After Transmigrating into a Cannon Fodder Real Daughter, the Plot Changes

Extra 3 Part 1 – Very Nice (I)

Extra 3 Part 1 – Very Nice (I)

Jiang Li grew up in an orphanage. From the moment she could remember, the ones by her side were the orphanage director Grandma Jiang and the other children who, like her, had no parents.

In fact, she had been adopted once when she was still very young. Her adoptive parents brought her home and, at first, they doted on her.

But later, when they had a biological child of their own, they began planning to send her away. They wanted to terminate the adoption, but the local authorities wouldn’t process it. Once they brought her back home, the adoptive parents began abusing her—beating and scolding her constantly, even falsely accusing her of stealing money.

She ran back to the orphanage in secret. When the director learned of her situation, she immediately brought Jiang Li back and personally stepped in to terminate the adoption.

By the time Jiang Li returned to the orphanage, she was already seven years old. Families seeking to adopt rarely considered children her age, afraid they’d be “too hard to raise.”

Jiang Li never hoped to be adopted again. She focused on studying hard, determined to change her fate through education.

At fifteen, her biological parents found her. Only then did she learn she hadn’t been abandoned—they had been given the wrong child at birth. She was supposed to have been the daughter of a wealthy family.

The day she was brought home, Jiang Li was filled with hope for the future. She thought she finally had parents who would love her.

But she quickly realized: while she had only one father and one mother, her parents didn’t have just one child.

She could understand her parents’ favoring her older brother over her. But what she couldn’t understand was how they spoiled Jiang Ruo with everything, while constantly overlooking her own feelings.

Even worse was Jiang Zhou, her biological older brother. He treated her like an intruder, always believing she would steal things from Jiang Ruo.

But those things… had rightfully belonged to her in the first place!

Over the four years she spent in the Jiang family, she’d already learned that she could never compete with Jiang Ruo and had long accepted that reality.

After Jiang Ruo was diagnosed with chronic kidney failure, Jiang Li agreed to donate a kidney. It was only because she saw how torn her mother was. She thought that if she agreed to donate, her mother might feel guilty enough to give her a little love in return.

But now, Jiang Li realized. She didn’t only have the Jiang family as her relatives; she also had a Third Uncle.

Her Third Uncle treated her very well. He was willing to take her in and even stand up against the Jiang family for her. He even took her shopping.

Her mother used to take her shopping too, but always brought Jiang Ruo along. Seeing how close the two of them were always made Jiang Li feel left out.

But Third Uncle was different. He only brought her. When she tried on clothes, he gave thoughtful advice and praised her naturally, telling her she looked cute.

After reuniting with her Third Uncle, Jiang Li was still basking in the joy of it all when he said he was taking her home.

She looked surprised. “Isn’t that house in the research institute your home?”

Feng Qi explained, “That’s just the staff housing provided by the institute. I’m taking you to the family estate now—to meet your grandfather, your other two uncles, and your three cousins. They’re not much older than you.”

Jiang Li: “…”

She… had that many relatives?

But if they had no prior connection with the Jiang family, their relationship probably wasn’t very good. Would they dislike her because of that?

Feng Qi saw her concern immediately and reassured her, “Don’t worry. They won’t dislike you. And they won’t hold anything against you just because of the Jiang family.”

Jiang Li quickly nodded and whispered, “I got it, Uncle. I’ll try my best to behave.”

Back at the Jiang house, not a single person liked her, and she endured it. Now that she was going back with Third Uncle to the Feng family, even if no one else liked her, as long as he was good to her, that would be enough.

Jiang Li had expected that once she arrived at the Feng family, if her relatives didn’t like her, she would just try to be invisible so as not to bother anyone.

But what she didn’t expect… was that everyone in the house liked her. Especially her grandfather, who spoke to her with the utmost gentleness, as if afraid she’d feel out of place.

Grandpa even sighed more than once, saying if only they’d found her earlier, she wouldn’t have had to suffer so much.

Jiang Li couldn’t help but think: if she hadn’t kept quiet all that time… if she had fought back against the Jiang family and caused a scene, maybe Grandpa and Third Uncle would’ve found her sooner.

