Chapter 1508: Chapter 1509: Grandpa and Maternal Grandfather Arrive
Cheng Su and her family had a new addition, and they’ve already handed out red eggs back home, so they can’t be left out here either. Mother Cheng discussed with her daughter and bought a basket of eggs to dye red. They sent them to familiar families, and the rest, Qi Taiguo took to the troops to share in the joy.
The day after returning home, Father Cheng and Father Qi came with chickens, bustling and lively. Since Mother Qi had difficulty with her legs, it was Father Qi and Qi Jianguo who came, along with Cheng Zhi from the maternal side.
Two large cages of chickens, totaling twenty-five, were clucking away. Thankfully, these days people aren’t too particular, otherwise, would the cars have let them on?
Even so, Cheng Su felt a bit overwhelmed. The weather was hot, and she, being postpartum, needed heavy supplements. Mother Cheng made her nourishing carp soup and chicken soup with layers of oil, which she drank until she felt sick.
Now her in-laws and maternal family sent so many chickens, how could she finish them all?
"Just ten or twenty would have been enough. Dad, you brought so many, but there’s not much room for raising them, and I can’t eat them all by myself!" Cheng Su said.
"A chicken a day is necessary, there’s enough. Eat more, life’s better now, and the family can afford it." Father Qi laughed.
Mother Cheng then brought out the sleeping Xiao Qi, saying, "Come take a look, your eldest grandson."
Father Qi had been eagerly waiting. Seeing Mother Cheng bring the child out, he didn’t know where to place his hands and feet, saying, "After the dusty journey, I’ll wash my hands first."
Without waiting for a response, he went to the bathroom to wash his hands and face.
Mother Cheng handed the child over, and Father Qi’s face lit up as he held him.
"Good, good. Looks more like the daughter-in-law. The brows and nose resemble his father, that wide forehead is a good sign." Father Qi sat down, holding his grandson tightly, never getting enough of him.
After a while, reluctantly, he gave the child to Father Cheng: "Let grandpa hold him for a while too!"
Father Cheng had already washed his hands and face. With the help of his wife, he held his grandson, satisfaction written all over his face.
His daughter and son-in-law were loving, they didn’t worry about food or drink, and now a son had arrived; there was no need for concerns anymore.
"Dad, how are mother’s legs?" Cheng Su asked Father Qi.
"Getting better day by day. She’s eager to come, but I told her with those legs, not only can she not help with the child, she’d be a burden, so she was convinced to stay!" Father Qi said with a smile.
"What’s the big deal? After the confinement, bring the child back to see her!" Mother Cheng joked.
Cheng Su thought for a moment and said, "I’ll take a camera later and snap a few photos of the child. Dad, you can take them back for mother to see as well."
Buying a camera was expensive, but recording the child’s growth was worth it. Taking some photos now, printing them, and bringing them back could relieve mother’s longing for her grandson.
Father Qi was pleased to hear of this solution: "That’s good, saves her fretting every day!"
Cheng Su smiled.
Father Cheng asked if the child had been named yet.
Cheng Su replied, "His full name is Qi Fang, and because he was born on the Double Seven Festival, and ’Qi’ sounds like our surname, we call him Xiao Qi. Dad, what do you think?" This question was directed at Father Qi. In rural areas, families sometimes have naming conventions; she was worried Father Qi might have opinions.
Father Qi thought for a moment, finding it easy to pronounce, and said, "Sure, sounds nice. You and Taiguo have decided, so it’s fine!"
Cheng Su and Mother Cheng both sighed in relief; Mother Cheng was worried that her in-law might have objections, but since he didn’t, everything was good.
