Chapter 2269: Starting the Experiment (2)

"It will be a little dangerous. Don’t get too close to me."

"Will it be dangerous even for me?" Tang Shaoyang was surprised by the warning. While his mastery of the Space was not as good as Zara’s, he should be able to avoid something that might harm him.

"Ah... Maybe not for you, but I was hoping you could protect me from that bird. I need full concentration to ensure I connect the portal to the right world."

"Consider it done, My Lady," Tang Shaoyang summoned the two phoenix spirits, Baccara and Xiyue.

Then he summoned Jet the Sky of Abyss. Jet was originally a Raven, but his influence shaped Jet’s evolution, which was why he turned into an Abyss Creature. Everything about him was black: his eyes, feathers, and talon were pure black. People would not be able to see him if he flew at night.

Then he added one more spirit, Malki the Inferno Blade Emperor. Malki, an Ant Emperor, having blade-like arms, mastered the Black Fire Elemental Power and mastered the art of the blade. He was not a bird, but he could fly.

"Remember, I want it alive, or you will have to spend the rest of the mission in the Spirit World, and you will be the fourth guard for the next mission."

The threat was genuine. If they killed the calamity creature, then they would stay inside the Spirit World for the remainder of the mission. That threat should be enough to make them hold back.

Jet had already disappeared, blending with the dark cloud. Xiyue, Baccara, and Zephyr flew up. They didn’t fly straight to the peak of the mountain where the Rank 11 Calamity was. They flew around the peak instead, seeming to assess their enemy, or maybe that was just an intimidation before the fight. Not that he could understand what was in the bird’s mind. This was the first time they showed this kind of behavior, and it happened when they fought another bird.

Zara was on the ground, already doing her work. He floated ten meters above her, his Chaos Eyes active, giving him a bird’s-eye view. If any land calamity approached Zara, he would find them first. With everything set, he looked up.

His vision overlapped with his bird’s-eye view vision. As of now, he had adjusted and no longer bothered by the overlapping view. It was normal to him now.

The fight hadn’t started, but the screech filled the sky. That came from the calamity creature, seemingly giving a warning to the five intruders. Malki didn’t share the same tradition. The Inferno Blade Emperor flew straight into the calamity.

That was when something happened. The Calamity Creature flapped its wing twice as the black aura spread out from the wing, swallowing the five spirits.

Tang Shaoyang tried to see through the black aura, but his vision was obstructed. That had the ability to block his Chaos Eyes. This was the first calamity to have such an ability.

"Or maybe that’s a domain."

It would make sense that he could not see through a domain. Most of them would bring their enemy to a separate space, but it was not rare to have a domain like this one. His own domain was considered the rare one, and this black aura might be in the uncommon one if he had to go based on rarity.

"Can I enter the domain?"

He was intrigued, but his rationality stopped him from jumping into the massive sphere of dark aura. Especially when he started to sense energy stirred from below.

The space in front of Zara folded, spun under her precise control. Darkness then took over the space as she infused her energy into it. Her energy thickened and started to swirl into a vortex, slow and steady.

Tang Shaoyang knew the portal was done, and now she needed to connect to Arnain. This was the most important step. The portal without a connection would be automatically connected to Void Realm.

This was the step where she needed to focus, a step where she needed his protection. Her aura flared up, her energy spread out as her focus was on the portal. It was no longer under her control, and it attracted the Calamity.

Sure enough, a few seconds after Zara became engrossed in looking for Arnain’s coordinates, the Calamity Creatures started to notice her aura and came toward them.

Tang Shaoyang found a pack of black-furred foxes with six legs and three eyes. Zephyr reported about this fox, and she assumed the fox was under Rank 7 Calamity, but the threat level was around Rank 8 or even Rank 9 since they were moving in a pack.

The first thing he did was to create a barrier, a massive barrier in the shape of a dome with him inside as well. Not just one layer, but ten layers of barrier.

Then Tang Shaoyang summoned the remaining Skelly Family and the Skeleton Army. There were a few hundred of these calamity foxes. That was why he preferred to summon the Skeleton Army. They were easier to control because he wanted the fox to be captured.

"I want you to capture them, Skelly1. I don’t mind if they are half-dead. Kept them alive for the time being. I want to know if they are worth it to be converted into Demonic Calamity."

Skelly1 was not the head of the Skelly Family, but he was the equivalent of the Supreme Commander of the Tang Empire. He was in charge of the Skeleton Army, which was further divided into divisions that were led by his younger brothers and sisters.

"If they are not strong enough, you can take their bones as usual."

"Yes, Your Majesty!"

Skelly1 turned around, but he didn’t leave the army. He sent his three siblings, who led the Guardian Division, Mage Division, and Frostbond Division. The army of four-meter-tall skeletons with massive shields advanced forward as the robed skeleton with a bone staff prepared their spell. The Frostbond Division consisted of an Ice Elemental Skeleton.

Skelly1 didn’t stop there as he ordered his sibling, Skelly8, to lead the Intelligence Division, which comprised an assassin skeleton to move around the group of fox calamity. The order was most likely to cut the escape.

It was satisfying to watch how organized the Skeleton Army was. Something Tang Shaoyang was proud of, one of his best creations to date. The Spirits were stronger individually, but they lacked the teamwork of the Skeleton Army.

A few thousand Ice Elementalist Skeletons launched their spell, freezing the fox. Then the Guardian Division took U-formation, surrounding the freezing fox calamity.

Tang Shaoyang waited for the next move. He thought the mage would take action to cripple the immobilized fox calamities, but they did nothing. Skelly1 returned to his side, "We have captured them, Your Majesty."
