Extra 3 Part 2 – Very Nice (II)

After receiving her phone, Jiang Li returned to her room and immediately logged onto Weibo to search for news about Jiang Ruo.

Even though she and Jiang Ruo no longer had any connection, she still couldn’t help but follow news about her.

What Jiang Li didn’t expect was that Jiang Ruo had been entangled in scandals for quite some time already.

Her status as an illegitimate daughter had been exposed, and not long after, the Jiang family went bankrupt. Jiang Zhou and Bai Guolin, in an attempt to obtain a kidney for her, ended up in prison. Even though both claimed Jiang Ruo didn’t know anything about it, no one believed them.

Jiang Ruo had signed many endorsement deals, and the companies all took her to court. Now she was facing massive penalty fees for breach of contract.

For a moment, Jiang Li could hardly believe her eyes.

So many things had happened in the short span of time while she was buried in her studies?

But with so much conflicting information online, she couldn’t tell what was true. After hesitating for a few minutes, she couldn’t resist reaching out to Feng Bai for the real story.

When Feng Bai realized she wanted to ask about the Jiang family, he let out a long sigh and said, “Even if you didn’t come to ask me, I was already dying to tell you.”

Jiang Li quickly learned that everything online about Jiang Ruo was true, and that Jiang Huai had really gone bankrupt.

There were also bits of news that hadn’t made it online. For example, Qin Zheng had tried to help Jiang Ruo, but his parents stopped him. They went to his university, processed his withdrawal, and locked him at home.

Later, when the kidney-robbery case broke out, Qin Zheng completely gave up on Jiang Ruo and went abroad on his own.

As for Feng Yun, she completely broke down after learning that Jiang Huai had betrayed her for years and raised his illegitimate daughter under her nose while her own child had grown up in an orphanage.

Her mental state deteriorated. One night, while Jiang Huai was asleep, she sliced his male organ, and afterward, she was admitted to a sanatorium.

Upon hearing that her mother was now in a mental health facility, Jiang Li felt a wave of complicated emotions. No wonder she had felt like Grandpa had been forcing his smiles lately—it hadn’t been her imagination.

After thinking it over, Jiang Li decided to visit her mother in the sanatorium.

But when they met again, she no longer had any expectations. The hopes she had once held for her mother were really just hopes for love. But now, her mindset had changed. She had a family who truly loved and cherished her, and no longer needed Feng Yun’s fickle love.

Yet when Feng Yun saw Jiang Li, she immediately broke down sobbing and begged for her forgiveness.

Jiang Li hesitated for a long time before softly saying, “In those four years at the Jiang family, I hoped so many times that you’d care about me, but each time I was disappointed. I don’t really hate you, so there’s nothing to forgive either. From now on… let’s go our separate ways.”

She had so much now that the past no longer felt worth clinging to.

What difference did it make, having parents or not?

After leaving the sanatorium, Jiang Li returned to the Feng home. Her two aunts had been taking her around to attend various social events, and she gradually began to blend into the upper-class circle.

In her second year of university, Jiang Li fell in love. Her boyfriend was the grandson of her grandfather’s close friend. He was a kind person and treated her very well. She was happy with him.

Her boyfriend had always wanted her to tell her family, but Jiang Li wanted to wait a bit longer—her third brother was getting married soon, and she was going to be a bridesmaid for her future sister-in-law.

Since it was her first time being a bridesmaid, she felt a little nervous. But Second Aunt reassured her repeatedly, saying the one who should be nervous was Feng Bai, and even told her to block the groom at the door and demand a bigger red envelope.

After hearing that, Jiang Li didn’t feel so nervous anymore.

The day before the wedding, Jiang Li went to her sister-in-law Zhong Yue’s house to stay over with the other bridesmaids.

On the day of the wedding, Feng Bai arrived with the groomsmen. Jiang Li only symbolically blocked them before letting them in.

What she didn’t expect was to see a familiar face among the groomsmen.

Her junior high school deskmate, Tong Yi, had actually come to serve as one of the groomsmen.

Back in the third year of junior high, after transferring schools, she had been assigned to the back row and seated next to Tong Yi. At the time, Jiang Ruo had warned her that Tong Yi was a delinquent with a bad temper and told her to stay away.

But Jiang Li soon found that his temper wasn’t nearly as bad as Jiang Ruo claimed. When Tong Yi asked her to help do his homework and offered to pay her, Jiang Li hesitated but agreed—because she had been wanting to donate money to the orphanage.

But when her father found out, he scolded her harshly and accused her of throwing away her dignity.

She had proposed ending the arrangement, and Tong Yi didn’t insist, which made her breathe a sigh of relief.

But Jiang Li soon noticed that after she stopped doing homework for him, Tong Yi never asked anyone else to do it either. Even when he didn’t turn in assignments, none of the subject teachers bothered to discipline him.

Instead, the students in their class, realizing that Tong Yi no longer asked her for help, began bullying her even more severely.

It was only then that Jiang Li realized Tong Yi had never actually needed anyone to write his homework. He had probably offered just to help her out, seeing how pitiful she looked at the time.

Unfortunately, she had completely missed his intention and rejected his kindness.

In his eyes, she must have seemed ungrateful.

Seeing Tong Yi again now, Jiang Li felt she should thank him. But Tong Yi didn’t even glance at her, acting as if he didn’t recognize her at all.

After getting into the car with the other bridesmaids, Jiang Li was taken back to the Feng family estate. Once the wedding ceremony ended, she saw the new bride toss the bouquet into the air.

What surprised Jiang Li was that Tong Yi suddenly leaped up, caught the bouquet mid-air, and then gave the young man next to him a provocative look. “I don’t think you’re suited to catching the bouquet. Staying single suits you better, don’t you think?”