But life didn’t work like that. Back then, she hadn’t dared to tell anyone about her identity because Jiang Zhou had threatened her.

She was truly terrified that if she told the truth, her father would have her sent to a psychiatric hospital.

Now, she didn’t have to worry at all. She had so many family members. And every single one of them was far more powerful than her father.

The two other uncles in the family were both gentle in temperament, and their wives were especially kind to her. Second Aunt would chat with her about daily life and even help her pick out outfits and hire stylists for her.

Her three cousins were all great people, too. But Grandpa didn’t let her call them “cousin”—he said they were family and should simply be called Eldest Brother, Second Brother, and Third Brother.

Eldest Brother was easygoing and inherited his looks from his mother. When he smiled, he had two dimples, which made him look especially adorable.

Second Brother was more quiet and reserved, but very thoughtful. Many times, he understood what she was thinking before she even said a word.

Third Brother is the most lively person in the family. He has a carefree and easygoing personality. Jiang Li feels very relaxed when he is with him.

Everyone in the family called her “Xiao Jiang Li,” and later, even her Third Uncle began calling her that, too.

Through the chatty Feng Bai, Jiang Li quickly learned the basics of the family. She realized everyone in the household was incredibly accomplished. Compared to them, she felt like an utterly average nobody.

And yet, despite this, Grandpa still organized a family introduction banquet for her. He invited many guests to the house and introduced her to them one by one.

Jiang Li knew her family didn’t look down on her, but she still wanted to work hard. Even if she could never catch up to them in this lifetime, she wanted to make herself just a little less useless.

Feng Song quickly saw through her thoughts and came to chat with her, asking what her plans were for the future.

After a long silence, Jiang Li asked, “What if I said… I want to drop out and repeat one year to take the college entrance exam again… would you think I’m being unrealistic?”

She had performed poorly on last year’s college entrance exam and was only able to attend a vocational college. But Jiang Li believed she wasn’t meant to be stuck like that.

Back in her county high school, her grades had consistently ranked among the top three in her year. Getting into a key high school had never been a problem.

But after returning to the Jiang family, her life was turned upside down, and her grades plummeted. Her three years of high school had essentially gone to waste.

When the college entrance exam results came out, she had thought about repeating the year. She had even brought it up to her mother, but once her father learned of it, he gave her no support at all.

He said she had no talent, and even if she repeated the year, her grades wouldn’t improve much. He said it would just make her a laughingstock.

After that, she no longer dared to bring up the idea.

Now that she was in the Feng family, everyone treated her so well. But… would they understand her decision?

Seeing how tense she looked, Feng Song spoke gently: “You just want to make up for a regret, what’s unrealistic about that?”

Jiang Li’s eyes lit up. “You really think so, Second Brother?”

Feng Song smiled and nodded. “Of course. Your second brother supports your decision.”

Jiang Li quickly realized that when Feng Song said he supported her, he didn’t just mean it verbally. He immediately informed the whole family of her decision, and everyone began helping her choose a school to repeat the year.

Grandpa was the most proactive. He swiftly helped her complete the withdrawal process from her current college and arranged for her to enroll in a new prep school.

As a repeat student, she would usually attend a private institution. Grandpa selected Minjiang International School for her and even hired several tutors to help her catch up.

Considering her academic level, Feng Song suggested, “Let’s have the tutors come to the house and help Xiao Jiang Li for two months first. She can take this year’s college entrance exam as a trial run. Once the results come out, we can see which class would suit her best.”

Jiang Li had no objections. She actually wanted to know what kind of score she could achieve after two months of focused study.

Feng Qi suddenly spoke up: “Since you’ve decided to repeat the year, let’s take your phone away for now—less distractions. After the exam, I’ll buy you the latest model.”

Jiang Li nodded immediately. “Okay.”

Old Master Feng exchanged a glance with his youngest son and instantly understood his intention. A’Qi clearly didn’t want her to have any further contact with the Jiang family.

Thinking of all the disgusting things Jiang Huai had done, Old Master Feng had no objections.

