Chapter 2270: Sox
Chapter 2270: Sox
"Ah... right..."
Tang Shaoyang chuckled, wondering by himself what he was waiting for when his order was to capture them. The Frostbond Division kept the fox calamity frozen.
He glanced at Zara, who was still working on the portal. It seemed she still needed more time to establish the connection. The barrier should keep her safe, and the Skelly Family was here, too.
Then he looked at the mass of dark aura at the peak of the mountain, beyond the dark cloud. The battle would not end soon.
Tang Shaoyang decided to run an initial experiment. He wanted to know if he could turn the fox calamity like Ophelius and Ophelia. Ophelia and Ophelius regained their emotions and intelligence, but he hadn’t tried to determine whether they were special cases or not.
He used Calamitification on Castor, one of Team Red’s members. Castor kept his memory, intelligence, and emotion. But it was Calamitification, turning a human into a calamity. The process was different, so it was still unknown whether Ophelius and Ophelia were a special case or not. He would find out soon enough with these foxes.
He flew over, passing the front pack of the fox calamity, going at the backline, where he felt the strongest aura. Since they moved in a pack, that meant there was a pack leader, and he was looking for the pack leader.
Tang Shaoyang quickly found the pack leader, an unassuming fox calamity. It was small compared to the others. The distinct difference was the single horn on its forehead.
If the fox didn’t have six legs or three eyes, it would be just a normal-looking fox. This might be one of the cute calamities. The reason was its tail. Its tail looked like a bunny tail, short, fluffy, and round.
The normal fox calamity was around four meters long, and their height was around its chest. But the pack leader was two and a half meters long, and its height reached his waist.
If he had to estimate the pack leader based on its aura. It was Rank 8 Calamity, not Rank 7 Calamity. The rest of the pack was varied, consisting of Rank 6 and Rank 7.
"I don’t really plan to turn Rank 8 Calamity and below, but it’s worth trying since they are a pack."
Since they were a pack, they could act like soldiers with discipline. Something more important in a war than an individual calamity that ran amok on the battlefield with no control.
Tang Shaoyang directed his right hand toward the freezing pack leader and activated his skill. The skill required his Chaos Energy, but it made him wonder if he could use the energy in Dantian to activate the skill. Would it bring a different result? His curiosity piqued, especially the energy in his Dantian was unique because of the dragon’s presence there.
He put that aside for now and focused on the change that transpired before him. The Chaos Energy sipped into the fox calamity’s body. The first change was the size as it grew bigger, reaching his shoulder before it stopped growing.
The horn grew bigger and longer, and then two more horns grew below the original horn, each smaller. The second horn was half of the original horn, and the third horn was half of the second horn. The fur started to change, as well as gray shades in dots started to appear on the body, all over the body, while the head remained black.
The change in the fur turned the fox into a cheetah. But the dots were grey instead of black, and its fur was black. The eyes...
Tang Shaoyang noticed that the eyes also increased. The eyes became smaller, and the number increased by three. It had six eyes now, three each on both sides. That just made the fox creepier.
Another change happened on the heel of its six legs; a ten-centimeter sharp blade grew on its heel. The blade was black, glinting in sharpness. If not for a careful inspection, he might miss it. It was hidden in the dark fur.
Then the claw also grew longer and bigger as its body grew. The claw became sharp just like the blade. Then the next obvious change was the tail. It had seven fluffy, round tails now. It looked funny until you looked at the legs and face.
"What did I do?" The question came out naturally. He just made a horror creature out of the Calamity Creature.
As if hearing his question, the pack leader broke from the ice, easily. The Frostbond Division was about to increase its intensity, but Tang Shaoyang stopped them.
"It’s fine. Let it free."
The Calamitification finished, and now onto the next step. Could he communicate with the creature? Would it listen to his order? Or would it go feral and attack him? He waited to see what the fox would do.
It looked around, seemingly weirded out by the situation. It was confused, looking down on its legs, then it looked around, adjusting to its new eyes. It no longer exuded bloodthirstiness, which was a good sign if Tang Shaoyang wanted to control it.
Then its head turned around, checking on its body and tail. The fox glanced at Tang Shaoyang for a moment, but that was it. It didn’t reveal any hostility, merely curiosity in the change on its body.
The fox raised its front leg, moving it around. Then it started to walk, walking around the frozen foxes. It was not concerned about the frozen fox as it tried to get used to the new body. It walked close to the encirclement of the Guardian Skeleton, observing the skeleton for a moment before continuing the stroll.
The Demonic Calamity walked around at the edge of encirclement. Then it returned to Tang Shaoyang’s side. This time, it looked up toward Tang Shaoyang.
"Thank you for giving me a second chance, Master."
It spoke clearly, and it regarded Tang Shaoyang as a master. Then it knelt down, having the snout touching the black snow on the ground.
"Your words are my order. Your goal is my fate. My life is yours!"
That caught Tang Shaoyang off guard, not expecting such deep words from a Demonic Calamity that just regained its sanity, emotion, and intelligence.
"This is a big success..."
Tang Shaoyang remembered something and opened the leaderboard, the Absolute Ranking Leaderboard, where the system determined an individual’s strength based on level and rank.
He found three question marks at number eight, right below Lunea. The System already included the Demonic Calamity as part of the Tang Empire for it to appear in the leaderboard.
"It seems we need a name for you... What should I call you?"
"I am grateful for your consideration, Master."
Tang Shaoyang squinted his eyes. He had Pride, Wrath, Greed, and Gluttony. There are three remaining spots for his seven deadly sins. But nothing left fit the Fox Demonic Calamity. Envy, Lust, and Sloth remained. Envy might be the best fit, but then he realized that they would be different than his actual companion.
It might be cruel, but the Demonic Calamity was just a tool for his war. He could not include this one in his seven deadly sins.
"Sox! From now on, your name is Sox!"
