she still happily went to try it on. Once the bracelet was on her wrist, her eyes lit up. “It actually does look really nice.”
The salesperson immediately turned her hopeful gaze toward Tong Yi. “Shall I wrap it up for the lady?”
Tong Yi shook his head. As the salesperson’s expression began to fall, he added with a smile, “No need. Just let her wear it out.”
After saying that, he was about to pick out more items, but Jiang Li stopped him. “This bracelet is enough. If you give me too much, I won’t want to carry it all.”
Tong Yi nodded at once and went with the salesperson to check out.
After they left, another salesperson couldn’t help but mutter under her breath, “That girl wasn’t just pretty—she really knew how to work it. That guy didn’t even blink when paying.”
The girl who had pushed the bracelet responded, “That girl’s clearly from a wealthy family. The guy’s obviously a rich second-generation kid too. Giving gifts to his girlfriend is totally normal.”
The other one sneered, “Don’t assume she’s rich just because she’s dressed in designer clothes. Don’t forget she came in earlier with another guy and bought necklaces, hair clips, earrings—all in doubles. Bet she’s just going to turn around and sell everything.”
Her colleague argued back, “I heard her call that guy ‘Third Brother.’ They’re probably siblings. I think she was helping her brother pick out gifts for his girlfriend. As for why she bought two of everything—one for the girlfriend, one for herself. That just proves she’s from a well-off family.”
The other salesperson rolled her eyes but didn’t say more.
…
After leaving the mall, Feng Bai immediately drove to the residential complex where his girlfriend lived to pick her up for a movie.
His girlfriend, Zhong Yue, was a lively and cheerful girl. She was happy at first when she saw Feng Bai coming over with so many gifts. But after opening all the boxes, she immediately said, “You didn’t pick these yourself, did you?”
Feng Bai was stunned. “You can tell?”
Zhong Yue huffed, “Not only can I tell you didn’t choose them, but I also know the person who did is a girl—and a girl with great taste at that.”
Feng Bai was amazed. “Wow, you’re incredible. Tell me how you figured that out.”
Zhong Yue looked up at him. “Because your emotional intelligence is low. You’ve basically never gotten a gift right. Suddenly giving me so many perfect gifts? That’s just not normal.”
“…” That certainly stung, and he honestly didn’t know how to respond.
Zhong Yue elbowed him and frowned. “Be honest—who helped you pick the gifts?”
Feng Bai smiled sheepishly. “My little sister Xiao Jiang Li. She had nothing to do today, so I hired her as my shopping advisor. Smart move, right?” Afraid she wouldn’t believe him, he pulled out his phone and showed her the Moments post he had made earlier. “I blocked you when I posted this, because I wanted to surprise you. Didn’t think you’d still figure it out!”
That explanation finally smoothed Zhong Yue’s expression. “Then why didn’t you bring her with you? Don’t tell me you made her take a cab home?”
With her boyfriend’s EQ, it was entirely possible.
Feng Bai quickly shook his head. “Just as we were leaving the mall, we ran into our Big Nephew. He was shopping for a gift for his cousin, so I suggested he have Xiao Jiang Li help him pick something out—and squeeze him a bit while she’s at it.”
“You have a nephew?” Zhong Yue asked curiously.
Feng Bai shook his head again and briefly explained Tong Yi’s relationship with their family—how he used to be close with Jiang Li, and how they were even deskmates back in junior high.
Zhong Yue raised her eyebrows. “Are you sure this Big Nephew didn’t see your Moments post before going to the mall?”
Feng Bai blinked. “What do you mean?”
Zhong Yue rolled her eyes. “Think about it yourself.”
Feng Bai frowned and thought for a few seconds before his eyes widened. “I get it now! Tong Yi probably doesn’t know how to choose gifts either. He must’ve seen my post and used it as an excuse to ‘run into us’ at the mall—just to get Xiao Jiang Li’s help!”
Before Zhong Yue could comment, Feng Bai smacked his forehead in regret. “That scheming bastard! If I’d realized that sooner, I would’ve told Xiao Jiang Li to squeeze him dry of cash!”
Zhong Yue: “…”
This silly, sweet boyfriend of hers… his logic never quite aligned with normal people’s.
Maybe it was true that his so-called “Big Nephew” had been plotting something—but definitely not like that!