As for his own disappointing daughter… she had failed in her duty as a mother. Even if she regretted it now, Xiao Jiang Li had no obligation to forgive her.

Jiang Li was unaware of what the rest of the family was thinking. Once she had made up her mind to retake the college entrance exam, she focused all her energy on studying and ignored everything else.

Feng Bai, who had just gotten a new sister, quickly found that she had become completely occupied. He wasn’t used to it, but Feng Song gave him a warning glance: “Don’t disturb Xiao Jiang Li’s studying.”

Feng Bai argued, “Even with studying, you still need to balance work and rest, right? I think—”

Feng Song cut him off, “Xiao Jiang Li is different from us. Don’t use your standards to judge her.”

For everyone in the Feng family, studying came easily. For Feng Bai and Feng Song, memorizing a text took only two or three reads at most. But Jiang Li was different. Feng Song had asked the tutors about her situation, and while all of them praised her for being diligent and hardworking, none described her as particularly smart.

According to the teachers, if she kept up her current pace, even if she couldn’t get into the top-of-the-top, a relatively high-tier university was very much within reach.

Under those circumstances, there was no way Feng Song would allow Feng Bai to interrupt her.

Feng Bai’s shoulders slumped. “Alright, I won’t bother her. But the Jiang family’s been having a string of bad luck lately. Don’t you think we should tell her the good news?”

Feng Song gave him a side-eye. “What do you think Third Uncle confiscated her phone for?”

Feng Bai replied immediately, “Obviously so she could focus on studying. But I’m honestly surprised at how much Third Uncle cares about her.”

Feng Song gave a half-smile. “If you got a gender reassignment surgery, Third Uncle might start treating you differently, too.”

Feng Bai: “…” Can’t we just have a normal conversation?!

Feng Song patted his twin on the shoulder. “Seriously, don’t go near Xiao Jiang Li. Third Uncle took her phone away so the Jiang family can’t contact her anymore. If you go blabbing about things in front of her, don’t expect him to let you off easy.”

Feng Bai protested, “But I still think if she knew the Jiang family was getting what they deserve, she’d be really happy.”

Feng Song shook his head. “If she hears about that now, she’ll lose focus. It’ll affect her studies.”

Feng Bai sighed in defeat. “Fine, fine, I won’t say anything. I’ll just go share the good news with Yueyue instead!”

Feng Song: “…”

Do you really need to show off your relationship 24/7?!

The chaos of the Jiang family had nothing to do with Jiang Li. Naturally, she didn’t know that both Jiang Huai and Jiang Zhou had gone to her college looking for her, only to find out she had already withdrawn.

After that, everyone in the Jiang family assumed the Feng family had sent her abroad. Since they couldn’t contact her, they had no way to bother her.

Jiang Li focused wholeheartedly on her tutoring sessions, and it wasn’t until two months later that she finally stepped out of the Feng family estate to take the college entrance exam.

When the results came out, she found she had missed the key university cutoff by just three points. She was so overwhelmed she nearly cried.

That evening, Feng Qi came to talk to her and asked whether she wanted to keep studying with tutors or enroll in a school.

Jiang Li hesitated for a while before asking, “I… I can really not go to school?”

Feng Qi nodded. “Of course. You can decide for yourself.”

Jiang Li truly didn’t want to go to school. She was afraid of Jiang Ruo’s fans. If she could keep studying at home, that was naturally her preference.

With her family’s full support, Jiang Li studied at home for an entire year.

At age twenty, she took the college entrance exam for the third time. When her results came out, she had scored a full 100 points above the key university cutoff.

On her family’s suggestion, she chose Minjiang University because her grandfather wanted her to stay closer to home.

The moment she received her admission letter, Feng Qi gave her the latest smartphone and a car, telling her to take her driver’s license test over the summer.

After receiving her phone, Jiang Li returned to her room and immediately logged onto Weibo to search for news about Jiang Ruo.

Even though she and Jiang Ruo no longer had any connection, she still couldn’t help but follow news about her.

What Jiang Li didn’t expect was that Jiang Ruo had been entangled in scandals for quite some time already.
