After Qi Taiguo became the deputy battalion commander for the first time, his mission could be considered quite successful. Although there were two or three injuries, at least no hostages were killed.

As for the injury Chiang Qing suffered, him being blamed was inevitable.

Upon learning that Chiang Qing got stabbed accidentally in the hand, Jiang Conghe was the first to call and criticize Qi Taiguo for improper command and said he should be punished.

Qi Taiguo just listened without responding; everyone knows that no one can guarantee no casualties during a mission, not even Jiang Conghe himself.

So this stemmed from personal resentment.

And seeing Qi Taiguo’s indifferent attitude irritated Jiang Conghe even more. For days, he and Lu Shufen had been having disputes and weren’t getting anywhere with the Loo Family, which only added to his frustration. Qi Taiguo’s attitude made his words even harsher.

Back when Jiang Conghe was around, Qi Taiguo wasn’t afraid of him then; now that he’s just on the other end of the phone, he’s even less afraid, treating his words as nonsense. Enraged, Jiang Conghe hung up after leaving a few harsh remarks.

Qi Taiguo stared at the phone for a long time, snorted, picked up the report on the table, and went to report to his superiors.

When Chiang Qing woke up, all she saw was a blinding white, and a sharp pain in her hand.

Looking over, her hand, which had been stabbed, was wrapped in bandages and hurt tremendously with the slightest movement.

"Xiao Qing, you’re awake!"

A kind and gentle voice came from her left side. She turned her head to see Secretary Gao and struggled to sit up.

Secretary Gao quickly helped her up, placing a pillow behind her.

"Thank you, Secretary!"

"Thank you? It should be me thanking you. If it weren’t for you taking my place as the hostage, it would probably be me lying here with my old bones, not knowing if I’d even be able to open my eyes!" Secretary Gao sighed, "Xiao Qing, thank you, you saved me."

Chiang Qing bowed her head modestly and said, "Secretary, you speak too highly. It was my duty. Officially, you are my immediate superior. Personally, you are a close friend of my grandfather, which makes you an elder to me! Your situation was so dire at the time; how could I let you be taken away?"

Seeing her pale face, Secretary Gao’s eyes flashed with a hint of pity. He patted her hand and said, "Anyway, I’ll remember your kindness in my heart!"

Chiang Qing smiled slightly.

"By the way, now that you’re awake, we’ll head back to the Capital tomorrow. The medical resources there are better than here. Make sure to have your hand examined thoroughly, maybe even get an X-ray. Such beautiful hands shouldn’t be ruined, especially since I heard you can play the piano!" Secretary Gao looked at her hands.

Chiang Qing frowned slightly. She didn’t want to go back yet.

Secretary Gao noticed and asked, "What’s wrong? You don’t want to go back? Xiao Qing, be reasonable. This place is not conducive to your recovery, nor is it safe. Let’s go back tomorrow!"

After last night’s incident, Secretary Gao was truly scared out of his wits. He only had two years before retirement, and he needed to stay well until then!

"It’s not that I don’t want to go back; I just feel dizzy and want to rest for a few more days." Chiang Qing rubbed her forehead with her fingers and said, "Secretary, you all can go back tomorrow; I can return in a few days."

Upon hearing this, Secretary Gao frowned, wondering if this girl might still be thinking about that person.

"Xiao Qing, don’t be willful. Your grandfather and father are very worried, and your mother is even thinking of coming to see you."

Chiang Qing replied, "But I really feel very dizzy."

Seeing her pale face and the blood she lost from her hand, Secretary Gao agreed that dizziness was inevitable and said, "Then take a few more days to recover."

Only then did Chiang Qing smile, knowing that staying would give her a chance to see that person.
