Chapter 1299: Weapons for Hunting Vampires
Chapter 1299: Weapons for Hunting Vampires
“If Vampires have truly returned, we will need to awaken the old formations as well.”
Arthur looked toward the enormous formation behind the crystal.
“What exactly does it do?”
The old Dwarf smiled faintly.
“Would you like to see?”
Mordred immediately became interested. “Of course.”
The old Dwarf glanced at him.
“I wasn’t asking you.”
Mordred’s expression froze.
Arthur sighed before answering, “He wants to see it.”
“Then he should stop looking like a frightened child.”
“I’m not frightened.”
The old Dwarf grinned and nodded…
“Good.”
Just like that, he turned toward the other Dwarves and gave them a simple command.
“Open the testing chamber.”
Several Dwarves immediately moved into action. They approached one of the massive walls and activated a formation, causing a section of stone to slowly slide aside and reveal another enormous passage behind it.
Arthur and Mordred followed the old Dwarf through the passage.
The farther they went, the deeper they traveled beneath the underground city. The sound of the forges gradually disappeared behind them, replaced by the hum of countless formations hidden within the walls.
After several minutes, the passage finally opened into a massive underground chamber.
Mordred stopped the moment he entered.
The chamber was even larger than the Guardian Hall.
The ceiling was so high that he could barely see it, while enormous metallic pillars stretched from the floor to support the vast structure above them.
Unsurprisingly, hundreds of glowing crystals had been embedded into the walls, illuminating a massive circular platform at the center of the chamber.
Several Dwarves were already waiting around it. Some wore heavy armor, while others carried strange mechanical devices that Mordred could not identify.
He looked around in amazement.
“What is this place?”
“The testing grounds,” the old Dwarf answered.
“For weapons?”
“For everything.”
The Dwarf walked toward the center of the chamber.
“We test weapons, formations, armor, defensive systems, sealing techniques, and anything else that might be useful when something decides to destroy the surface world.”
Mordred stared at him.
“You really expect that to happen?”
The old Dwarf gave him an annoyed look.
“You’re a knight, aren’t you?”
“Yes.”
“Then why are you asking stupid questions?”
Mordred immediately fell silent.
Arthur couldn’t help but smile faintly.
The old Dwarf raised his hand, and the enormous circular platform suddenly lit up. Countless runes appeared across its surface, forming several layers of intricate formations.
A section of the platform then moved, and a metal cage slowly rose from beneath the ground.
Something moved inside.
Mordred frowned after realizing what was going on…
A Vampire was trapped inside the cage!
Its eyes were blood-red, and its sharp fangs were clearly visible as it gripped the metal bars and snarled at everyone around it.
“Where did you get that?” Mordred asked.
Arthur’s expression also changed slightly.
The old Dwarf shrugged.
“Your kingdoms have been sending us captured supernatural creatures for centuries.”
Mordred looked toward Arthur.
“Does the king know about this?”
Arthur nodded.
“Of course.”
The old Dwarf grinned.
“Good. At least one human here understands how the Pact works.”
He turned toward the cage.
“Release it.”
One of the Dwarves immediately pulled a lever…
The cage opened, and the Vampire rushed forward.
“Raah!”
It moved so quickly that Mordred could barely follow its movements with his eyes. However, before it could leave the platform, countless runes suddenly activated beneath its feet.
A powerful wave of golden light erupted from the ground.
The Vampire screamed as its body began to smoke.
Mordred’s eyes widened.
“It didn’t even touch it.”
“No.”
The old Dwarf folded his arms.
“The formation doesn’t attack the body. It attacks the blood.”
The golden light continued spreading through the Vampire’s body, interfering with its regeneration and causing its movements to become increasingly sluggish.
The Dwarf looked toward Mordred.
“That’s the first thing you need to understand. Vampires aren’t dangerous simply because they are strong. They are dangerous because they can recover from injuries that would kill almost anything else.”
He paused before continuing.
“And because every person they turn becomes another weapon.”
Arthur’s expression became serious.
“Blood conversion.”
The Dwarf nodded.
“That’s right…”
The Vampire suddenly collapsed onto the ground. It was still alive, but it could barely move.
Mordred then looked at the formation beneath it.
“So this can weaken them.”
“Only ordinary Vampires… That is why I asked how many appeared.”
Arthur immediately understood what he was implying.
“You think there may be a True Vampire behind them… A Vampire Lord perhaps?”
“I think it’s possible.”
The Dwarf turned toward him.
“And if there is one, these formations won’t be enough.”
Arthur’s eyes narrowed.
“Then what will be?”
The old Dwarf smiled.
“Now you’re asking the right question.”
He turned around and walked toward the opposite side of the chamber.
A massive metal door stood there. Unlike the other doors they had passed, this one had no handle and no visible hinges. Countless ancient runes covered its entire surface, forming a complicated formation that seemed to have been carved directly into the metal.
Mordred stared at it.
“What is behind that door?”
The old Dwarf didn’t answer immediately.
Instead, he placed his palm against the surface and soon, the runes began to glow one after another.
A low rumbling sound spread through the chamber, and the ground beneath their feet began to tremble.
Several Dwarves immediately stopped what they were doing and turned toward the door.
Even Arthur’s expression changed slightly.
The old Dwarf looked back at them.
“This is the reason the Guardians have survived for thousands of years.”
The massive door slowly began to open.
A tremendous pressure suddenly spread throughout the chamber.
Mordred instinctively placed his hand on his sword, but Arthur remained completely still.
Beyond the door was a massive armory.
Weapons filled the enormous chamber as far as the eye could see. There were swords, spears, hammers, shields, crossbows, suits of armor, strange crystals, staffs, and enormous machines that Mordred couldn’t even begin to identify.
However, these weapons were different from the ones they had seen earlier.
Every single one carried an aura that made Mordred’s skin crawl.
The old Dwarf stepped inside.
“The weapons in the Guardian Hall are for ordinary threats.”
He looked toward the endless armory.
“These were created for things that once nearly destroyed the continent.”
Arthur stared at the countless weapons.
“How many of them can still be used?”
The old Dwarf smiled.
“All of them.”
Mordred’s eyes widened.
“All?”
