Chapter 847: Beginning of the Storm
Chapter 847: Beginning of the Storm
A heavy silence had settled in the luxurious room.
The door closed quietly, and the last trace of the tower’s leader’s presence faded away.
For a few seconds, neither of them said anything.
Sunlight streamed through the tall windows, falling on the expensive carpets and walls covered in magical arrays.
Serys was still standing in the same spot, her gaze fixed on the door through which the tower’s leader had exited.
As if she still couldn’t believe the conversation from moments ago had been real.
Finally, she let out a long sigh, then slowly sat on one of the chairs.
“What’s your plan, really?”
Daniel, standing by the window, didn’t take his gaze off the distant towers.
“For what?”
Serys frowned.
“For Lioran. How are you going to make people not dare to support him?” Now that she thought about it, she still couldn’t believe such a thing was possible.
Perhaps it could be done over a few years… but only two weeks? That’s way too little time! Way, way too little!
A few seconds of silence passed, but contrary to her expectation, Daniel didn’t answer.
Instead, he asked another question.
“When was the last time you spoke with him?”
Serys blinked.
“What?”
“The last time you personally spoke with Lioran.”
Surprise was clearly visible on her face. She had expected any question: plans, schemes, the Supreme Council, Lioran’s supporters, anything but this.
She thought for a moment.
“About three months ago. Before I became completely isolated.”
Daniel nodded.
“I see.”
“That’s it?” Serys frowned more.
“That’s it.”
“And what does that have to do with your plan?”
Daniel finally turned around. A faint smile appeared on his face.
“Nothing yet.”
This answer almost made a vein pop on Serys’s forehead, but before she could say anything, Daniel continued.
“The tower’s leader didn’t tell the whole truth. I could see fatigue in his eyes regarding Lioran’s situation. As if there’s something beyond him. It’s not just about the elders’ support and Lioran’s popularity… There’s a reason above all that he’s become the heir.”
“Huh? You think so? But what reason could be above all of that?”
Daniel remained silent and said nothing. He wasn’t sure either; he just felt there must be some important reason. A reason so powerful that even the tower’s leader was powerless against it.
“Today I just want to see the tower and Lioran.” And then he said quietly.
Serys stared for a few moments.
“Just watch him?”
“For now.”
“Are you joking?”
“No.”
Daniel calmly passed by her.
“I don’t make decisions until I know my opponent. And I don’t make plans until I decide.”
Serys looked at him for a few seconds, then sighed. He wasn’t in a hurry; she was just worried that this man might do something dangerous that would make her situation even worse than before.
Her current isolation wasn’t her only misfortune. The problem was that there were people in the tower who wanted to expel her, and she didn’t want more of those people.
A while later, they left the room.
The Central Magic Tower was more bustling than ever. The news of what had happened at the tablet had spread like wildfire across the island.
But Daniel’s full identity hadn’t been made public yet. Most people only knew that an unknown person had succeeded in receiving the tablet’s complete legacy.
That was all.
And that was enough to put the tower in a semi-excited state.
Serys silently guided him through the various streets. Daniel observed his surroundings without hurry.
But he soon noticed something interesting. Wherever they went… traces of Lioran could be seen.
First, in the central library. A massive building with dozens of floors housing millions of magical books.
“This section used to be semi-abandoned. Lioran provided the renovation budget.” Serys explained reluctantly.
Then they entered one of the educational academies, where hundreds of students were training. On one of the walls, a new educational charter had been installed.
At the bottom, Lioran’s name could be seen.
“The new educational program was his work.”
A little later, they passed by the research center. Multiple projects, new laboratories, financial support, scholarships.
Lioran’s name was everywhere.
As time passed, Daniel grew more silent, and that made Serys more worried.
She could see a frown on this man’s face. Was even he surprised by the terrifying level of Lioran’s influence and popularity?
Serys herself was truly speechless at the extent of that bastard’s influence. His popularity was so great that if they wanted to rename the tower “Lioran’s Central Tower,” no one would say no.
Finally, she broke the silence herself.
“Well?”
Daniel looked away from the building opposite.
“What?”
“What do you think?”
A few seconds of silence passed.
“Now I understand why everyone supports him.” Then Daniel answered.
Serys said nothing, but she didn’t like this answer, because it was true.
That was exactly what had disappointed her. If Lioran were just a corrupt politician or a foolish ambitious person, defeating him would have been easy.
But he had truly worked for the tower, was truly popular, had truly earned people’s respect.
And that made everything harder.
“What were you doing all this time? Were you sleeping? How did he manage to become so popular despite you? Couldn’t you do something?”
“You think I didn’t try? I told you… it’s useless. No matter what good I do, he somehow makes it look bad, and everyone believes him.” Serys sighed.
Daniel fell silent. In this situation, the only way was to find evidence showing that all those suicides in the tower were actually committed by Lioran.
Especially the suicide of the tower leader’s daughter. That was the best way to destroy Lioran.
Half an hour later, they reached one of the tower’s largest educational halls.
A large crowd was present. Hundreds of students sat on various platforms. Some professors could also be seen around.
At the center of the hall stood a man.
A calm face, simple but formal attire, and a gaze that conveyed confidence without the slightest hint of arrogance.
Naturally, it was Lioran.
For the second time, Daniel saw him up close. At that moment, Lioran was teaching.
One of the students asked a question. Lioran listened patiently, then began to explain.
Not from a position of superiority, not like an arrogant professor, but like someone who genuinely wanted the other person to learn.
Sometimes the students laughed, sometimes they joked. And he responded with a smile.
The atmosphere was strange. Very strange, because it bore no resemblance to the image of a classic enemy.
Daniel stood motionless for almost half an hour, just watching.
Behavior, tone, body language, reactions, glances. He observed everything, and finally, a conclusion formed in his mind.
And that conclusion was not at all what Serys would have liked.
“Interesting.”
Serys immediately turned around.
“What?”
“He’s much better than I imagined.”
“…”
“And that makes it harder.”
At that moment, one of the senior professors went to Lioran, whispered something in his ear. Lioran paused for a moment.
Then his gaze slowly moved through the crowd until it reached outside the hall and stopped on Daniel.
There was a great distance between them, but their gazes locked for a few seconds.
Not hostility, not enmity, not threat. Both sides were just evaluating each other.
Two people both smart enough to understand that the other was not ordinary.
A very small smile appeared on Lioran’s lips, then from that distance, he nodded his head in greeting.
Daniel looked at him for a few seconds.
“It’s time.” Then he whispered quietly.
Serys suddenly felt her heart sink.
Before she could ask anything, Daniel began to move.
Straight toward the center of the hall, toward Lioran. The crowd unconsciously parted because of his powerful presence.
Serys could only watch with wide eyes. A strange feeling overcame her, a feeling like someone standing on the brink of a disaster.
Or perhaps the beginning of a storm.
Daniel reached Lioran without stopping. Lioran looked at him with curiosity, and for a few moments, neither of them said anything.
“I heard you have an interesting class.” Then Daniel smiled faintly.
Lioran raised an eyebrow.
Daniel pointed to one of the empty seats.
“I’m a rookie mage too. Can I sit here?”
At that moment, a bad feeling formed in Serys’s heart, a feeling that grew stronger by the second.
Because for some reason… she was sure something very bad was about to happen.
