Chapter 1967: The Last Grandmaster
Chapter 1967: The Last Grandmaster
Tang Shaoyang slowly turned toward the statue that spoke with curiosity. He checked the statue with his Chaos Eyes and found the glowing core on the statue’s right chest that was not there before.
"It only shows the core when it is active," He muttered in a low voice, and the moment he mentioned the core, the two stone statues were alerted. They raised their stone spears at him altogether as if he had done something wrong that triggered such action.
[These two statues could be considered as a Golem.] Vandir commented in his head, [They are like my undead, similar in a sense. They can be made and activated with a core, then you can set up some kind of command for them.]
[I know you are different, Doru. You are a natural Golem, not created, but you can’t deny that there are Golems that can be created, many of them!]
Doru the Golem King complained to Vandir, but then the Golem went silent after Vandir explained further. This was something new to Tang Shaoyang. He thought a Golem was formed naturally, not made. He regarded a Golem as one of the mythical races, something similar to Radiance, the creature made of ice.
[It’s rude to mistake my race with Golem, Boss. We are Frostbringer, not a Golem made of Ice.]
Radiance heard what was in Tang Shaoyang’s mind and immediately protested. Of course, the protest created another conflict because Doru took offense at that. Radiance said it as if it was an insult to be seen the same as a Golem.
"I didn’t mistake you as a Golem, but your race is similar in a way to Ice Golem, no?"
Tang Shaoyang could tell that Radiance was about to protest further, but the stone statue spoke first.
"Visitor! You must provide us with a name and a reason! If you don’t comply with the order, we have no choice but to take you down!"
"My name is Tang Shaoyang, and I am here to take the trial of Thousand Halls!" Tang Shaoyang thought of fighting the stone statue. He wanted to test how strong the statue was to protect the city from the calamity.
The city above was intact, not a ruin as he expected. It meant the stone statue managed to repel the calamity that tried to get to the city.
[Or maybe the barrier is strong enough to repel the calamity. Who knows, these people might come up with a specialized barrier against the calamity.] Zara added.
"What about your race? I sense the foul monster’s presence in you. You are not one of them, are you?" The stone statue asked again.
"No, he is not those foul monsters, or else he could not enter the city. What are you?" The second stone statue finally spoke.
This was when Tang Shaoyang realized that the stone statue was more than just a golem that was created to execute a certain command. They had a consciousness as well and had their own thoughts.
"The System considered me a pioneer of my own race, and it’s called Tangu. I am a quarter high-human, a quarter demon, a quarter dragon, and a quarter calamity. Can I enter the city now?"
He took his time to explain to the stone statue. He did not mind telling them about his secret race since they would be staying here and maybe get recycled when this world was absorbed into the God Realm.
There was no more question because the second statue immediately made his move, thrusting the spear toward his chest. The movement was fast, but not fast enough to beat his Absolute Sense. He saw it coming, and he caught the stone spear with his hand.
The stone spear broke apart as the statue jumped backward, "Since you inherit those filthy monster’s blood, you can’t enter the city! We will not allow someone with filthy monster blood to enter the city."
The second statue snapped to the first statue, "What are you doing? Why didn’t you attack him? You should have had a chance to leave a hole in his head when he focused on me early!"
Tang Shaoyang looked at the shattered stone in his hand with a grin before turning toward the first statue. He expected an attack, but the first statue lowered the spear instead of attacking him.
"The barrier tells us otherwise, my friend. He would not be able to pass the barrier if the city didn’t want him. Our job is over, and return to your position!" The first statue walked back into the original position and became a statue again.
He was disappointed because he expected a fight, but then he glanced at the second statue. The second statue was already back on his spot with the broken spear as a difference. He checked out with Chaos Eyes and found out that the core was still glowing. Then he checked the first statue, and its core was also still glowing. That told him that the statue was still active.
Tang Shaoyang let out a chuckle and turned around. He was right about the statue having its own consciousness and thoughts. After seeing how easily he crushed the spear, the first statue chickened out. Because they were statues, they could not express what was in their mind, so they pretended not to care.
He shrugged and followed the paved road that went upward. His Chaos Eyes were active, and sure enough, once he was out of their sight, the two statues broke from their acting as they fell on their knees. The first statue pointed its finger at the second statue.
He could tell that they were arguing, but he could not hear what they said. Witnessing the action caused him to chuckle, a good laugh after all the annoyances with Arion and Clementine. He focused there just for a moment before returning to the city.
The city was intact and clean, but he could not find a single life in the city. It was quiet and depressing. It looked like the people disappeared instead of dying fighting the calamity or the Void.
"I am expecting a ruin, but the city is intact..." Tang Shaoyang muttered in a low voice, looking up at the barrier. The barrier might be the only thing that preserved the city. He made sure to check every corner of the city, exploring the city with the hope of finding something valuable. Since the city was intact, he expected to get some treasures from the Thousand Vows Pavilion, but he could not find anything valuable.
The biggest building, which was the main building for the Thousand Vows Pavilion that stood in the highest place in the city, also had nothing. It was as if the place had been ransacked, empty, or maybe the Thousand Vows Pavilion had left nothing. Those valuable items might disappear along with the people in the city.
[Or maybe the previous Executive Administrators have cleaned this place up. They fail to get the class, but as you can tell, it’s not that hard to enter the city. They might fail the trial, but it’s easy to enter and clear out the city.] Vandir commented.
Tang Shaoyang came out of the building disappointed, "I hoped maybe a God Rank Spear that I could use..."
He mentioned a spear because he remembered that one of the God of Martial Arts’ skills was Spear Technique. It would be good if he could get something like that for future use, adding a variation to his fighting style. He let out another sigh and looked up at the floating island.
"Can I buy a floating island from the smart base?" Tang Shaoyang did not know why, but the thought came out naturally when he saw the floating island above him. He thought it might be cool to have a floating island for himself, a private place for his family, and create a playground for his daughters.
[You know you can send a message and ask your wives, right?] Vandir sounded annoyed, [Go up there already and finish your business. I want to start hunting already!]
Tang Shaoyang let out a chuckle as Vandir rarely got upset. His wings opened up, and with a single flap, his figure disappeared and appeared above the floating island. He landed in front of the building, and the words engraved on the building told him that he had reached his destination.
[Thousand Halls]
The building looked small from below, but it was actually around fifty meters tall. The massive stone pillars that supported the building in the front gave off a mysterious vibe, and a pitch black entrance with no door or gate made the building creepy.
Tang Shaoyang agreed with Vandir to complete the trial as quickly as possible and be done with this world. He walked toward the building, and he was surprised that he could not see through the entrance, just a pitch black entrance. Even his Chaos Eyes could not see through it.
There were two possibilities for this peculiar case. It was usually a stronger barrier that negated his Chaos Eyes, or it was a portal. He had a feeling this might be the portal, and he entered the building with no hesitation.
The moment he entered the building, he lost his sight and all his senses. He panicked for a moment because at this moment he was vulnerable, a split second that happened during the teleportation, where he lost all his senses. But this time, the moment was longer than a teleportation, which was why he panicked.
[Calm down, Young’un. You are safe, no one can hurt you in this place.]
An old yet calming and gentle voice rang in Tang Shaoyang’s head. The voice was directly inside his head.
[Who are you?]
His voice did not come out, and he realized that he lost his voice, not just his senses.
[My name is Xu Guanyu, the last Grandmaster of the Thousand Vows Pavilion.]
