Qi Taiguo lingered in Ning Gang’s study for a long time. No one knew what they talked about, but Ning Ge could tell it must have been something important, because Qi Taiguo’s expression appeared even more resolute.

Ning Ge wasn’t the least bit curious about their conversation; everyone has their place and the things they’re supposed to do. Since his elder brother didn’t let him into the study to listen, it wasn’t something he needed to hear, so there was no need for him to ask.

If he needed to know, his elder brother would tell him how to proceed.

It was already eleven at night. Following this, Qi Taiguo would be training at the base for a week, where communication was inconvenient. He was concerned about Cheng Su, so he borrowed the old man’s study to call her.

Cheng Su was still lost in her thoughts. She was quite surprised to receive his call and even more surprised to hear that he was training in the Capital for the week and was currently at the Ning Family’s home.

“Yaozu also came. He talked to Ning Ge about what you asked…” Qi Taiguo repeated what Ning Ge had said.

Cheng Su cursed, “Cheng Yaozu, that big mouth!”

“They are concerned about you too!” Qi Taiguo said. “That person’s identity is so sensitive, and they fear you might get into trouble!”

Cheng Su curled up, her chin resting on her knees, and said, “Qi Taiguo, I’m scared!”

“Hmm?”

“Regardless of his identity, I’m afraid of having any connection with him. If he is a relative or my father, maybe that would be easier. But if he’s an enemy who killed a loved one, then…” Cheng Su’s voice trembled. “I’m scared of what the truth is, I’m afraid.”

“So do you still want to keep investigating?” Qi Taiguo asked gently.

Cheng Su didn’t speak and was silent for a long time.

Knowing full well that sticking to the end might not yield the desired results, knowing that defeat is possible, but still wanting to do it, to start — that is bravery.

And sometimes, even though you might lose, there are also chances to win.

Cheng Su asked, “Am I brave?”

“Yes.” Qi Taiguo affirmed. “You’ve always been very brave.”

Only then did Cheng Su smile.

“However, they suspect your persistence a bit, thinking you’re hiding a secret. So, should you tell them…” Qi Taiguo explained Ning Ge and others’ suspicions.

Cheng Su was startled and only after a long while did she say, “Do you think I should say something? Sometimes when you say something, doesn’t it change the course of history? This is not something I should interfere with!”

Qi Taiguo said, “You decide for yourself.”

Seeing that time was running out, he hurriedly said a few more words, then hung up and left.

“After the training is over, are you going straight back to Zhu City?” Ning Ge asked as he drove Qi Taiguo back to the training base.

Qi Taiguo said, “Yes, there’s another mission as well.”

Ning Ge responded with an “Oh.”

After seeing him off at the base, before Qi Taiguo got out of the car, he looked at Ning Ge and said, “The two of us are genuinely forming friendships with you. Ning Ge watched him enter the gate, then drove away.
