Chapter 159 Part 2 – Give You A Hand (II)

Feng Bai nodded slowly. “You make a good point.”

Then he turned to Feng Song. “Go ahead and tattle if you want. Anyway, Xiao Jiang Li and I are on the same team. And if you do, I’ll report you for withholding information. We’ll see who gets punished in the end.”

Feng Song looked at him expressionlessly. “You don’t report me, I won’t report you. Unlike you, I’m not so idle.”

Feng Bai put an arm around Jiang Li’s shoulder and leaned in to whisper, “Your Second Brother’s actually the one with the most free time. He still doesn’t have a girlfriend—a miserable bastard, don’t you think?”

Jiang Li whispered back, “I don’t know if it’s miserable, exactly. Third Uncle doesn’t have a girlfriend either, but I don’t think he’s miserable.”

When it came to relationships, it was all about fate. If you haven’t met someone you truly like, dating just anyone doesn’t really mean much.

Feng Bai burst into laughter. “Third Uncle simply isn’t interested in dating or marriage. But this guy? He couldn’t get the one he liked. Totally different situations.”

Jiang Li looked surprised. “Second Brother liked someone?”

Feng Bai nodded with a grin. “When she liked him, he didn’t seem interested. Now that she’s moved on, he’s uncomfortable all the time. Don’t you think there’s something wrong with him?”

Feng Song said flatly, “I think you should shut up now.”

Feng Bai made a face at him. “I won’t. What are you gonna do about it?”

Feng Song: “…”

Feng Bai leaned in close again and whispered to Jiang Li, “Guys like your Second Brother are made for those ‘regretful male lead’ storylines. We’ll just sit back and enjoy the show.”

While Feng Bai kept rambling, Jiang Li found her thoughts drifting. She remembered something else: when Third Brother whispered in her ear just now, although it tickled a bit, she didn’t feel anything beyond that. It was completely different from when Tong Yi whispered in her ear.

Actually, she’d already run a little experiment with Wen Wan before and felt nothing then, either. Now that it was Feng Bai doing the whispering and the result was the same, she was even more convinced.

Repeating an experiment rules out coincidence. Even though it had only been two trials, Jiang Li already had her answer: her ears were sensitive only when it came to Tong Yi.

Truly, it was kind of frustrating.

Seeing her spacing out, Feng Bai asked, “What are you thinking about so deeply?”

Jiang Li snapped back to attention. “I’m a little hungry. Just wondering when we’ll eat.”

At her words, Feng Bai realized he was a little hungry too. He chuckled, “Should be soon. We usually eat around this time anyway.”

And he was right. Barely five minutes later, a servant came over to tell the three that lunch was ready.

At the table, Jiang Li noticed that today’s dishes looked pretty impressive. Her grandfather was already seated, and Tong Yi was sitting right next to him, smiling and winking at her.

She smiled back and, like always, sat next to Feng Qi. Tong Yi kept signaling her with his eyes to sit by him instead, but she deliberately ignored it.

Feng Qi naturally saw right through her little scheme. He chuckled softly. “If you want to change seats, just change.”

Jiang Li immediately shook her head. “I’m used to sitting here. I don’t want to change. Third Uncle, are you saying you don’t want me next to you?”

Seeing her put on a pitiful face, Feng Qi smiled and placed a piece of rib in her bowl. “Eat. No need to act cute.”

Jiang Li nodded quickly and gave an “oh” before starting to eat.

During the meal, she noticed Tong Yi was acting a little differently. Probably because he wanted to make a good impression on her family, he seemed a bit stiff.

She also noticed that her grandfather seemed to take this meal very seriously—he even brought out a bottle of vintage wine he’d been saving for years.

Jiang Li was of legal drinking age now, so a little alcohol was fine. On her eighteenth birthday, she and Tong Yi had gone to a street stall for barbecue, and she’d wanted to drink then too.

But she hadn’t liked the taste of beer—took one sip and gave up. Tong Yi ended up finishing the bottle for her.

However, the wine her grandfather brought out today smelled really good, and she couldn’t resist drinking a few more glasses.

Each serving was tiny, so she didn’t think she drank much, but Tong Yi clearly noticed that after a few drinks, her eyes started to look dazed. He glanced at her several times, clearly wanting to say something but not knowing how.

Feng Qi quickly picked up on her strange behavior too. He grabbed her hand just as she reached for the cup again and turned to the servant. “Go bring her some hangover soup.”

Jiang Li puffed up her cheeks and looked at him. After a while, she muttered, “I’m not even drunk…”

Feng Qi smiled and said, “Alright, you’re not drunk. I’m the one who’s drunk. Come have some hangover soup with me.”

Jiang Li nodded slowly. “No problem. I’m super loyal. Third Uncle is like my dad. Just some hangover soup—totally fine.”

Tong Yi: “…”

He honestly hadn’t expected Jiang Xiao Li to be this adorable when drunk.

Jiang Li seemed to notice him staring, so she turned her head, tilted it slightly, and asked, “Are you sneaking a look at me?”

Tong Yi’s mouth twitched. He really didn’t know how to answer that.

If it were just the two of them, he would’ve replied without hesitation: No need to sneak a look. I’m looking at you openly.

But with her whole family watching, there was no way he’d dare say something like that.

Seeing Tong Yi stay silent, Jiang Li frowned. “Stop sneaking glances at me, or I’ll beat you up.”

After saying that, she even raised her fist in a threat.

Tong Yi gave an awkward smile and looked over at Old Master Feng, mumbling, “I think she might be drunk.”

Jiang Li glared at him. “I’m not drunk.”

Then she turned to Feng Qi. “Third Uncle, I’m not drunk, right?”

Feng Qi smiled and nodded. “Right, you’re not drunk. If anyone dares say you are, I’ll deal with them for you.”