He had noticed earlier that Tong Xu had been staring at one of the bridesmaids—clearly intending to grab the bouquet and give it to her.

Of course he had to stir up trouble!

Tong Xu glared at him coldly. “You caught the bouquet—who are you planning to give it to?”

Tong Yi froze for a second, then casually tossed the bouquet back into the crowd. “Let them keep fighting for it. I just didn’t want you to get your way. Got a problem with that?”

Tong Xu: “…”

Expressionless, Tong Xu turned away, silently reminding himself not to lower himself to Tong Yi’s level. Tong Yi was about to leave the country soon anyway—he wasn’t worth arguing with!

Having successfully annoyed Tong Xu, Tong Yi turned and suddenly noticed a girl in a bridesmaid dress standing next to him.

Huh? Isn’t this the same bridesmaid Tong Xu had been staring at earlier?

Jiang Li looked at Tong Yi and said sincerely, “Tong Yi, back in junior high, you helped me. I wanted to say thank you.”

Tong Yi thought for a few seconds before finally realizing that the girl in front of him looked familiar. A surprised expression crossed his face. “You’re Jiang Li?”

His old deskmate had changed quite a bit. He hadn’t even recognized her earlier.

But now that she was the little princess of the Feng family, it didn’t seem strange at all.

Once she saw that he remembered her, Jiang Li quickly added, “Back then, when you asked me to do your homework, it was actually your way of helping me. I understand that now. I just never got the chance to say thank you.”

Tong Yi grinned lazily. “Just saying thank you? How about showing gratitude with some action?”

Jiang Li was confused. “What kind of action?”

Tong Yi chuckled. “I’m the second in my family, so a lot of people call me ‘Second Uncle Tong.’ Why don’t you join them and call me that too?”

“Big nephew, aren’t you shameless?!”

Feng Bai cut off Tong Yi’s words and pulled Jiang Li over to his side. “This guy is our eldest sister-in-law’s nephew. In terms of seniority, he’s our nephew. So from now on, just call him ‘Big Nephew.'”

Tong Yi rolled his eyes at Feng Bai. “If you’re going to bring that up, let’s not chat anymore.”

With that, he turned and walked away.

Once he was gone, Jiang Li turned to Feng Bai and asked, “Third Brother, you’re not lying to me, right?”

Feng Bai immediately said, “Of course not. Our sister-in-law’s surname is Tong, and so is his. He’s her real nephew.”

Jiang Li nodded thoughtfully and murmured, “So he was trying to level the generation gap just now.”

Feng Bai chuckled. “After Eldest Brother married his aunt, my brother and I started calling him ‘Big Nephew.’ He’s been annoyed about it ever since. Just ignore him.”

Jiang Li: “…”

He did help her once, so ignoring him wouldn’t feel right. But calling him “Second Uncle Tong”? That was definitely not happening!

After walking away from the crowd, Tong Yi found his path blocked. He looked up and greeted the person in front of him with exaggerated familiarity, “Hello, Third Master Feng.”

Feng Qi: “…”

He was not in a good mood! Just now, seeing this brat joking around with Xiao Jiang Li, he’d nearly lost it and wanted to drag him over for a beating.

Xiao Lizi was Xiao Lizi. Xiao Jiang Li was Xiao Jiang Li. Couldn’t this idiot tell the difference?

Feng Qi stared at him. “Do you plan to stay in the country to develop your career?”

Although Tong Yi didn’t understand why Feng Qi was suddenly taking an interest, he still answered honestly, “I’ll come back in three years. Gonna surprise my uncle.”

Feng Qi nodded slightly, then asked, “Are you dating anyone?”

Tong Yi frowned instinctively. “You’re not trying to set me up, are you?”

Before Feng Qi could respond, Tong Yi quickly added, “If so, don’t bother. I have no plans to date. My goal is to be a groomsman until I’m sixty. That’s good enough for me.”

Feng Qi’s expression softened. “Never met a girl you liked?”

Tong Yi clicked his tongue. “Someone as outstanding as me, take the initiative to like someone else? There’s no way!”

Feng Qi looked at him with a smile. “Then prepare to be single for life.”

Tong Yi sighed. “Aren’t you also single? Why’re you picking on me?”

Feng Qi gave a cold smile. “I might be single, but I have Xiao Jiang Li to take care of me when I’m old. What about you?”

Tong Yi: “…”

After a moment, he replied with a blank face, “Tong Youyou, that little brat, will take care of me. No need for you to worry, Third Master Feng.”

Feng Qi raised a brow. “Tong Youyou told you that herself?”

Tong Yi: “…”

Feng Qi smiled even wider. “But Xiao Jiang Li did say it to me herself.”

Xiao Lizi said it too.

Tong Yi: “…”

Did I offend this man somehow? Why’s he targeting me like this?!

Feng Qi felt very satisfied with their conversation. After parting ways with Tong Yi, he saw Jiang Li and Feng Song whispering to each other.

He walked over and realized they were discussing her bringing her boyfriend home to meet the family.

In that moment, Feng Qi felt an unexpected sense of ease.

Later, back in his room, after washing up and changing into pajamas, Feng Qi lay in bed.

When he opened his eyes again, he saw his niece sitting beside him, clinging to his arm and crying.

For a moment, Feng Qi couldn’t tell whether the girl in front of him was Xiao Lizi or Xiao Jiang Li.

His instincts told him it was Xiao Lizi, but he had never seen her break down like this before. So he instinctively called out, “Xiao Jiang Li?”

It wasn’t until she laughed and cried at the same time, saying he scared her, that Feng Qi finally confirmed—

The person in front of him was his Xiao Lizi.

Very nice.