Feng Bai had been about to call her a “little drunkard,” but after hearing Feng Qi say that, he instantly shut his mouth.

He’d been scared stiff by all the overtime lately and had no intention of provoking Feng Qi again.

Old Master Feng looked at his tipsy granddaughter and was suddenly reminded of his late wife, who also had a terrible tolerance for alcohol.

And just like their granddaughter, she never caused trouble when drunk—just talked a lot. And, most of all, always insisted she wasn’t drunk.

Jiang Lididn’t think she was drunk. Her speech was clear, her thoughts were sharp—how could she be drunk?

When the cook brought over the hangover soup, Jiang Li immediately reached for the bowl. But she failed to hold it properly, and the soup almost spilled.

Feng Qi quickly caught it and brought it to her lips. “Drink this, then go nap for a bit in your room.”

Jiang Li frowned. “I’m not drunk. I don’t want hangover soup.”

Feng Qi coaxed gently, “Mm, you’re not drunk. This is my hangover soup. But you said you’re the most loyal, right? Then we share the burden. I drink half, you drink half, how about that?”

Jiang Li thought it over for a few seconds, then slowly nodded. “Alright, share the burden.”

She gulped down half the bowl, then started getting drowsy. She flopped onto Feng Qi’s shoulder and murmured, “I’m going to take a nap.”

Feng Bai looked stunned. “Xiao Jiang Li’s alcohol tolerance is really that low?”

His mother smiled and said mercilessly, “That’s okay. What matters is not her tolerance but her drinking manners. Xiao Jiang Li is adorable when drunk, but no one can say the same for you.”

Feng Bai: “…”

He rarely even drank—of course he couldn’t compare!

Old Master Feng glanced at his sleeping granddaughter and said softly, “Have someone take her to her room. Her alcohol tolerance really isn’t good. She mustn’t drink outside in the future.”

Feng Qi replied gently, “I’ll take her.”

With that, he picked Jiang Li up and headed toward the north attic.

After Feng Qi left carrying Jiang Li, Old Master Feng suddenly remembered her boyfriend was still sitting there. He looked at Tong Yi with a smile and said, “After lunch, it’s easy to get sleepy. Everyone should go take a nap. Xiao Bai, take Tong Yi to the guest room.”

Feng Bai grumbled. “Hurry up and get moving! What, you actually think you’re a guest or something?”

His mother immediately frowned and scolded her son, “Can’t you speak properly?”

Tong Yi quickly replied, “Third Brother and I are close. We always joke around like this.”

Feng Bai gave him a mocking look. “Then why didn’t you call me ‘Third Brother’ in front of Third Uncle just now?”

Tong Yi: “…”

I’m not you—there was no way I’d say something so stupid in front of Third Master Feng!

Feng Qi carried Jiang Li back to her room and laid her on the bed. After tucking her in, he was about to leave when he felt her tugging at his sleeve.

He looked down to see her staring at him with wide, round eyes.

“Third Uncle, I just dreamed about her,” Jiang Li murmured in a muffled voice.

Feng Qi figured it was just drunken talk, but still asked, “Who did you dream about?”

Jiang Li frowned in thought for a few seconds before answering, “I dreamed about another Jiang Li.”

Feng Qi looked puzzled. “Who’s the other Jiang Li?”

Jiang Li replied dreamily, “The one who was forced to donate her kidney. She’s your niece, too. If you had met her, she definitely wouldn’t have had such a miserable life.”

Feng Qi pulled the covers up around her and said softly, “Go to sleep now. Your uncle’s right here—no one would dare force you to donate your kidney.”

Jiang Li’s thoughts were moving slowly, but after a while, she nodded. “Mm. Sleep now.”

Feng Qi sat by her bed until she fell asleep. Then, he quietly left the room and returned to his own.

Once there, he immediately called his assistant, face cold. “How’s Jiang Huai been doing lately?”

Assistant Kong was momentarily stunned, but answered truthfully, “After leaving Minjiang, he went to Beijing to find Jiang Ruo. He got some money from her and started making small investments. He’s earned a bit.”

“He’s not even worthy of making money,” Feng Qi’s voice was icy.

Assistant Kong replied at once, “Understood, Third Master.”

A man (?) like Jiang Huai didn’t deserve to earn anything. He should live in misery and poverty.

When Jiang Li woke up, it was already evening. She rubbed her slightly aching head, got up, and went to wash up and change.

As her mind gradually cleared, she remembered drinking at lunch and getting drunk afterward. She didn’t even recall how she’d gotten back to her room.

Surely Tong Yi hadn’t carried her back?

No, definitely not.

With her whole family around, even Tong Yi wouldn’t have had the guts.

Thinking of that, she picked up her phone and called him.

The moment the call connected, Tong Yi’s voice came through the speaker. “You’re awake?”

Jiang Li replied, “Mm, I’m up now. Where are you?”

“I was just playing a round of chess with our grandpa. I gave him one hand, and we ended in a draw.”

Jiang Li sounded confused. “Aren’t you supposed to handicap with chess pieces? What does giving one hand even mean?”

Tong Yi couldn’t help but laugh. “If it were anyone else, sure, I’d give them pieces. But if it’s our grandpa, the best I can do is give up one hand. Otherwise, I’d definitely lose.”

Jiang Li replied helplessly, “Keep making stuff up! I’m not even gonna bother with you.”

“When we play chess next time, I can give you one hand too. How’s that sound?” Tong Yi’s tone was light and teasing.

Jiang Li laughed. “No need for that.”

“So confident?”

Jiang Li said, “You just have to use a blindfold. If you can still win under that condition, then I’ll agree to whatever you say.”

Tong Yi: “…”

Yep, that’s his Jiang Xiao Li—never lets herself lose even a little.
